“I love French, it’s my language,” she said, quickly adding, “But if I only
spoke French, it would limit my horizons.” I agree with that. But what about
the limitations of speaking english only? Or, even you can speak french here,
but not interested at all about the french quebec culture? The francophones
who speak (and work) in english like me, are clients for the english (anglo-
saxon) culture, as well as french culture (from quebec, but also from the rest
of the french language world). But I rarely meet english-montrealers who
consumes cultural products in French. It's a fact you also have to talk about.
If you want to understand a society, you have to know its television, movies,
music and poetry. And its history, of course.
