ok - this site is still glitchy - I sent the message in your mail that I tried to send from here and it would not and now I seem to have a cleared slate. I await your answers to both e mails - please on FB - although I obviously will need to stop in here to read the book.

And I agree with Patrick - a sliver of advice from an older sister, never lose ground, never retreat. And never tell someone you're leaving. But, if you do, come back here more often than I do.

I'm thankful I saw your cry for beta readers because I will read it even if you do not need any additional - I read your first publication and by just a short distance in, I know I am in a new outlook for this saga.

You, dear friend, are among those I included in the group who were "old guard," who understand the point of this site, and who was part of my learning journey. Your comments, observations, suggestions, example as a superior writer, and friendship are a huge part of why I've stayed as long as I have.

What's making me consider leaving has only to do with the lack of reaction to a simple request. I can (and have) put up with the silly social nonsense that has sadly become a normal part of the site. I can put up with the endless "I'm bored - anyone wanna chat" crap that floods my in-box every day. I can even deal with the fact that an alarming percent of our new members are barely literate, have posted nothing but threats against anyone who hurts the feelings of some other member, and never EVER leave comments (why do they even bother to add books to their Favorites?). Why?

Because every once in a while someone joins who "get" who we are, who is serious about becoming a better writer, and who post their efforts. These usually do leave at least a cursory remark, and their work shows a lot of promise. For those people I stay in the hope that I might be able to help them at least a little.

And of course, you and some of the others who have been around long enough to remember how things used to be will post something new and ask for a comment. So I'm still here, for now.

I haven't found any other site I like better, to be honest, so if I do leave, I won't be joining any other site. I'll just get busy publishing everything I've ever written, kinda like throwing lasagna at the wall and seeing how much of it sticks.

You know I love posting things in "Serious Writers" and other groups like that, that I thoroughly enjoy responding to questions and comments left by others. Reading the new work of writers who are not just "publishing" hate toward others in the form of a poorly-written story, or are trying to prove how grown-up they are by writing a "book" full of tasteless, disgusting, puerile and illiterate porn, but who have shown real imagination and a basic, native talent for writing, is what I keep looking for and occasionally finding.

So will I leave? I honestly don't know. But I think a lot of that decision hinges on whether or not I hear from some of those newer members for whom I've taken a great deal of time, effort, and concern to help them improve their own work. I should not have had to post an angry rant to get them to respond.You, John, Dave, and several others were not the target of that post, as I hope you know. Maybe I'm just getting tired of seeing good things getting destroyed by idiotic thinking.

Anyway, thank you for your kind words. Your'e a gem. And I have no idea why "insightfully" has that squiggly red line. According to the OED, it's an acceptable adverb. ')

I've read a lot of the books you have posted here but I haven't commented on them and I can't speak for all the newcomers but here's why I don't: you're a great writer. And I don't comment because other than to tell you that I like your work, I have no useful input to offer. For me, being new to this and not good at it yet, it's intimidating to offer advice or critique to someone that clearly has more talent than me. Even to those that aren't as good at it, I tend not to leave comments mostly because the few critiques I have left have been unwelcome. I feel like there are probably a few others out there that are like me, intimidated by the "old guard" and put off by the kids that treat this site like social media. But I don't want you to mistake my silence for disregard. You are talented and if you leave, that will be sad for those of us left. But if you leave, I'll probably still seek out your books, just on my Kindle instead of on bookrix. ;)

You find out later that how Cian looks is a vital part of the story. I didn't want to get into why in the first chapters because it's complicated, so to hint at its significance, I just had the girls (and others) talking about and reacting to it. As far as the trances go, because this is about Cian, I don't want to talk to much about Celeste, although I do mention the trances fairly soon. Still, that's an interesting observation, and is giving me some serious food for thought. I'll look through the manuscript and see if there's some way I could mention it sooner without detracting from Cian's back-story.

It is but I love complicated stories there not the ones you read in the doc's office they are the ones you sit up all night eating cold pizza and sipping a drink cause you cant put it down i can tell ill be rereading this again just cause i know ill spot things ive missed

That's the beauty of BookRix. Your book can be as many or as few pages as you wish. For bigger ones, though, I've found that if you copy/paste each chapter into its own chapter page using the dialogue box feature instead of a straight upload, you run into few problems and the limits go away. Just be sure to do a Save after every chapter.
