Much of this is still happening here and now. One county over (closer to Portland) the dogs and cats are still being killed at alarmingly high rates. It's just been within the past few years that some areas across the Country are picking up on the concept of 'compassion' for these animals. We have a long way to go, but I do agree; things are changing.

Robin, this is a great take on a poem compilation for your book. I've often wondered what the people are like who dedicate their lives to helping animals, people, those in need. Your poetry is well versed and feel I can relate to some of the poems directly (for I am a first-time dog owner).

"a graveyard for sticks and old balls that died" - I feel like this captures the heart and renovation of what animal shelters used to be. Thank God things have changed drastically since then. Thanks for this.

these are really lovely poems. i love the interplay of lyricism and realism. beautiful word choice for such a heart-breaking subject, rendered so concretely in terms of real animals' lives--and deaths. thank you, Robin

I looked again at your poems and certainly the pictures look wonderful and enhance the words. As I said before, I can only read one or two and then I have to stop because I find them too upsetting! All those dogs that you befriended, that were then "put down". Too dreadful. It's beautiful and passionate poetry - I just wish I was brave enough to read it all..
