He has published over 30 journal articles in reputable journals in Australia, Nigeria, United Kingdom and the United States of America. He has attended conferences and workshops on virtually all the continents of the world. In addition, he has published three books on environmental biology and health, ecology and sustainable resource use that includes; Practising Ecology: Chances and Choices, Environmental Practices for Human Well-Being and Reflections on Ecology and Society. When the young Hojjat-al-Islam sayyed Ali Khamenei began these series of sermons at the half-built Imam Hassan Mojtaba Mosque in Mash-had for 28 sessions in the month of Ramadan 1394 (1975), the city of Mash-had acquired a different atmosphere: The sessions were held following noon-prayers in the heat of summertime when people usually went to their houses to rest for a couple of hours; yet, in a locality in this city many people , young and old, were on the way to attend Khamenei’s unique lectures; if you could look at the audience, you would notice that many people belonging to different social strata: Theology students, high school pupils, university students, shop- keepers, local residents, both men and women, especially young ones, all attended these sessions; medical students had managed to hire two buses to transfer them from the vicinity of the university to this mosque. In Khamenei’s lectures, everything is different from traditional, spiritual sermons: everyone is given one or two photocopied pages containing a summary of topics to be discussed in the session, the lecturer delivers his speech while standing g on a fasting day and after the end of the lecture, a fine-sounding Quran reciter chants the relevant Quranic verses discussed already. Many “self-help books” talk about goal-setting and making habits with the target of wanting something outside of oneself. Often external validation or a career we want or something like that. This book is not that, this book explores our inner worlds and how we can feel more content with what we already have but still search for a fulfilling life and make our internal and external goals go hand-in-hand. This is not a book about external and material goals like guiding you for societal success though. It will teach you how to find your inner happiness instead. It has a spiritual approach as well as a psychological approach, but there’s no specific religion attached to this book. It just explores these internal journeys in a way that I feel is worth discussing, as a generally spiritual person and a person who has studied evidence-based psychology as well. This is, however, a highly philosophical read and it also contains my own philosophical thoughts I have developed over the years. So be prepared to read about things you have not heard of before.
Content warning: This book is written almost like a memoir and I have included parts of my own journey as a basis for the more educational and informational content in this book. That means that I’m describing topics including sexual assault, abuse, domestic violence, ableism, mental- and physical health issues, and such. If you are not in a place where you want to read about that - although this book doesn’t explore these topics very heavily - I suggest waiting with this book. I won’t discuss the topics in an intense and descriptive manner, but it is worth saying that this book contains such topics regardless. [mehr]

Community Development (CD) is a broad term applied to the practices and academic disciplines of civic leaders, activists, involved citizens and professionals to improve various aspects of local communities.
Community development seeks to empower individuals and groups of people by providing them with the skills they need to effect change in their own communities. These skills are often created through the formation of large social groups working for a common agenda. Community developers must understand both how to work with individuals and how to affect communities' positions within the context of larger social institutions.
There are a myriad of job titles for CD workers and their employers include public authorities and voluntary or non-governmental organisations, funded by the state and by independent grant making bodies. Since the nineteen seventies the prefix word ‘community’ has also been adopted by several other occupations from the police and health workers to planners and architects, who work with more disadvantaged groups and communities and have been influenced by CD approaches.
CD practitioners have over many years developed a range of skills and approaches for working within local communities and in particular with disadvantaged people. These include less formal educational methods, community organising and group work skills. Since the nineteen sixties and seventies through the various anti poverty programmes in both developed and developing countries, CD practitioners have been influenced by structural analyses as to the causes of disadvantage and poverty i.e. inequalities in the distribution of wealth, income, land etc and especially political power and the need to mobilise people power to affect social change. Thus the influence of such educators as Paulo Friere and his focus upon this work also being about politicising the poor. Other key people who have influenced this field are Saul Alinsky (Rules for Radicals) and EF Schumacher (Small is Beautiful).
The UK currently hosts the main international body representing community development, the International Association for Community Development. IACD was started in the USA in 1953, moved to Belgium in the seventies and to the UK (Scotland) in 1998. Community development as a term has taken off widely in anglophone countries i.e. the USA, UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand and other countries in the Commonwealth. It is also used in some countries in eastern Europe with active CD associations in Hungary and Romania. The International Community Development Journal, published by Oxford University Press, and set up in 1967 has been the major forum for research and dissemination of international CD theory and practice. Her uncle was the poet Matthew Arnold and her grandfather Thomas Arnold, the famous headmaster of Rugby School. Her sister Julia married Leonard Huxley, the son of Thomas Huxley, and their sons were Julian and Aldous Huxley.[3] The Arnolds and the Huxleys were an important influence on British intellectual life.
Mary's father Tom Arnold was appointed inspector of schools in Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania) and commenced his role on 15 January 1850.[4] Tom Arnold was received into the Roman Catholic Church on 12 January 1856, which made him so unpopular in his job (and with his wife) that he resigned and left for England with his family in July 1856.[4] Mary Arnold had her fifth birthday the month before they left, and had no further connection with Tasmania. Tom Arnold was ratified as chair of English literature at the contemplated Catholic university, Dublin, after some delay. Mary spent much of her time with her grandmother. She was educated at various boarding schools (from ages 11 to 15, in Shifnal, Shropshire[5]) and at 16 returned to live with her parents at Oxford, where her father had a lecturership in history.[6] Her schooldays formed the basis for one of her later novels, Marcella (1894).[7][8]
On 6 April 1872, not yet 21 years old, Mary married Humphry Ward, a fellow and tutor of Brasenose College, and also a writer and editor. For the next nine years she continued to live at Oxford, at 17 Bradmore Road, where she is commemorated by a blue plaque.[9] She had by now made herself familiar with French, German, Italian, Latin and Greek. She was developing an interest in social and educational service and making tentative efforts at literature. She added Spanish to her languages, and in 1877 undertook the writing of a large number of the lives of early Spanish ecclesiastics for the Dictionary of Christian Biography edited by Dr William Smith and Dr. Henry Wace.[10] Her translation of Amiel's Journal appeared in 1887. Dr. Allan Hoben, president of Kalamajsoo College, Mich., since 1922, will preach at Sage Chapel tomorrow at both the morning and vesper services. Dr. Hoben received his A.B. degree from the University of New Brunswick In 1895, where two years later he was awarded his Master's degree. He pursued his theological studies at the Newton Theological Institution from which he graduated the following year, and a year later he was ordained Into the Baptist Ministry. In 1901 he was granted a Ph.D. degree from the University of Chicago. Dr. Hoben served as pastor of the church at Waupun, Wisconsin, became director of the Baptist Students' Guild at the University of Chicago, and spent the next three years there In that capacity. After that Dr. Hoben became pasor of the First Baptist Church of Detroit,, after which he became associate Professor of Practical Theology at the University of Chicago. After holding this post for 11 years, Dr. Hoben became professor of Sociology at Carleton College until 1922, when he assumed the position which he now holds.
