Fabulous story. It's all in the details and Barry's handled them with true emotion, compassion and a level of understanding that feels authentic. And a nice little twist at the end to tie it all together... well done.

A nice piece of flash fiction. Depressingly descriptive about a subject that is absolutely horrifying, and something that actually occurs in reality.

I have observed the aged, suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's in nursing homes, who "come back" with brief periods of lucidity, to shockingly realize what they have become before lapsing back into the fog of the unknown.

The thought of what they must feel when they make their brief return is terrifying.

You have described what it must be like gut-churningly well.

Certainly good enough for a vote.
