Sorry, but the TPP was written by corporations and its backers tried to push
it through the US Congress without any members reading it. It included the
right of corporations to sue cities, states and countries for loss of
potential profit for laws which prevented the corporations from starting up
business and polluting the new area. There were many other bad points for the
US. Please see Esquire article ""Surprise! The new trade deal is written by
and for corporations"" by Charles P. Pierce, November 11, 2015. His decision
not to go with the TPP is the only good point I can see in Trump, but his
reasoning was different than mine.

Democrats must stop being a party to the fringe groups and get back to the
roots. Be a voice for the American working families who have no voice to speak
for them. There are parties like the Green Paryy, Progressive Party, Liberal
Party, et al, that can speak for the fringe groups. Dems need to have a more
moderate approach.

Just what is legitimate in society and in politics? That is the question Mr.
Brooks raises. It is a fair question.

It is legitimate for parents to protect their children. No parent should bury
a child killed by a school shooter, a gang banger or another child playing
with a gun. Every parent should rage against the gunmen who kill children.
Every parent should rage against the people who gave those gunmen access to
assault rifles and the gun culture that encouraged those gunmen. Every parent
should rage against a political party that refuses to consider gun control
legislation.

Mr. Brooks, it's entirely legitimate for parents to vote their rage. It's not
just the elite parents who are enraged. It's all parents who wants to see
their children grow up. No parent wants her child to become the next shooting
victim.

As you watch conservatives become pariahs remember that the love of children
is a greater than love of guns.

I disagree that how a president of the United States who purports to have been
democratically elected, speaks, thinks about. and treats half the population
doesn't matter. Especially if he or his lawyer paid a member of that half to
keep quiet prior to his election about how he treated her. Further, I don't
claim to be up on contract law, but it seems strange to me that a contract to
perform an act that is contrary to the public interest, or public policy ( a
gag contract concerning a candidate; or worse one concerning an illegal act
(prostitution) should be enforceable by a court of law. Frankly, it's not even
clear to me that a court will order restitution. Why should a court sully its
hands?

Putin has a valuable partner in all this in Angela Merkel. I'm reminded of
Senator Jordan's line about Iselin being a ""paid agent"" in Manchurian
Candidate.
Merkel's incredibly rash move of throwing the gates open to millions of
immigrants is the gift that keeps on giving. There's nothing else that could
have driven so many Europeans into the arms of the right wing, that they would
otherwise never have dreamed of voting for. She may have been acting out of
compassion, but the rightward march of all Europe is the result.

Please tell me I’m not the only person in the world who thought March Madness
was about special annual retail sales—like Black Friday or Boxing Day. For
weeks leading up to the big event and for the duration, I’ve been waiting for
the flyers from my favourite retailers to arrive in my mailbox. With visions
of bargain-priced sugar plums dancing in my head I couldn’t wait to hit the
mall to stock up on half-price bras and underwear and my favourite jeans.
Surely all the big cosmetics companies would be having extra-special
promotions with yummy new shades of lipstick in their give-aways.
Excitement turned to disappointment when my husband gently explained that the
“real meaning” of March Madness was about sports— the narrowing down of
basketball teams competing for ranking in their respective cups—as in
athletic. Yes, Virginia. There is a Santa Claus, but not in March.
