I like your dedication poem.= Peaceful and humble.

From Winter is Born Spring. . .Very nice poem; good images; for me, the last two verses could be omitted to the advantage of the poem.

Snow Fort: Strong, moving; I feel for you.

Sucks beaches into oceans - Good! The warmht of the family. Well expressed, touch, taste, smell...

Ski resort. typo: mountain, first line

This is a very cool poem. The contrasts
" sucking down burgers" oestrogen and testosterone, etc. Good evocation of atmosphere...and Thank God you know that the mountain doesn't care. Way above the human wretchedness (as I see it).

Sled Hill. Excellent, Captures it exactly.

“Look,” Tim pointed.

Up against a shed partially covered with snow, they saw three red, plastic sleds, the kind kids use for runs in the meadows behind their houses. Both young men raced over and pulled the sleds out of the ice and snow. They kicked them hard them to dislodge the lumps of ice sticking to them.

“These will do,” said Rob. “Okay, let’s get going.”

They ran out into the middle of the field and putting the sleds next to each other leapt onto them just as they did when they played as kids. They carefully aimed the sleds at the point of greatest angle of the lower hairpin bend and sped off.

“Yes……..!” yelled Tim against the biting wind rushing by.

Certainly it was exhilarating, and it all looked perfectly smooth and innocent, but they knew that any unexpected bump or lump under the soft snow could cause a spill. Sitting straight up and extending their legs to use for balance and kicking objects out of the way, the two marines shot through the field, over the flattened area in front of a barn and into another field, this one full of moguls and partially buried trees.

“Think Houston!” shouted Rob to Tim and clamped his hand more tightly round the lead rope. Tim knew exactly what he meant. Both of them had tried out bull riding in Houston in the spring of that year. Riding the plastic sleds was nothing compared to riding those big bulls at the Houston Rodeo. Still, you had to hang on for dear life and “go with the flow”.

The boys rocketed down the bumpy hill, missing trees by inches, bouncing over moguls and just managing to keep straight until the very end. The sleds’ plastic brakes might have worked for a four-year old traveling at 5 miles an hour, but Tim and Rob were hurtling down the slope and weighed nearly 200 lbs each.
Finally, they came to a stop at the bottom of the hill by using their legs to brake.They stood up and both sleds slid away over the snow bank, into the road and bounced crazily down the hill.

They had made it!

Snow-filled Field
sad and pathetic. Wonderful pathos. Wonderful descriptions. I am going to vote for your book.

Snowstorm: excellent, too. You make me feel right in the picture. I see it, feel it, smell it... great stuff.

I just voted for u :) i loved number 9 and for some strange reason it gave me a weird sense of familiarity of something i have read before but i loved it, it gives me the impression of both the told story and a metaphor for life. it seems so much more deep than what is written on the page.

I started to make a list of my favourites and then found it was too long. Thank you for this book: the combination of imagery, observation and appreciation of mature, and appropriate style would make it a good volume; but the rawness of the emotion in some of the poems lifts them above mere goodness. I have voted for this.

I loved the raw, unedited menagerie of love and peace and pain and anger. These were clearly not written for someone else’s entertainment, but a heartfelt reflection on your own life. Any, yet they are well composed enough to have been.
