CHAPTER ONE

John was not very happy; his parents had just informed him that the whole family would be spending part of the Easter holidays with his grandparents on their plot. John loved his grandparents dearly but there were a few problems that were making him so unhappy. First of all, the school was having a computer gaming competition during the week his parents wanted to be away. John was one of the best gamers in the under twelve division and he stood a good chance of winning the prize money, which would allow him to buy the newest war game that had just been released.

Secondly, his grandparents did not have an internet connection and had only one decent television receiver, which meant that John had no chance of playing online or even just using his gaming consol. What was he going do for a whole six days? His only consolation was that his dad had said he could take his bike. But that would mean he would have to spend time making sure his sister, who was painful at the best of times, did not fall off her bike or get lost or do any of the silly things little sisters tended to do.

John had tried to persuade his mother that he should stay at his friend Jason’s house for the week, but
