hi snowy owl, like the new title Riven; a strong word usually used of wood when it is struck by lightning or a wooden boat when wrecked ; also hint of darkness associated with Raven. It is interesting as one writes one begins to look at words like an entomologist looks at beetles, studying their finer features and associations.
have you thought of using a form in writing that is mathematical or using a musical form like sonata?
Classical sonata

The standard Classical form is:

1st movement: Allegro (fast) in sonata form
2nd movement: Slow
3rd movement: Minuet and Trio or Scherzo
4th movement: Allegro

you can find yourself writing in some sort of form slow beginning , slightly faster , then allegro where lots happens then slower end where the themes come together.
so andante , scherzo, allegro fortissimo, andante

sonata Form - Exposition: (Theme Group 1 - Theme Group 2) --- Development --- Rec
apitulation: you see this sort of thing very much in film, and in folklore. The hero journey where there the task is set out and the reward (boon) to be gained , then the quest itself with set backs which the hero overcomes (often includes a journey), then the resolution which will describe the return and the gaining of the boon.
Our brains seem to want pattern and resolution.
sometimes this desire to complete a story become almost pathological such as the search for the Franklin expedition where even
now they are just getting the ending sorted.

we have the anticipation but not the resolution.

we want the "and ate it up "
or "they became friends"
or "they went to play soccer."

I changed the title of Sortryn! It is now called Riven, which means to tear apart forcefully.

So, guys I just wanted to know if you guys like my books. I've been working really hard on Sortryn and hope to get another chapter in soon, and I added in some more in the middle because I think it jumped from Bryce and Alice being friends to suddenly dating WAY too fast.
