"This can't happen!" I scream as I slam my bedroom door.
"This isn't your choice!" my dad yells from the other side of my door.
I open the door. "I thought you loved Mom," I hiss in his face.
"I do but I have to move on," he whispers.
I shut the door again and turn my music on. I jump onto my bed and start crying. I grab my backpack and pull out my cigarettes. I lite one and open my window. I got half way down my cigarette when I hear a voice under me. I look down to see my best friend Kyle McCasslin climbing the tree by my window.
"What are you doing here?" I squeak, "If dad sees you here, then he'll kill you!"
"I had to see you," he says while climbing through my window.
The last time my dad talked to Kyle was when Kyle brought me home drunk from a party. Dad almost killed him then and there for letting me drink. Now I'm not allowed to hang out with Kyle except for when we are at school. But if it was up to my dad then we wouldn't even hang out at school. But Kyle was only trying to be a friend. And he is the best friend a girl can have, especially since my mom died. My mom died two years ago and I became really depressed since then. When Kyle brought me home that night was like a wake-up call for my dad and he stopped me drinking. But since I just turned eighteen he can't stop me from smoking.
"Jewels, what are you doing?" he asks.
"What does it look like, Kyle?" I say sarcastically.
"You don't have to be so mean. Anyways are you ready for school tomorrow?" he asks.
