About the Author
Sun set in the horizon, creating multiple colours that take your breath away. As the ocean make waves after wave as it splash against the nearby rock. On the near offshore, seagulls fly around making noise and some incubating their eggs on their nest. The wind blows slowly just a breeze.
She sat there, on the rock, overlooking the ocean and the sun set. She got fascinated by creation of sun rays colour during the evening; every chance she got, she’ll come to this specific spot to look at sun set. Every time she’s here she put the world behind her and let the spirit of peacefulness come to her. For her, this place was meditating spot to release the frustration she’s had during the day, and the people who treat her like trash. Once in her life she was girl every person likes and adores but it changed dramatically without herself noticing it.
Now she’s a girl who pleases every man that comes with big fat wallet to her, to support her needs. The thought of pleasing every man, tears came out from her eye not even making noise of crying but they just come out from the pain she was feeling and the pain was not going to go away if she didn’t stop what she was doing for her life.
She stood up and come down from the rock; took off her shoes and start walking in soft sand of the beach. The sand tickled her underneath her feet. She’s five ft. six tall, blonde hair and thirty five years old, having body of a model and most people die to have her body that’s what people said to compliment her. Never took their compliments seriously just saying thank you in return.
The wind blow her hair to her face as she walk toward to the end of the beach to the street, she tuck her hair behind her ears. Stopped and look back to the Camps Bay Beach, Cape Town had beautiful beach where people can come enjoy it. Putting her shoes on and fixes dress to look neatly to people who were walking on the street.
Glancing at her watch, six o’clock in the evening, her mind alarmed her that she’s going to be late for the dinner she was having with one of her client. Not clients, literally. Just one of those people you have one night with them and bond is formed for life. She hurry up to her apartment to change, she found herself happy of meeting him.
At her apartment she showered quickly and got dressed time not on her side. She wore her favourite dress, black that reach her knees and high heel that make her little taller that her height. Mascara on her eye lashes, red lipstick on her lips; they look inviting and kissable. Her hair touched her shoulder covering her gold earrings.
She admires herself on the full length mirror, satisfied and a smile creep out from the corner of her mouth. Open the door peek in and closed it back. Going to her bedroom, to her night stand, she looks for something and not finding it. Looking around the round, and thought for moment where she put it; and remembered. On the middle of her collective books, just pull it up without looking at it.
Taking her car keys and checks the invite card on her bag, and it was there. She walks to the door before she walk out she turn look around the apartment like she was saying goodbye and she never seeing the place again. After being satisfy was she saw, she turns off the light and walk out. She locks the door.
Just turning around, few steps she stood at the door she always do. Knocking twice and the door open, like she was waiting for her to knock. Both woman grins to each other. Without exchange of words, she gave her the keys and walk away.
At Grand Hotel full with business people from various industries, businesses, associations and people who came to network with other business people on their field. Men were wearing black suit, white T-shirt and black ties as for woman wearing their elegant dresses that exposing a leg, entwining their hand with their partners. Some came alone, they didn’t have anyone to come with or they prefer being alone to do business without spouse or girlfriends.
She walk to the room like business woman with confidence, chin high and to be taken seriously. As she walk around most men were lusting her with their eye, even the married one because of being looking good. Not seeing the person looking for when she look around, she turn to liquor bar and saw the person she was look for. She recognizes him by his broad shoulder, not even him turned to her direction. Walking slowly like she was modelling until reaching the bar.
Pulling a chair back next him and sat down. "Are you going to start drinking without me?” without looking at him. She lifts her hand to get attention of the barman. “I’ll have martini.” He walk away to get the drink.
"You know, I will not enjoy myself without your presence.” He said, not looking at her. “This is my first drink since I have arrived here, to this boring gathering.”
“You’re business man. This things are for you guy who want get rich than you are now. If you enjoy the money, you need to suffer this network gathering you having here.” He laughs turning and look her. He scans her from head to toe. She blushed.
"You take a man’s breath away, the way you look tonight.”
"How are about you?”
“I’m among them,” he said. “But for me I got a free pass to talk and dine with you.” Barman arrives with her drink and winked at me. She return the gesture to please him, he laugh and walk away. She sips her martini. “You’ll make the poor barman not to sleep tonight.”
“He starts it.” She said. “So, how many people have you met?” She said turning to look at him for the first time. He’s black, bald and five ft. six tall like me but that now I’m wearing high heels and I’m taller than him. Broad shoulders like she said before, round face and moustache on the upper lip, and he was good looking too. I never once look at him as black person but a person who’s like me leaving in the same planet.
“I’ve not met anyone who’s interested in shipment.” He took a sip of the whiskey. “But if anyone who interested to do business with me, he’ll come to my office.”
“You must network to grow your business.” She said.
“Not everything it’s about business, you know that.” He turn look at the crowd and continues, “Look at them,” she turn and look. “You’ll say that they are happy to see each other but no, there are enemies ready to strike someone’s company. They are pretending to like each other but I’m telling you, they hate each other.” He said.
“So you mean business is a ruthless game like politics?”
“Yes. Do you see that guy wearing a hat?” Pointing him out and she nodded. “He came here to take over somebody’s company; he’ll never go home without taking something with him. I hate him that son of bitch.” He said with drip of venom on the last sentence.
“Did he come to you and offer to buy you out?” He nodded.
“I said go to hell,” He said. “He went so furious because I said no, and he went to buy this small company to calm himself down.”
It’s been an hour sitting on the bar enjoying they’re drinks and the conversation was good as she expected. The party it was starting to die down because there were less people that an hour ago chatting to each other. The barman constant throws a wink at her when he serves their drink until he was told that he was wasting time on winking on her. But he’ll not give up until it was annoying, so they decided to have their dinner on the sky live restaurant on the top of the hotel.
“Why you brought briefcase?”
“I came from the office, so drove straight here. I didn’t want to go home and come here, it will be wasting time.” He said.
“How is your wife?” She always made sure to ask him about his wife to remind herself that he’s married, and she also knew that the subject of wife it was off the table every time they have dinner.
“She is doing well,” He said. “Still a doctor working, hard like me.” When he said that she knew that he didn’t like the idea of his wife working on the same hospital with the person he hated. Still not understand where the hatred comes from. He had never told her about the reason.
“What are you going to have?” She changed the subject and look at the menu.
“I will be ready on Saturday”
“You better be,” She said amused. “And you know disappointments, are not tolerated.”
“I know,” Laughing.
The waiter came and took their orders. Within fifteen minutes he came back with their food and serves them they didn’t talk for several minute only the knife and forks making noise between them. She always liked this moment when she was with him, silence between them. Eating under the stars was good feeling with music playing in the background. They ate in silence without any of two uttering any word but he decided to break the silence. "I'm thinking of divorcing her,” he said. “And marry you.”
She almost spilled the food on her mouth. It was not the news she was waiting for or thinking about it at this moment. If he had asked her five years ago, she would have jumped for joy until she reach the moon but now it was not going to happen. He doesn’t know her like the way he thinks he knows her.
“What? You can’t! What are you going to tell your children of leaving the mother to marry white women?” An excuse, “I don’t want to be in the middle of that.”
“You know how I feel about you and it will not change. I know that you told me it’s not good idea but you can’t deny what we have. It’s special.”
“I can’t deny what we have is special but I can’t right now. I have lot of things to deal with or correct in my life and I would like to deal with it alone.” She said another excuse. “Do you remember what happen in Japan? And you don’t want that to happen again because of the feelings we have for each. And you’re married.”
“You know what, I’ll give a minute I have to shake someone hand in the bathroom.” He stood up and walk away from the table to the elevator. She looks at him get inside the elevator and it closes the door. So many thought were going to her mind right now.
Three table away a man stood up who watched them intensively during their dinner, now that he left her alone he walk to her and stood in front. His shadow covers the table so she looks up thinking it is her date but someone she didn’t want to see forever. "What to do you want?” she didn’t beat around the bushes, get straight to the point. The man got taken back about her attitude.
“I thought it will be our date today.”
“I told you I don’t want to see you anymore. And don’t get near me again.” She said sternly.
“Are you saying, I spend my money on you and now you toss me away?” He asks. Glances on the elevator and the man did something.
“What do you have against him?”
“Nothing,” The man said. “Does he know what you do for leaving?”
“That’s none of your business.” she said, glanced to the elevator. “Could you please leave me alone? Or I will call the cops for stalking.” She added. The man smirks and not intending to leave her alone. He looks at the elevator and sat down.
“If you call the police what are going to say to them. What accusation will you lay against me? They will ask those types of questions, you know that. Will you spill the beans and everyone in this community to know what kind of woman you are?” He leans back on the chair and put the smirk again in his face. If people knew what she did for leaving, she’ll be disgrace in the community and people wouldn’t look at her as the same now.
“You know what! I will go tell the police and I’ll be a shame but you… you will lose something that is very important to you, and when people found out what really a snake you are.” She said. “You and me we are done.”
“We’re not done until I say so.” He said. “After lover boy is gone I want to see you, and don’t think of running away from me because I’ll found you.” she flinches in his tone, it felt real threat that has made her to stop their affair while lasted. He stood up and walk away from her table. She could let him ruin her date. She remembered that she brought her diary that she had kept on her bag, she have been writing her thought about the first day she meet him. So last night she decided to give him the diary and read what she wrote about him. She took his briefcase quickly and opens it, she even knew the password of the briefcase and put the dairy quickly and close, and places the case down again.
The elevator opens and he come out, walk to the table and sat down. "So, did you have time to think of what I said early?” he took a sip of his drink. She didn’t even think about what he said because of that bastard, she glance around saw him three tables away and lifted a glass and smirk too. "I thought about,” And again on the direction of the man. “Why don’t we finish this confession in my apartment?” she holds his hand.7
“Okay.” he said eagerly and gulps his drink in one motion. He paid the bill and they walk to the elevator, it open and they walk in, and closes. The man also paid his bill and stoop in hurry went to the elevator and press first floor button, and waited to open but it was taking so long, so he decided to take the stairs.
She left her car behind and drove his to the apartment. The man she left in the restaurant didn’t know where she leaved. She opens the door and turn on the light, and James followed. “Why are your eye red?” she asks, his eye were red and he was not feeling well suddenly. During the drive he was having headache and dizzy too.
“I’m feeling dizzy and have a migraine or its headache,” He said walking to the couch and sat down. “Could you turn off the light, please?” she turns them off, and she heard of him falling down, she turn them again and he was fallen down. She rushes to him.
“Hey, woke up.” She kneels down and shook him. “Wake up!” she shook him again but he didn’t move. But his heart was beating slowly. James phone rang in his pocket and took it out. On the caller ID, his wife name.
“Hello,” She said, “I’m sorry James can’t come to the phone, he’s busy with something.” She ended the call and it was the first time she had word with his wife. Never before, she had done that. Even several times his phone rang while he was in bathroom, she never answers it.
“I think he will not hear you even if you scream at his face or even shook him.” She didn’t even need to turn and look at the person at the door because she knew who was standing there. “He is in consciousness.” He added.
She turns and looks at him with a furious face. “I should have known. What did you do to him?” she shouted. “I told you, i don’t want to see you again, don’t you understand. Get it through to your skull.”
He locks the door. “I told you, I’m not done with you. I’ll say it when I’m done but for now I’m not done,” he walks toward her. “So shall we do this?” He said pulling out brown envelop on his jacket and throw it on the coffee table. She look at the brown envelop with disguise. His phone rang and took it out, looking at the caller ID and frown. He ignores it and put it back to his pocket.
“Get the fuck out!” she stood up. “I’ll scream if you don’t go out or call the police.” She walk to the phone, he pull out a gun and clock it.
“If I was for you I’ll not do that.” She looks at the gun shocked. “We don’t have a relationship between you and me, so stop whatever thoughts you have about me.” She said.
“But him, you gave him the opportunity to be your ‘boyfriend’ but why not me.” He said. “He took some something that belongs to me…” she didn’t know what to do now because she was going to be killed and never see tomorrow. I hope I’ll be known to the community as a woman who lived her life to the fullest not by the things she did to get a living. Anne Bond, I’m an Escort.
About Four A.m. in the morning. Police cars and Ambulance were pulling over in Flamingo Apartments Block. People came out from their Apartments to see what’s happening. She could feel her heart beating to her ears, afraid to open the door to see what’s happening outside her door or opposite her. Prayed to God that it was not what she was thinking and the sound she heard coming from that door it was not the one she was thinking about. Hearing the voice of the police outside her apartment door she didn’t dare open the door. She sat on the couch waiting.
On a hallway, Police had tape Anne door with yellow crime scene tape. Police march in and out to Anne apartment gathering evidence. Outside, a BMW car with blue light siren, ringing on of it pulls over next to a Police van and two s step out from the car and went to the entrance of the building. A Police officer standing allows them to pass.
“What’s going on?” Detective Andre spoke first, tall, white and with Afrikaans accent when he speaks and with moustache in his upper lip. Detective Andre he thought himself the best in his field since he joined the Police force twenty years ago. He was unmarried and forty years old, and he still use his charmed younger look to attract woman to his bed.
“We’ve a dead girl Apartment 40.” The Police Officer said without any hint of politeness. Detective Andre and his partner walk in and got to an elevator to Apartment forty. The elevator rings mention to them that they have arrived to their floor and open the door. The hallway was packed with Police Officers who were busy doing their duty, they walk to the Apartment and went to the crime scene in the bedroom. The site scene was horrifying in any Police Officer who was inside the room because the victim lay on a bed with two bullets on the chest and the blood soaked the sheets but Detective Andre couldn’t see the victim face clearly because the hair on the face.
“Who’s in charge?” Detective Andre asks looking around the Officers in the room.
“It’s me.” An Officer said, coming behind them from the bedroom door.
“What can you tell me about the victim?” Detective Andre asks, he pulled his white plating gloves and put them on walking close to the victim. The Officer flips the notepad on his hand to read the information he wrote.
“Her name is Anne Bond…” the moment he heard the name, it sound familiar to and he moved to the victim’s head, and move the hair on her face and he nearly fainted but composed himself quickly. “…Occupation none, no living relative that we know off and she have been shot two times on her chest and we didn’t find the murder weapon.”
“Have nobody seen anything.” Detective Zodwa asks. She’s a Black Officer, tall, beautiful with tom boy body, and a good damn female cop in the Police station.
“Nobody seen anything but the receptionist saw Anne with a black guy holding to her like he was drunk or something. By the looks of it, he was tall, mid-thirties and successful too…”
“Does he know who it is?” Detective Andre cut before he can continue.
“I was heading there, and you can’t believe who it was.” He stood up and looks the Officer.
“Who?!”
“James Khumalo, the owner of the shipment company.” Detective Andre got shocked and surprise at the same time. So many questions were running to his head but why did James kill Anne in cold blooded.
“I think she was shot in close rage,” Detective Zodwa said, examining the body, “Did you find the bullets? I think they went straight through her.” She turn the body little bit and it was true the bullets went through her, “And I think where can we found the bullets.”
“Where?!” Detective Andre and Officer said in unison.
“You must take the bed as part of the evidence because I think they stuck inside the mattress.” She keeps amazing Detective Andre every time they come to murder scene she’ll be the first one to see the evidence.
“I think I’m getting rusty but you’re good,” Detective Andre said, and to the Officer. “Have you called the Homicide team?”
“Yes, they’ll be here any moment.” In that moment the team arrive with their toys to examine the body.
“You’re in charge now, and tell Greg from the morgue that I’m expecting fully pathological report when I come back in my desk.” Inside he was burning with the desire to put James to a hole that he’ll never see the light again.
“Yes sir,”
“And strip the Apartment apart, and if you find anything call me or give it to my secretary.” The Officer nodded, and he and Detective Zodwa walk leaving the scene behind. On the hallway Detective Zodwa said.
“Do you think he did it?” She asks.
“I hope not but if he did it, I’m going to arrest his sorry ass and put it to jail.” The elevator opens and they walk in, “Do you?”
“I don’t know,” she hesitated for moment and continues “I think a love affair may have gone wrong or she was going to spill the beans to his wife and kill her for that.” And, she added. “Or if she told his wife about the affair, he’ll lose everything including that big mansion he leaves in.” with sarcasm. The elevator opens its doors, and walk out.
They didn’t even notice that the sun has come out and it was greeting them. Detective Andre was hoping that she did leave something behind that will connect him and her. The morning paper will going to get crazy about the story and even a Community will be shocked about the news.
NICK, 15, rode his bike with a goofy smile in his face. Every morning of weekend it was Nick’s duty to deliver New Paper on the door steps of Eden Community. He will make sure that the people inside the house get their paper before the dog get it bury it, in the back yard. But today he didn’t know he carried News that will change the community in his bag. In few door step men with frown and look around that nobody was not looking at them and take dog job hid the paper. It was the job Nick was entrusted to do. But today Nick knocks at the door of Khumalo residence several times and nobody answered the door. So he decided to leave the paper at the door hoping they don’t have dog. He broke one of his vital codes of delivery and left.
Only the headache made him to open his eyes and groin in pain. The scent of lavender hit his nostrils and immediately knew where he was. James sat up on the bed and his foot hit the floor. Every step he took to the balcony it was pain full but he had too because he wanted fresh air. Inhaling fresh few time to calm his headache but made it worse. Turning around walking to the direction of the bathroom, opening a medical cabinet and took bottle of Aspirins and pop one tablet in mouth. And drink from the basin tap. He look at himself on mirror, eyes were red and dry blood on his noise. He touches his nose, blood crispy dried on his nose and his thoughts went running what happen to his nose.
“Honey, what happen to your shirt? It had blood all over it.” James jump little hearing his wife voice.
“I think my nose was bleeding and I don’t remember how it happened.” He washes his face on the basil and wipe with clothes. “And I have this huge headache that doesn’t want to stop.”
“Where were you last night?”
“I told you I was in that stupid business networking.” She places a hand in his fore-head.
“Your head is not burning up.”
“Who told you guys by just place your hand in someone forehead…”
“I’m a doctor,” she smiles to him and return it. “And I have something important to tell you.” she circle her hands on his neck.
“You’re leaving the hospital,” Marry frown.
“I’m sorry. So what so important that need my attention? I hope it’s not Jr smoking weed again in…”
“What? Jr! Is smoking weed?” For him it was amusing seeing his wife shock face.
“Why are you amused about? Our son smokes weed in the house.” She added.
“Listen, honey, I’ve talked with him and he promised not to smoke again.” He kisses her on the cheek and walk to the bedroom. “And don’t ask him that I told you about this because I promise not tell you.” He spoke as she followed behind.
“But if I found him smoking in the house, I’m going make him smoke bag weed at once.” He knew that his wife was determined when she said something.
Inside the walk in closet, James got dress and Marry lean against the door folding her hands. “So what the thing you wanted to tell me?”
“I’m going to tell you on the breakfast table.” She wake away and he was wondering what she was going to tell him. James tried to remember and recall after the party or Anne apartment. He didn’t know what happen while in Anne Apartment.
On breakfast table, Jr avoided his mother eyes that kept looking at him with scold. He knew something was up and glancing at Nhlanhla, his sister for any clue but she focused on her breakfast.
“Dad, you came home late last night you and didn’t even park the car in the garage.” Jr said, trying to avoid his mother stares.
“I was too tired to park it. Do you want to park it?” Jr’s face lit up and excitement came over him.
“Dad, Jr doesn’t even know how to drive, he’ll crash your mustang.” Nhlanhla said she was trying to provoke her brother.
“Dad, she lying and i turn eighteen next month.”
“Until then, you’ll not get the car.” Marry said. James thought he made a mistake to tell her about Jr smoking habit.
“You said you wanted tell me something or us.” James changes the subject of Jr getting to drive the car.
“Yes, I have something to say and its big new for us as family,” She said smiling. Everybody look at her waiting for news she want to say.
“Pause for moment mom, I’m going to answer the door.” Nhlanhla stood up went to the door, and she pauses.
Detective Andre stood in front door of Khumalo residence with a warrant of arrest on his hand. He is a man who involves work and personal issues at same. Not different between the two. At the end he was great cop in his police station. Next to him, Detective Zodwa stood.
“They have not read the morning paper,” Bending down and took Newspaper and look at the headlines. “The murder case made front page.”
Nhlanhla opens the door and found herself stared by police. “Good morning, I’m Detective André and this is Detective Zodwa, and is your father home?” Detective Andre said.
“Yes, he is home.”
“Could you please call him out?”
“Dad, the police want to see you.” she shouted and her voice can be heard throughout the house, and James comes to the door followed by Jr and Lucia.
“Officers, what can I do for you?” he asks.
“We want you to follow us to the station.” Detective Andre said politely or he didn’t want to arrest him in front of his family.
“Why would I do that?”
“I don’t want to do this in front of you family, Mr Khumalo.”
“Do what?” James was making it difficult for Detective Andre, as he thought.
“Mr Khumalo, you’re under arrest for the murder of Anne bond.” James face went pale when heard her name.
“What?” Not even hearing himself saying it those words? “She’s dead!” Everybody in the room went dead silence.
“Mr Khumalo, could you please come with us?” Detective Andre repeated again but James could not hear him like his body went frozen until he came to reality.
“Okay.” He walk out, he can hear Nhlanhla calling his name in tears and sobs too. Before got in the back of the car he look at his wife and what he saw it scare him, she stood the frozen, pale and on the edge of fainting. And at the same time he saw some emotions he didn’t understand at her face. James got in the car and the officers got in too and drove from his drive way. Many thoughts were going to his mind, and the biggest one was Anne Bond was dead, a companion through his rough time, friend and woman he loved is dead. And who shared something beautiful with her.
Marry still frozen on the floor like she had grown roots underneath her feet but it was not that, it was the shock that made her to stand still not moving. The words keep ringing in her head; you’re arrested for murder. When she woke up in the morning she thought that her family will be happy about the news that she was caring on her chest but now it turn to a night mare that she didn’t want to wake up from. She was pregnant, the father was going to prison for murder.
“Mom, what are we going to do?” Nhlanhla voice brought her from the dream land to reality that the family facing.
“Jr, call Jake and tell him what going on." Jr. went to the phone and calls the family lawyer.
“Mom,” she can see her mother was still shock; took her hand and led her to the couch to sit down. She wipes the tears on her face.
“What is going to happen to dad?” she asks.
“I don’t know.” Jr comes back with the phone in hand.
“Mom, Jake wants to talk to you.” Jr said. He handed the phone to his mother and sat next to his sister, and hold hands.
“Hello, Jake.” Jake’s voice come to the line.
“Marry; I’m going to see him now. You need to stay strong and don’t answer any phone calls that come from the media until come to the house after I found out what happen.” He said.
“Okay, I’ll do that.” She felt her voice to be unrecognizable tone.
“Okay, bye. I’ll stop by later.” The line went dead before she can respond back to him.
It broke Jr heart seeing his mother crying in front of him and sister, he stood up and went to next his mother and hugs her, and Nhlanhla join in. They all sobbed in each other arm’s like someone in the family is dead but it was not the case of someone is dead. The father, husband was being charged with murder.
James sat interrogation room with a table and two chairs that were opposite to each other, and the light turned on. He paced around like a mad man not knowing what he was going to do. His mind went to the one word that the officers said to him. Murder! Anne Bond was murdered, and they thought it was him. He was not even sure that he did it or not, his mind went the blood in his clothe that his wife said this morning. His thoughts were cut, when the two officers walk in the room with files in their hands, and they were thick as he look at them.
“Mr Khumalo, could you sit down?” Detective Andre said as James recall when he introduce himself during the drive to the police station. He sat down and Detective Andre sat opposite him while Detective Zodwa lean against the wall and fold her hands.
“Did you kill, Anne Bond?” He did beat around the bushes, straight to the questions.
“I didn’t kill her, and I didn’t know she was dead before you broke the news to me twenty minute ago.” He said
“When did you last saw, Anne Bond, Mr Khumalo?”
“I last seen Anne last night at the function I invited her.” Trying so hard to remember but there was not much to remember, his head still fuzzy.
“What’s the relationship between you and Anne?” Detective Zodwa asks at the corner while glaring at him with murder eyes.
“It was friendship relationship nothing else.”
“How long have you known Anne?” Detective Andre said, while opening the file. “And what do you know about her?” he added.
“I’ve known Anne for five years now, and I know that she work as receptionist on some company,” the officers look at each other.
“I don’t know anything about her personal life because she never told me about her life, the subject was off limit.”
“What company did she work for?”
“I don’t know, she never told me.”
“What happen after the function?” Detective Zodwa jumps in again now moving close to the table so she can be seen.
“We decided to leave the function and went to have diner in the grand hotel after that we went to her apartment, and I don’t remember what happen after that.” He said.
“What do you mean you don’t remember?”
“When I woke up this morning I found myself in my bedroom and with heavy headache.” He could not remember what happen during his visit to Anne apartment. Detective Andre was going to ask another question when Jake burst inside the interrogation room with his briefcase. Jake was little taller than him, clean face and his best friend and the most important a damn good lawyer.
“James, don’t say anything further.” Detective Andre went furious when see Jake standing there.
“Jake, you can’t just burst in here without knocking,” Knowing each other. “You don’t have right to do that.”
“Detective Andre, this is my client and I want him released if you’ve not charge him.” Jake didn’t answer him about not knocking.
“Okay, now you are here, Mr Fantastic. I’m charging James Khumalo for capable manslaughter of Anne Bond. Do you want me to read your right?” Detective Andre smirks at Jake.
“No, don’t.” James said.
“Can I have moment with my client, alone?”
“You’ll need a moment to save him but this one is going to prison.” The officers walk out from the interrogation room.
“That bastard!” He sat down and opens his briefcase; he took out a note pad and pen. “He always has thing for me for getting my client out jail.”
“I didn’t do it, Jake.” He didn’t want to discuss his issues with the Detective.“I believe you, James. You’ll not kill a woman who you’re fond with.” He knew about. “So what happen?”
“There truth is, I don’t even know what really happen. I don’t remember after we left the Grand Hotel restaurant and went to her apartment.” James said. Jake could not understand what he was saying to him.
“What do you mean by; I don’t remember?” Jake asks.
“I was in her apartment and the next thing I woke up in the house with massive headache and blood running in my nose.” James said, and continues. “And my clothes have blood too, that Marry said to me this morning.” The thought of the blood to be Anne cross his mind and James saw that. “Now you’re thinking the blood in my clothes belong to Anne not my nose.” He question Jake but He didn’t answer. “Me too, that thought just cross my mind.”
“I heard she was shot twice in the chest,” James face got angrier of the person doing thing to Anne.
“Hey, calm down. And the landlord said he saw you going with Anne to her apartment, twenty minute later he heard two shots after five minute you came out with blood on your clothe and drove off.” He felt he’s going to faint in that moment but he seated still with ball fist.
“So it means I’m screwed.” At least she was not there to witness it all. “What should I tell the Marry?”
“Just tell her the truth that I’m innocent and tell my PR issues the same statement to the media. I think I’m going to be here for long time.” If he doesn’t remember quickly he’ll be here for long time and even convicted for murder. “As for the kids, don’t tell them in detail of the case but Marry you must tell her everything.”
“Okay, I’ll do that.” He stood up and button suit. “I’ll do everything to get you out here.”
“I know.” James pauses for moment, heaved and spoke. “I need you to do something for me,” Jake look at him waiting. “I want you to collect something and don’t let anybody see you, opposite, Anne Apartment door.” Jake didn’t turn, just stood there. He walks out, now James wanders alone in the police station facing charges of murder. If everybody found out, between Him and Anne they will think he murdered her, and he was screwed.
Detective Andre walks in his office furious with Jake’s appearance and slam the door in Detective Zodwa face. He was so angry that he was not thinking clearly. He sat down behind his desk to calm
