Amy, a Christian, wife, and mother of two had never been the stay-at-home kind but for her children's sake, she had to decide to stay home and raise them. Shortly after, she began to desire more —she knew there was more and was determined to pursue it. With that desire came so many disappointments, so much so that she gradually slipped into depression. At a point, she began to feel empty —this feeling of emptiness couldn't be explained. She depended on those closest to her to fill the void but she got disappointed still — the emptiness remained. Soon after, she got a job that she was so excited about. Amy thought she was going to get the satisfaction she desperately sought after but no. The late bus transmitter was down to its last on the road for the night was slowly growing later, the sky above becoming darker and darker till almost the entire world went dark. The only lights that existed in the world were the bus highlights and the few fading streetlights the city had to offer, but even then those lights were fading into the endless void of the night, leaving behind only a lonely bus to forever wander the lonesome dirt roads of the more lonely side of the city. On one hand, the dirt roads that would resemble that of the country roads one would see in the more rural side of the world were rather calming as the bustling life of the city one would be always exposed to at some point in their lives, would cause a lot of stress for some people regardless of whether or not, they were used to. But on the other hand, the roads that were like this were very lonely and isolated, far from the comforts and presence of other people and police. [mehr]

Meditations is a series of writings by Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor 161–180 CE, setting forth his ideas on Stoic philosophy. A central theme to "Meditations" is to analyze your judgement of self and others and developing a cosmic perspective. As he said "You have the power to strip away many superfluous troubles located wholly in your judgement, and to possess a large room for yourself embracing in thought the whole cosmos, to consider everlasting time, to think of the rapid change in the parts of each thing, of how short it is from birth until dissolution, and how the void before birth and that after dissolution are equally infinite". He advocates finding one's place in the universe and sees that everything came from nature, and so everything shall return to it in due time. It seems at some points in his work that we are all part of a greater construct thus taking a collectivist approach rather than having an individualist perspective. Another strong theme is of maintaining focus and to be without distraction all the while maintaining strong ethical principles such as "Being a good man". His Stoic ideas often involve avoiding indulgence in sensory affections, a skill which will free a man from the pains and pleasures of the material world. He claims that the only way a man can be harmed by others is to allow his reaction to overpower him. An order or logos permeates existence.
