This is just marvelous. Your little Maddie voice was spot on, and grandpa's unrequited love...well, I won't give away the ending, but the entire story worked perfectly.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Patrick. I was a little rushed in getting it in by the deadline and, believe it or not, that was the first story I've written in first person POV. Had to try it sometime....
I'm not ashamed to say...I got misty near the end. Simply great...well told short story.
