Anyone who has lost someone dear (as we all do one day)can relate to this. I especially liked the line about crying in public. You just stop caring about a lot of silly things like "keeping it together" when you're grieving. Thanks for your work and for your comments on mine!

Frances, I can visualize the cycle of shock to acceptance. The book comes full circle.
I can only imagine how difficult and yet cathartic it was to write these poems, such is the beauty of writing.

My favorites were Too Many Tears, Early Mourning, and Going Through the Motions. They seemed to reach deeper within you, although I'm sure every one is close to your being.

Poetry is so subjective. One may read it and say, "it's ok", and obviously doesn't get it.

Thank you for sharing a very intimate look at a painful journey, Frances. May your brother's memory stay close within you while you do move on. It's a tough balancing act at first, but as you mentioned, with time, it gets easier.

May your creative juices continue to overflow, Frances!

I can certainly, certainly feel your pain. I survived the suicide of a close friend when I was nineteen, that also, came out of nowhere. I understand there is grief so don't let me take that from you. Technically, (I feel bad for this) it could be better. Try to show us your emotions through imagery, don't tell us. Know of any similes or metaphors? See anything, any pictures, no matter how odd, in your mind when you think of your brother, whether it be pain or a memory of something good? Then work that into your poems and I think they'll get a lot better. But you don't have to take my advice. Grief is hard enough...

What a spectacular read! Though sad, this touches me as I understand the loss of loved ones, and myself lost a family member, a cousin, to suicide.
