I was at a day's writing course and we had a ten minute exercise to do. That's what came to me, and it was such a powerful memory - it just poured out. It was the first piece of creative writing I'd done since school, but it had obviously been sitting in there all those years since the birth, just waiting to be written. Oh no, joy definitely. Her sneezes now are just like anyone else's - not a sign of anything sinister; and actually, although that first sneeze could have signified that she was getting a cold (dangerous at that size), for some reason it struck us as a normal human reflex, the first that we'd seen, which is why we felt such a thrill when it happened.

The presentation of the story is explanatory. The story would have been more effective if situations and dialogues are included. I expect more such stories from you.

You're probably right vvaman, and thanks for your comment. I was given ten minutes to write a description of someone and for some reason that's what came out - not exactly what was asked for, but still largely descriptive. it wasn't supposed to be part of a longer story. I have actually written a short play based on the incident, and that of course has the background and the dialogue; but I don't think it works as well as this one. Thanks for reading it!
