The Street
Where We Once Lived
After loss, there is not much to say
There is little one can do
I stare at the street I once knew
And daydream of times before my world went askew
It has crippled so many, once lively and thriving
Now we climb over rubble and troubled remains
Of our lives, broken, splintered, torn apart
Tears have taken hold of our hopes
Life’s intrepid force pushed and pulled
Peeled back the skin from our bones
Leaving us wounded and frail
Battered and beaten all that rests are the pieces
Of our lives, tossed, drown, limply still
How grave and how deep we must dig
To find the street where we once lived
