I did actually find one thing that jolted me from this easy flowing read, and that was when you wrote 'now awake'. You plonked it in the middle of a sentence and it's not good. I think you should perhaps just tell us the baby is awake and then carry on with the tale, rather than make us have to go back and re-read it, to see what you meant.
Apart from that enormous error in this story (I'm kidding with the 'enormous')you actually caught me on the twist-in-the-tale. Maybe its because I'm reading stuff at the moment that have no twists, so I wasn't expecting it. Or maybe you just wrote it so well, giving no clues to upset the balance, that you genuinely entertained me.
i thought it was charming and as one reader here said, a lovely tribute to those loyal little creatures.
