Portland, Oregon
In Chalmers Johnson's book ""Nemesis"" he quotes part of ""Protocol Additional
to the Geneva Conventions of August 12, 1949 relating to the Protection of
Victims of International Armed Conflicts (Protocol 1, June 8, 1977, which
states, ""It is prohibited to attack, destroy, remove, or render useless
objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population such as . . .
crops . . . drinking water installations and supplies.. . Johnson notes the
United States is not a signatory of Protocol 1 ""but this does not absolve it
of the charge that its behavior (in bombing Iraq) was profoundly immoral.""
These actions continue today with multiple countries bombing civilians and
their supplies - As Johnson states, ""the bombing (in Iraq) violated
international humanitarian law and made the United States liable to charges of
war crimes.""
As do,I think, the destruction of computer systems that accomplish the same
goals.
