I want to comment very briefly.
You have gone way beyond your years (again) displaying your writing ability. The originality of the story is phenomenal. It is what they call Literary, and not many are masters of it. You are soon to be, and i hope you remember Bookrix when you leave for The New Yorker. You have it I am convinced. You have small errors...you need an editor capable of catching them and pointing them out. We all do, however.
Phrases such as "...thunder so loud that it shook the very earth and caused it to cover its ears." You don't pick that up with practice; you're born to it. It's in your writer's soul.
"...bohemian looking strap..." another effortless painting on your part. But, it is always story in the end, and this gem is fabulous, beginning to end. I'm in awe.
