"They hadn’t been together long. Danica felt she hadn’t mapped Arusha yet, wasn’t familiar with her patterns and rhythms. That was always part of the excitement – exploring the routes of another.

Sometimes Danica longed for a quicker way to know someone, you know, before you got involved. Something like the thing that did the unlocking on the car. If you had one for people, you could get into them quicker. There’d be less feeling around for the entrance, for the button that opened them up.
She was impatient, she knew that.

“Take it easy gal”, Arusha had said, “Take your time, I tend to unfold like an anemone, not open like a tin of beans.”
