JUST PUSHING MY LUCK
eBook #5
We all have ridden our luck but like everything else a wave can’t last forever, just for a moment you are on a high and nothing else matters, but what goes up must come down, and being down is where you find most people, is this entertainment or is the torture? Do my words soothe or berate? In the misty world of literature does my contribution stand up to the real published poets and writers? Will my words fade away never to be seen again?
It has been five years since I first self-published an eBook and while things started slowly , I gained some momentum and rode my luck for a couple of years and now as I revisit these words I realise I can’t compete with what I have already done, I pushed my luck back then and now I see the world in a different light, I feel what I have done was little more than cheating, cutting corners because if I had any talent at all I wouldn’t be doing this over and over again.
So is there any room for my words? The only thing I know at this point is that I am not good at judging myself or my work, I have faith in what the reader says and it might not be always positive, I should be grateful I can join two words together and feel lucky that at least one person has read my work, maybe I am still pushing my luck after all these years.
Now let’s go back to 2015.

Somehow we have all arrived in the same place and we call it the year 2015, in this modern world we live in full of technology, computer simulations, space stations and landing on Mars a lot of our daily lives are based on old age theories and presumptions.
Those old wives tales, those silly little sayings like don’t walk under a ladder, don’t open your crisps the wrong way up, if we had to obey all the superstitions in this world we would never go anywhere and never get anything done.
Just Pushing My Luck is a totally brand new eBook, the only thing in common with the other eBook, that is no longer available, is the first poem, which has been slightly modified. All the other poems were written in the first weeks of January 2015 with a common theme of superstition, luck and a whole lot more of those old wives tales.
The original poem is actually about writing and pushing the boundaries on what should be accepted in this confused world, as my ideas were coming together, tragedy struck in Paris, as everybody knows people lost their lives for “pushing their luck”, I see every side of the coin but murdering people who have offended you is not the correct way of sorting it out.
Free speech is a very delicate word, some people offend to sell their image and some are just simply having a laugh, trying to make a joke out of bad news, I remember programs like Spitting Image in England or Kenny Everett and even The Young Ones, all programs taking the piss out of everybody and anybody, lots of people wrote in to complain including a certain Mary Whitehouse, the solution to your problem is not murder or censorship, it is so simple…
Turn off your television and close the book
We fly the flag for freedom of speech
The world over, artists unite
Writing down our opinions
Thus pushing our luck!
Riding a wave
Like an internet surfer
Pointing out my view
Come on get closer
Speaking my mind
Not using tact
Getting into trouble
Not cleaning up my act
And I am pushing out the boat
And pushing my luck
I am screaming
You are dreaming
I am writing
So frightening
Thunder and lightning
Pushing my luck!
Got a problem
On your chest
Getting it off
Trying to be the best
Am I insulting?
No just truthful
Am I for real?
Read and see
Am I staying?
For eternity!
I am pushing on the pus
And pushing my luck
Don’t criticize
You will pay
The fascists
We will get in their way
The ignorant
Won’t and can’t read
I am laying down the line
And waiting to bleed!
I am screaming
Dreaming my dreams
I am shouting
I wrangling with writing
Fishing for something
Tasting freedom
Welcome new kingdom
Pushing out the boat
And pushing my luck.
You should not be scared to say the truth
You have the right to a point of view
Truthful be, pleasant you see
No one can trample on these words
Wrapped in thought and tied with proof
Pushing my luck by telling the truth.
And in this modern era
Free speech has never been clearer
United we stand
Against all atrocities
Sharpening our pencils
Liberté, égalité, fraternité
I will be still screaming
And you are dreaming
Of doing things my way
And I am still

Widmung:
This book is dedicated as always to my lucky charm Elisa.
I also would like to dedicate this book to all the people who believe in freedom of speech, maybe pushing their luck with their ideas and art, nobody should die for what they say, nobody should die for a difference of an opinion.
