Hassan Fathy is one of the most important architects of the twentieth century, whose works have had a widespread influence on the architecture of the Islamic world and whose ideas have extended to the Western world. Sie entschließt sich, das Kind auszutragen und liebevoll ins Leben zu begleiten. Ihr Mann verlässt sie deshalb, aber ihr Arzt, der sie ursprünglich zur Abtreibung überreden wollte und der ethisch bedenkliche Forschung betreibt, widmet sich ihr und dem behinderten Kind. Er verliebt sich in die Frau, steigt aus der Forschung aus und will nun von an "alles richtig machen" und sich vor allem um die Förderung behinderter Kinder kümmern. Dazu geht er sogar in eine Camphill-Community in Irland, wo behinderte Menschen in betreuter Gemeinschaft leben. Seine pädagogische Überfürsorge scheitert an der Realität und seine Liebe findet ein schreckliches Ende, weil die geliebte Frau und ihr Kind vom biologischen Vater aus Groll und Eifersucht ermordet werden.
