memoir of yor father. Sometimes we forget the little details as we grow older, realising that we too are mortal as they were. I should write what I know about mine, but so much is hidden to me. This hopefully, is a cathartic piece for you. Well written and had me picturing every moment. Evelyn/Bluedragon

For all the hearts and kind words. I have a couple more of these autobiographical bits and I thought I'd just let this one out and check its reception.

Perhaps I shouldn't admit it but, I can't read one of your comments and not well up again on a subject I thought I'd cried my last on decades ago.

If the story has touched you please understand that your comments have sincerely touched me as well... and that is worth any amount... mehr anzeigen

You are the mirror image of your Dad - facially and talent wise as you both shared a love of the arts. Your Dad excelled at music, whilst you excel in drama, public speaking(news reports) and writing.
All in all, a family to be proud of.

I don't cry when I read memories like this. I am envious that you have them to remember. We all lose our parents eventually - but when we have glorious recollections of their kindness and caring, we cannot weep. We can only be grateful that we were privileged to have mothers and fathers who cared about us. Many of us were not as lucky as you were.

You are fortunate, Barry, to have had such a great father who, I am sure, taught... mehr anzeigen

It's so strange, Barry, that as I read your small memoir I couldn't help recalling my own father and our family. The Swanson's Dinners, "His chair", his natural affinity for music and instruments...
This is a piece written in excellence; a tiny snippet of what I hope/trust is a full-length memoir. Your voice is clear and strong, and the details of your life are not only interesting, they are engaging in the way you've done... mehr anzeigen

Sad, poignant, and, as always, well-written. Good job. I'm sure your dad would be proud. :)

A wonderfully well written tribute, to a much loved father. I didn’t have any of that growing up, but I’m glad you did Barry.

And you’re right, you do play the wonderful instrument he gave you and trust me, the notes don’t wander. They make a beautiful sound. A heartfelt thank you for sharing this, my friend.

I don't know if that is the exact word i wanted to use but what I was trying to say is that you allowed me to actually picture your entire story! Thank you for sharing your dad with others, and yes I can hear the song! :) Keep writing!
