NEGATIVE EXTERNALITIES




     Danica was late. Leaping from the bed into the ensuite, she skimmed off her pyjamas and thrust herself under the shower nozzle. She dripped water as she dried herself, dropping the towel on the floor. Talc scattered like icing on the mat. Back in the bedroom she ransacked drawers for pants, bra; rifled the racks for that dress, the one she’d picked out. Then make-up – “keep it simple,” she said to herself, “no overstatement.”


      She would have time, perhaps, to quickly check herself before she went in.
Where was that hairbrush?
      “Arusha where’s the brush?”

 “In my bag," came the sleepy voice from the bed.


Bag grabbed, brush extracted, other contents spilled.
      “Right, I’m off, wish me luck,” said Danica to the shape in the bed.

 “Yeah. Luck “ and a slim hand slid out from beneath the duvet.


Danica bent and kissed it. “Bye,” she whispered.


      Flying down stairs, out to the car, already 10 mins behind. Car started first go for a change; swiftly down the lane and out onto the B road.
