I see I forgot to comment. Nothing left for me to add now, the others said it all. Loved the story and the tiny surprise about the protagonist in the end was clever. You wrote it well.

Review - Could smell the smoke and feel the flames as well as her pain. Motherly instinct is a wondrous thing and you showcased it well in this quick little story.

It was good

You were very clever using that cover, it had me with something already in mind, but then as I began to read, again with preconceived thoughts it turned yet again. Why you cleaver boy. LOL!!!

This mother of instinct, regardless of race, creed, color, or species. I suspected as you moved the story deftly on as one by one; human's may have herded or grouped them together. Well, told in a way only you can tell. Refreshing read from a day of scrambling.

Incidence close to home, where in fact a youngster - 5 or 6- saved his mother, father and brother from trailer park fire.

Doggone it, or "Catgone it" - why did I read the comments first. I should not have done that as I knew from the start what was happening. I have learned my lesson.

Despite knowing the plot, I still enjoyed this short and very sweet story from Laz who is improving as he writes. Again, I know English is not your first language, and you are to be heartily congratulated for your poetic, imaginative and heartbreaking plots which leave us feeling a little better than when we came in.

I know you will appreciate a kind and helping hand...and not take this as negative. I would have changed the last lines as follows. They would have flowed a little better, in my opinion. Thanks, Laz, for keeping us entertained as only you can.

"Eyes tightly shut due to the thick smoke, the pads of her paws badly burned and her fur singed, Scarlett collapses beside her five little ones. Unable to see, she touches each one with her severely burned paw to make sure they are all present and accounted for. Happily, her kittens are safe and sound!

Thanks all you guys...and Tabitha, I too know what it feels like. Saved a TV for an old fellow once while on vacation in Miami. Climbed up to an back upstairs window. The room was filling with smoke, I panicked, dropped the TV because the wires were stapled to the wall. Ripped them out, and carried it down to the guy...got $10...I felt like a hero...lol.
I think there's another story there...oops, just wrote it.

That is the best story I have read about a young mother saving her children. I saved my mother and brother from a fire before, even though my mom broke her toe running out I woke them up. I made sure I grabbed my brothers dog out to. Its scary being inside of a house with a fire not knowing if you are going to make it or not. But now I want to be a fire fighter because of it. I am stronger. I might make a story about it.
