I walked up to the big metal doors that sealed the high school off from the rest of the city of New York. It's been a whole summer since I've been here. It's also my last year. I'm finally a senior! I won't have to worry about my parents once this year is over! I sighed a breath of relief and swung open the big metal doors, letting myself in. Also hitting someone in the face. It was a girl. Shit.
"Sorry, I didn't see you there!" I tried to apologize. The girl was covering her face with her hands, ignoring the books that fell to the floor.
The girl started, "You..." I was confused. What's wrong with her? Oh please don't tell me I hit a mentally challenged girl in the face with a metal door. Suddenly something hard hit me in the face. I opened my eyes to see the girl with her fist outstretched glaring at me.
"YOU IDIOT!!!" she screamed and hit my head off the wall. And that's how I ended up in the principal's office first thing in the morning on the first day of school.
"So please explain what happened here today ma'am." the principal demanded, looking at the girl in the face.
She looked back at him. "He hit me in the face with a metal door, I beat the shit out of him. Simple as that." she explained.
"Hmm...okay. Well you are going to have to be kicked out for a week for this. And I'm sorry Mr. Quinn but you as well. All students involved with a breaking of the rules must be administered the same and equal punishment. School Policy. It's such a shame too, because you are one of our school's top students." the principal said.
I shrugged. "Whatever, I'll be back next week." I mumbled.
"Okay, you can go home now then." the principal dismissed. The girl and I got up at the same time and walked out of the office. She stopped as we got out of the office, looked at me, and rolled her eyes. I didn't get it. What the fuck was wrong with her? Did she naturally hate people. Hell, I don't even care. I had explaining to do anyways...
"What do you mean you got kicked out?" my mother shouted over the phone. I winced.
"Mom, a girl punched me and I got kicked out for a week. No big deal." I soothed.
"No big deal? You'll be alone at the house all week! Your father's in Las Vegas and I'm at work all day everyday! I don't know what to do! Your father is going to have a fit!" she worried.
"I'll be fine mom, I'm seventeen. I think I can take care of myself. And what do you mean ' Your father is going to have a fit'?" I asked, starting to become angry as I sat down on the couch.
"You got beat up by a girl! He's going to be so dissapointed! The least you can do is hide his alcohol for me, okay?" she complained.
I sighed, "Sure, whatever mom. I better go so you can get back to work."
"Okay honey. Don't get into a mess. Make sure to hide it somewhere good too."
"Okay mom, bye."
"I love you honey -"
I hung up on her. She was really getting on my nerves today. Bored, I looked out the window and noticed a black car in the driveway across the street. That house was supposed to be for sale. I guess someone bought it. Wait...no it couldn't be-
My thoughts were cut off as I watched the door open and the girl from this morning bring out a bag of trash and put it in a trash can. She looked up and saw me staring at her.
*Girl's P.O.V.*
I looked up after putting the trash in the trashcan and saw the idiot from this morning staring at me in the window of the house across the street. Wow, now he's a stalker and an idiot. Great. I flipped him off and walked back into my house, slamming the door shut.
*Quinn's P.O.V.*
She flipped me off! I mean seriously, only dudes do that! What does she want to do me? I should have opened the door and yelled 'You would!'. That probably wouldn't help matters much though. She'd probably come over here and beat the shit out of me again anyways. I better go hide the alcohol, so I grabbed a trash bag and shoved all of the bottles in there. I headed to the garage and grabbed a shovel and went in the back yard to bury the bag.
I dug the hole and shoved the bag in and started to re-cover it when I heard an annoying voice.
"Son, what are you dooooing?" Mrs. Dong asked, exaggerating the 'o' in doing.
"Burying a bag. Why?" I answered, trying to ignore my nosy Korean neighbor who was sticking her face with the big bug-like eyes over the top of the white post fence that seperated our yards.
"Where's your broooother?" she asked, her eyes searching my face suspiciously.
"I told you, Mrs. Dong, he's at college." I sighed, patting the last bit of dirt on the pile.
"Sure....." she stared at me and slowly sank below the fence.
I raised an eyebrow and went back in the house.
One week later, here I was, yet again walking up to those big metal doors. Let me fill you in on what had happened between the time that girl flipped me off. My dad came home from Las Vegas and cussed me off when he couldn't find his alcohol. My mother was arrested (again) for drug charges and my dad left to go to some Asian country for a meeting so therefore, I am alone at me house again! (YES!!)
I swung open the metal door carefully this time, making sure I wasn't hitting anyone in the face. I sighed, knowing that I would have to face the demon girl again. I tromped into first period and low and behold the girl is here. Great. Mrs. Denmark, the math teacher gave me and her a seating arrangement first thing and you'll never guess who she set behind me! Evil. And in front of me... oh great, my ex-girlfriend Katie. Katie turned around smiled at me sweetly. I missed that smile...
"Hey Quinn. Welcome back!" she laughed cutely. I smiled back, wishing I hadn't dumped her.
"Thanks Katie!" I smiled. Her face turned into a frown.
"Hey...will you sit by me at lunch? I have to talk to you about something." she asked, quietly.
"Sure! Of course!" I agreed. She smiled, thanked me and turned back around. Bonk! Something like metal hit the back of my head. I turned around to look at the girl. She had her black (probably steel-toed) boots up on the desk.
"Why did you just kick me?" I asked, angrily. She opened her eyes and looked at me, snapping her gum noisily.
" I didn't kick you, your head was just in the way." she answered smoothly. I opened my mouth to tell her off when I was cut off.
"Quinn! Adriana! Do you care you tell us what is so interesting back there?" Mrs. Denmark asked sharply.
"No, Mrs. Denmark." I mumbled, turning back around. So Adriana was her name. It's kind of pretty. Not the kind of name you'd expect out of a devil like her.
"My name is Adrie, not Adriana, you old hag!" she shouted. The classroom went silent as Mrs. Denmark's face turned bright red from a mixture of embarrasment and anger.
"What? What did you call me?" she asked/shouted, eyes narrowing.
"What are you deaf. You're old enough to be getting there. I said my name is Adrie, not Adriana, you old hag!" she yelled, standing up.
"Leave this room now!" Mrs Denmark yelled at Adrie.
"No. I don't want to!" Adrie sniffed, defiantly.
"Okay then."
Mrs. Denmark went over to the phone and called the office.
"Yes, this is Mrs. Denmark. Can you please send down the enforcement officer?"
A minute later a police officer came into the room.
"That girl standing up will refuse to go to the office and was using inapropriate language."
"Okay."
The officer tries to grab her arm but she moves quickly, causing him to stumble.
"Come here, you..."
He pulls out handcuffs and jumps at her but ends up on the floor, with Adrie standing beside his head, holding the handcuffs. She throws them out a window as the officer gets back up.
"Ate one too many doughnuts, fat ass?" she asked, smiling.
He got out his tazer and smiled. Gasps come from people around the room.
"I win!" he smiles.
He turns it on and jumps at her. She smiles, and jumps out of the way, grabbing his arm. She takes his arm and twists it around up behind his back, causing pain. WIth her other hand she grabs the taser and pins him to the ground.
"Nope, I win." she laughs.
"Uh...let me go kid...please!" he cries. She lets go of him and he stands up. "I don't think there's been a problem here, right Mrs. Denmark.?" he asks her, staring at her pleadingly.
"Uhh no..." a bewildered Mrs. Denmark answers.
"And you, class?" he asks us. We all shake our heads no.
"Good..." he stumbles out of the room and into the hallway. Adrie casually sits down as if nothing happened. People stare.
" You can do whatever...I'm just going to go to the nurse's office..." Mrs. Denmark muttered.
I looked around the cafeteria , carrying my tray carefully. There,Katie was at the table in the back. That used to always be our meeting spot when we were dating. I really regret breaking up with her. I went and sat down beside her, my tray clacking off the wooden table.
"Hey, Quinn." she smiled.
"Hey, Katie. What'd you want to talk to me about?" I asked, poking a slice of cold pizza with my fork.
"Well...I wanted to know if you wanted to go out with me again." she asked, shyly. I stared at her like I'd been slapped. This was completely out of nowhere! I didn't even think she liked me anymore. She looked up and saw my face.
"Oh... I see. I get it if you don't wanna go out..." she trailed off, looking away.
"NO! I mean no... I do want to go out with you, I'm just surprised. Wait, aren't you dating someone anyways?" I asked, surprised.
"Well, I was, but he dumped me for Angela Clarks" she shrugged, still shy.
"Oh...then yeah. I'd love to go out with you again. I don't know what was in my head when I broke up with you before, because I still really like you..." I said, trying to get her to open up to the other side I was able to glimpse at when we dated before.
Her face broke into a huge smile. "Really? You mean it? For real?" she asked, excited.
"Yeah of course. As a matter of fact, do you wanna come over tonight? We can watch movies. I'm gonna be alone for a while." I asked.
"Aw... I would but I have to go with my mom to some fancy dinner at her friend's house. What about Saturday?" she asked, her shyness melting away.
"Sure, that's fine too!" I exclaimed. Suddenly a bell rang. That means it time for class to start again. I sighed and grabbed her hand. She looked at me surprised. I squeezed it and smiled, like the old days.
"See you then." I said.
"See you." she smiled.
I let go of her hand, and went to my next class
The next day I was surprised by a knock at the door. No one ever comes here, and Katie's not coming til tommorrow, so I don't know who it could be. I opened the door to find Adrie standing on my doorstep. Well, shit.
"Hi, I need to come in. Its urgent..." she says quickly, tapping her foot and chewing her lip. I looked at her face. She didn't have that same look as before. It was more gentle, more worried. It was kinda cute. I mentally slapped myself. What was I thinking? I hate this girl, plus I have Katie.
"What's up?" I asked, trying to sound casual. She looked at her feet.
"Well, something happened at my house and I need to stay here for awhile. My parents are gone, and I'm not allowed in the house." she asked. She looked up at me with tears in my eyes. "Please, I beg you..." she whispered.
"Why should I do anything for you? All you've done this year is get me in trouble and humiliated me!" I asked, scolding her. She winced.
"I'm sorry. Please. I beg...I won't do it again! I promise!" she begged.
"Fine, but just for a while. My mom will be back in 6 months from jail, so you have to be out by then." I reasoned. Then she did something unexpected. She threw her pale arms around my waist and thanked me.
"Thank you so much! You don't realize how much this means to me!" she thanked. It was weird, she seemed different from the evil girl I met in school. I was going to have to get used to her though, because I'm going to be living with her for god knows how long. She ran out the front door, and came back a minute later with a suitcase.
"Where can I stay?" she asked eagerly. I led her to the guest bedroom, and she thanked me, then shut the door in my face. I shrugged and went to my room and grabbed my ipod. I went back downstairs and went to sit on the couch when I saw her, with a white shirt, black skirt, and purple and black stockings stretched out on the couch, fast asleep. I went to wake her but changed my mind. Instead, I grabbed a blanket and covered her up.
"Goodnight, Adrie." I whispered, un-audibly.
*Adrie's P.O.V.*
I sprawled out on the couch like a cat, just to get on his nerves. I know I should be more grateful to him, since he was helping me out until the murder cleared up. But, damn he was so fun to tease. He came downstairs and saw me, thinking I was asleep. He stretched out his hand to wake me, but changed his mind. There was a part of me that wanted him to touch me... wait what? WHAT THE HELL AM I THINKING???? Okay that was weird...I watched him through long eyelashes, as he grabbed a blanket and covered me up. His lips whispered something and he walked back upstairs. I smiled as I drifted off to sleep for real.
I woke up the next morning with the smell of bacon drifting through the house. Mom? Am I young again? Is it back to the time when mom actually cooked for me? Wait, no. I started to remember. Oh yeah...Adrie was here. Wait... Adrie was here...and I can smell stuff... OH CRAP SHE'S GONNA BURN DOWN THE KITCHEN!!! I jumped out of bed and threw on a black tee and went downstairs. Adrie looked up from cooking bacon when I walked in.
"What're you doing?" I asked, frantically. She smiled.
"What does it look like? I'm making breakfest." she laughed.
"Where did you get the food? My mom never keeps that stuff in the house." I asked, suspiciously.
"I went to the store." she said, plainly. Oh, duh. I wonder how long she's been up. I went back upstairs and changed into some jeans and ran a comb through my hair. When I came back downstairs she was sitting at the table with two plates. I sat down and she slid one over to me.
"Thanks."
"No problem, idiot." she answered. Then the phone rang. I went to pick it up. It was Katie.
"Hello?" she asked.
"Oh Hey, Katie." I answered.
"Hey, are we still having our date today?" she asked.
"Yeah, of course." I answered, slightly off-guard.
"You didn't forget about me, did you?" she asked, teasingly.
"No! Of course not!" I reassured her. I completely forgot. She said goodbye and I hung up. I turned around, but Adrie wasn't there.
"Adrie?" I asked. She didn't answer, wherever she was. I went to clean my dish, but it was gone. What is she up to? I went into the kitchen but there were no dishes in the sink. Hm, she washed it already. I shrugged and went upstairs. There was music coming from the guest room. I listened to the song a moment. The lyrics were words that I couldn't understand. Some other language. But the song sounded good.
I knocked on the door. "Yo, Adrie!"
*Adrie's P.O.V.*
I was listening to my vocaloid songs, when I got a knock at the door.
"Yo Adrie!"
"Whaaat?" I answered.
"I need to talk to you."
"Kay, whatever..." I turned off the music as he opened the door.
"Hey... my girlfriend, Katie's coming over..." he said, clearly embarresed. He sat down on the bed next to me. Girlfriend? A part of me screamed out in pain. What? There that was again. Some strange thing happening inside of me. Its not like I was in love with him. Its not like I could love...because of what I am...
"You want me to stay upstairs and not interfere because she'll think your cheating?" I asked. He looked up, astonished.
"Well, yeah. Could ya do that? Please?" He asked. I nodded. "Thanks a lot, Adrie." he smiled. I smiled back, as he got up and left the room. Wait a minute! Did I just SMILE at him??? The world is officially ending!!!
*Quinn's P.O.V.*
The doorbell rang throughout the house. DING DONG! I ran to get it. I glanced in the mirror beside the door, smoothing back my wild hair, before opening the door.
"Hi!" I welcomed, thinking it was Katie. It wasn't. It was Ms. Dong.
"Heloooo Boy. Would yoooou like some cooookies?" she asked, holding a tray of chocolate chip cookies, and peering around me.
"No thanks Ms. Wong." I answered, starting to close the door. I saw Katie walking up steps behind Ms. Wong. Katie waved at me and looked at Ms. Wong in a confused way. Ms. Wong didn't notice Katie.
"WAIT! Son, who is that lady who has moved in this house with yoooou?" she asked suspiciously. Well, shit. I looked over at Katie who was staring at me with hurt. She turned around and walked back down the steps.
"KATIE! Wait! You don't understand!" I shouted, pushing Ms. Wong out of the way. Ms. Wong shrugged and went back to her house.
"What don't I understand? I think she just spelled it out for me! You're cheating on me. I was stupid to want to get back together with you!" she shouted. I ran to her and grabbed her wrists, as she tried to tug away i tightened my grip.
"Katie, Ms. Wong is suspicious of everything. But,yes it is true there is a girl staying in my house. That's just because she begged me to, and she had nowhere else to live. Plus, I had room for her to stay there. I love you, and that girl. I don't even like her" I explained carefully, as she settled down. Upstairs, the curtains parted and Adrie looked down at the scene.
" Are you telling the truth?" she asked, looking into my eyes.
"Yes...actually..." I thought out loud. I let go of Katie's wrists, which were starting to turn purple. I turned and faced the house. "ADRIE!!! COME DOWN HERE!" I shouted.
"WHY? I DON'T FEEL LIKE IT!!!" she shouted back.
"THE LEAST YOU CAN DO IS COME DOWN HERE SINCE YOU'RE STAYING HERE AND ALL!" I shouted back. There was a silence.
"Adrie? Adrie Jenkins? The girl you got in trouble with?" Katie asked. I nodded.
Finally I heard Adrie stomping down the stairs. She swung the door open and marched over to me.
" I guess you don't remember the breakfest I made you." she sneered. I sneered back at her.
"Please explain to Katie that we hate each other and will NEVER EVER fall in love." Quinn begged.
*Adrie's P.O.V.*
Explain what? Wow, he's a dumbass. Of course I'd never love him! There was a sharp pain in my chest. I reached up and clutched the place where it hurt. My heart. Damn....what's happening. More pains came and I started to groan.
"Adrie? Are you okay?" he asked, letting go of Katie's hand. Wait, he was holding Katie's hand? More sharp pains erupted in my chest. I let out a soft scream as my knees started to buckle under me. As I fell I felt someone catch me.
"OH MY GOD! Is she okay?" I heard Katie ask faintly in a worried tone.
"I don't know." Quinn answered.
I looked at Katie. "What he said is true. He loves you with all his heart. That's all I hear about is Katie! Katie! Katie!" I smiled. A huge shock of pain sent me into half consiousness. I felt someone carrying me. Quinn. I opened my eyes and stared at him through long lashes. Yes, Quinn. For some reason it felt good when he held me like this. I expected the other side of my mind to object, but it didn't. I felt relaxed. And tired. I decided to go to sleep as he carried me. Haha I'm like a baby.
I opened my eyes again and I was in a white room with no ends. Just tons of blank space. I saw a figure in front of me. As my eyes focused, I noticed who it was. A woman. THAT woman
"Ah! No, get away from me you witch!" I screamed, backing up. I bumped into a wall. The woman laughed.
"Hello again, my dearest Adriana."she welcomed, opening her arms.
"I already did it Hero! Leave me alone!" I yelled at the beautiful woman.
"No, you did it wrong. The deal was, you had to kill the one you loved the most. And you killed both of your parents. You don't love them the most." she smiled.
"What? So I killed my parents for nothing!" she screamed.
"Yes, my dear. You did. But Destiny wanted you to go that way!" Hero smiled.
"Then please explain to me, who the hell I have to kill in order to get rid of this curse!" Adrie demanded.
"All in time my dear, all in time!" Hero smiled again. Adrie hated that smile.
"NO! Tell me now, or I will break the gift." she threatened. Hero sighed.
"I suppose I should. The person who you love the most, is the one you must kill. So I have figured out that you must kill, Quinn Campbell." Hero explained. No, not Quinn. No...why him? Adrie let a tear slide down her face. She looked down.
"So be it." she whispered. Hero smiled.
