Thank you very much...and yes, I'm sure the "event" has been created by Hollywood in the past, but I'd like to see a modern version, true to the actual incidents. It was a looooong, horrifying ordeal for the family, especially for those (the girls) who died last. And yes, there was a guard who was drawn to Anastasia. How ironic.

Greg, I would recommend a book that documents everything. I wept after reading it. It shows the true brutality of the Bolsheviks. While my story was fictional, the true events were not. The Last Days of the Romanovs by Helen Rappaport.

Another beautifully written piece. You are a perfect example of why they should limit one entry per author! You shame other entries and suck our votes into the literary vortex you create!

...that was despicable as it was fascinating. I feel a theme for a contest coming on. A fictional take on a real historical event...or have we already done that?

Regardless, I enjoyed your story and the ending was very poignant, as it should be in such circumstances.

Can I make one insy winsy negative comment? Please avoid cliches like 'bursting into tears' it gives the reader an image of water running out of every orifice.
