Thanks for sharing your work with us. I thought it was an innovative approach to a "scary story".
Creative take! I definitely didn't see WW2 era radio broadcasts when I read the prompt. (Thanks for putting that at the beginning.)
World War two has a special fascination for me, I guess because my grandfather served for three years while my grandmother was home raising two children. That generation was amazing. Your story was right up my ally. I really enjoyed it and thought it was a creative way to expand on the paragraph you were given. Well done.
You are so kind to say you enjoyed my story. I love writing about moments that challenge the ties that bind. And nothing is more challenging than the 'not knowing' that follows something as horrific as thinking 'was my loved one killed?'
On a less intense note:
One of my FB friends who is actually in NC and now lives right outside of Waxhaw was shocked to read the name of the little town in the story. And another person sent... mehr anzeigen
But part of the fun of this contest was NOT knowing who'd be reading the entries. It makes you really focus on the 'it' of the story. And as far as this particular short goes, I had a fairly good idea that most people would go the 'scary' route and also that the judges would lean towards that genre which is A-OK with me! Thanks so much for your kind words. I... mehr anzeigen
Wonderful story Avery. Your ability to think outside the box is, in my opinion, the mark of a good writer. Imaginative! A wonderful, heartfelt story that deserves recognition. Way to go!
I love the originality and applaud you for breaking from the pack. I agree with many of the others. This was definitely a winner in its own right, as are YOU!
You're so kind to say you enjoyed the story. The contest was rather broad in scope 950 words, use the prompt and go for it! So that's what I did!
Oh, and then there was the 24 hour time limit! That's what really added the pressure!
Again, so pleased you liked it. Hope I'll be able to crank out some more that you'll pop by to read one day!
Cordially,
Avery
One of my favorite things to do is to listen to old broadcasts of dramas, scary stories, and comedies from the golden age of radio. There's something so 'real' about gathering around to listen to the unseen voices from so far away.
I guess I'm just a sucker for a good old fashioned camp fire story!
I'm so pleased you enjoyed the story and that you understood the turn I took. I could have gone for a 'horror' story - after all,... mehr anzeigen
