Why haven't i read this before? I thought i had and then opened up the cover and realized i hadn't, if you know what i mean.
Anyway, I thought it was charming and well written and well presented, although I don't think the cover did it justice. I was interested in the many colors you utilized within the prose, so to have a black and white cover, didn't do it for me.

And this is a fantasy book. You should advertise it as such and get the younger BookRix crew reading it. They'll love it.
A few crits:
1. Bunny? Rabbit!
2. Ruby! Why haven't you mentioned ruby in the color thread? Its sublime. I know you'll say its standard, but I honestly haven't read the word Ruby for years. Maybe it's ruby's time to come back around.
3. The change of POV when you leave the couple and go to the waking attendant. It needs to be clearer. Only a tad! Maybe introduce him with a name and give him an identity, seeing as he becomes a main character in the event.
Good story, and a place amongst the top ten, surely.
Good luck
