Incredible, Paula! Your survival skills seem to be in your genetic make-up! You never gave up hope, as painful as everything had to have been!
Hugs to you, Paul! Petra :))
I couldn't stop reading Lewy vs Al. An excrutiating and painful look at Alzheimer's; expressed poignantly and sensitivity.
My father has Alzheimer's, so can relate to much of what the caregiver goes through. My father is in the early stages and hasn't strayed or shown aggression, but I've been forewarned!
I offer my love and blessings, Paula. Your ability to maintain your husband's dignity until the end is triumphant!

I think you are one of the bravest woman I have had the pleasure of meeting. I enjoyed your book.
I only got about halfway through this, and I found the concept interesting. I will come back to compare the two conditions later. What I did read was interesting.
I have experienced the premature baby episode too - 44 years yesterday my first son was born and was 5 pounds - today that would not be a big deal but 44 years ago proper care for an early baby was not readily available. My son had pneumonia 6 times before the age of two. The first time he was hospitalized and after that I recognized the signs and was able to stop the progression. After that he never got sick. He still sleeps... mehr anzeigen
You are one very brave woman. My Dad was a victim of Alzheimer. He died in February of 2009. I could clearly recognize the experience. They can be brutally aggrasive one moment, and gentle and caring the next, and you never know where their spirit dwells until they act it out.
Thank you very much for this brave personal account and for all the research you've obviously done. Thank you!
Carmen
I like the straightforward manner with which you write, and your honesty. This simple recounting of what has happened to you both is written from the heart, and so we feel it too. The photo of you both - so young and happy - adds a real poignancy to the story.
I expect people ask you how you manage to keep going. From my own experience of having a very premature child there isn't any option - you just get on with it. I'm sure... mehr anzeigen
I find to be echoing other's opinions quite a bit. I agree 100 % with Joe. Your spirit and strength shine through here. Your love for you husband is sooooo apparent.
This is not only a very good account of your life...it is also a very informational book, that discusses so many of the different aspects of the various diseases and disorders you and your husband have been coping with. People could learn a lot from what you've... mehr anzeigen
Very pretty sound ~ echoing...thanks for feedback...I see you have another book I need to read...I'm getting behind in my reading because I was writing and editing, and you know the drill. That last picture I pulled from the New York Times Thread I get everyday on the net. I had... mehr anzeigen
I found that my husband had more bouts of the swing moods when he was on the Citalopram. Since he been off it - I still don't know if it is totally cleared from his system - he has been calmer and more aware of reality. it seems to me I have spent the past 1/4 century learning... mehr anzeigen
I found that my husband had more bouts of the swing moods when he was on the Citalopram. Since he been off it - I still don't know if it is totally cleared from his system - he has been calmer and more aware of reality. it seems to me I have spent the past 1/4 century learning about one disease after another and the more I learn the less medicine I am willing to take.
Alzheimer's like cancer seems to touch everyone be it close or distant. I will be doing a children's book soon on the subject of cancer [a lady in line at the post office suggested it] but first I need to get the text finished on The Midnight Caper which I hope to have published by mid 2010.
