This is a good story that has the potential to be great. First thing it needs is an ending, but that’s just a technicality. I liked the title right away, but I never came across an explanation for it; maybe that’s in the next part of the book. I think the cover is captivating. It is simple and elegant. This is a good story that has the potential to be great. First thing it needs is an ending, but that’s just a technicality. I liked the title right away, but I never came across an explanation for it; maybe that’s in the next part of the book. I think the cover is captivating. It is simple and elegant. I even like that the words are in a language that I can’t read. I think it forces, or pulls, people into the book to learn more. The blurb was also good and enticing.
Second thing the story needs is a reference check. The story is supposed to take place in New York, but some of the wording and scenarios don’t fit. I know New York can be rough, but I’m not familiar with schools having police officers hand cuff students simply to escort them to the office. I admit this is not an area of expertise for me, so this may be a misunderstand on my part. At one point in the story, the boy refers to how the girl has treated him all [school] year, though they’ve only been in for about a week.
Third thing the story needs is continuity. The flow of the story is very fast, I think it could slow down a bit. Some of the word use is questionable and while I’m not a fan of strong language, I appreciate it in a story where it appears naturally and seems to add to the story. The little bit of strong language there was, seemed to be forced. In addition, some of the terminology used seemed out of place. A girl in high school isn’t usually referred to as ma’am.
Last thing the story needs is some editing for grammar and punctuation, but whose story doesn’t need that? All in all, this was a good story and easy to read even with its shortcomings. Paper Plane is well worth a read.
