This has a lot of promise, but little things like over use of exclamation marks, and starting several sentences in a row with the same word, detract a bit from the flow and the reader's ability to interpret the scene/passage.
I grew up in Northwestern Pa and this book was reminiscent of my paretns friendships and the stories I loved to hear at thier dinner tables. It was a great read.

I love that you've started this story with a great action scene. You've handled characterisation beautifully, adding little bits here there without halting the flow of your story.
I like the natural feel of this story, you've really captured the time/culture/essense of life at this time.
A few spelling and grammatical errors. I think you've pulled off a good beginning, middle and end. I'll give you my vote.

The book has lots of interesting local color but it needs tightening up. The early episode about the boys on the RR tracks is out of place there. I suggest putting the MS aside for a week or two and then take a new look at it with a view to organizing it better. Also Debussy did not do opera as did Verdi and the other composer mentioned. There are a number of repetitious uses of the same word or phrase close together in the... mehr anzeigen

I love the cover to this book. It gets you ready for the fast-paced story of Frankie & Joey. The authors dialect is great! You can't help but to feel as if you are part of the story.
