In tempo per l’anno di Darwin, il 2009, il giornale tedesco «Die Zeit» pubblicò il 31 dicembre un articolo a due pagine con il titolo «Grazie, Darwin!». In seguito, altre quattro pagine intere erano dedicate al tema dell’evoluzione. Qui si ringrazia un uomo che nacque 200 anni fa e divenne famoso con il suo libro rivoluzionario «L’origine delle specie» che fu pubblicato 150 anni fa.Già il filosofo Immanuel Kant (1724 – 1804) affermò con orgoglio: «Datemi la materia, io voglio crearne il mondo.» Anche il matematico e astronomo francese Laplace (1749 – 1827), 50 anni più tardi, asserì trionfalmente di fronte a Napoleone: «Le mie teorie non hanno bisogno dell’ipotesi ‘Dio’!».Tali personaggi ed altri padri dell’ateismo scientifico, cercavano una spiegazione per l’origine della vita escludendo Dio. La risposta apparentemente mancante la diede Darwin perché aprì le menti alla possibilità che l’origine della vita potesse essere spiegata in «modo naturale». Mentre lui stesso considerò la conseguenza di quest’affermazione in modo ancora titubante, il mondo d’oggi, che diventa sempre più ateista, acclama a non finire il suo patrono celebrandolo con un sacco di pubblicazioni....
