As the topic goes health and environment, we can see that two subtopics are involved. Health is one while environment is another in this article I will be giving more explanation on health, environment, how toanage the environment, what are the things that can cause damage to us and how to stop them.
Health is define according to Oxford dictionary as
(i) the condition of a person body or mind
(ii) the state of being physically and mentally healthy
(iii) the work of providing medical services
(iv) how successful something is.
These are the four definition of health given by the Oxford dictionary. Health is very paramount to all humans and we need tk take care of it and know more about it.
Environment on the other hand is defined according to Oxford dictionary as the condition that affects the behavior and development of somebody /something ;the physical condition that somebody/something exist in. From that definition we can see that environment plays a great role in our life conditions. Health and other conditions are been affected and influenced by the envrionment we stay in.
I have done some series of research and I have confirmed it that the environment we live affect our health positively or negatively.
What is health and environment?
Health has we have seen in the first chapter is the physical and mental state of been healthy. Health is something we need to take very serious if we want to be successful and live long in life. As the saying goes 'health is wealth' and 'a healthy mind is a wealthy mind'. Looking at the definition we can deduce that health comprises of two states of a human which is the physical samtate and the mental state.
The physical state of health of a man is when he can do all physical activities done by his fellow men. The physical health of a man is usually affected by sickness and huge damage to the skin, flesh, muscle and bone. Sickness deprives the physical activities that is usually done by the man some of them are eating, walking, having bath, and many others. This activites will be put to stop when the man is sick. Some of the name of sickness are flu, malaria, typhoid fever, hiv/aids, diabetes and many others. We should also note that serious health problems can also affect both voluntary and involuntary activities done by man, some sickness lead a man to comma or even death when not properly taken care off.
Mental state of heath of a man is involving the use of the brain. Emotions and many others brain activites are classified under this state of health. The mental state need to be properly taken care of because mostly of our physical activities are carried out by the help of our brain and other nervous system.
Environment is another thing we need to look at, the word environment plays a great impact on health and this is what we need to put in check when talking about health. Our environment must always be in a good shape if we want to keep a good and healthy mind and body. Pollution and other things affecting the environment negatively must be considered. Maki g the environment clean can make you healthy and make sickness run away from you, although we canmot avoid sickness fully due to self developing sickness but we can maximize the development of sickness in our body.
How can environment affect health
Environment affect us positively and negatively. Our environment determines how healthy we are. Neatness and cleanliness in respect to our environment boost our health status. A dirty environment encourages sickness and vectors. This disease causing organism and their carriers (vectors) impart our health life negatively. They make us sick and limit our ability to carry out activities of life when we choose not to maintain cleanliness.
Many environmental health workers, microbiologist and medical professionals support the fact that environment where living organism stay must be neat to avoid sickness and disease.
Positive ways environment affect health
Thete are any positive ways the environment itself can affect your health status. Some of the ways are.
1. Planting / aforestation:- panting of crops and trees give great benefits to thd people and animals living in thd environment. Plant and trees provide oxygen and also purify our atmosphere against some poisonous has affecting our ozone layer. The planting of crops and trees prevent erosion and flooding in such areas. Provision of fruit is also another great benefit to both humans and animals because it provide vitamins and nutrients needed by the body.
2. Protection from ultra-violent rays:- we scientist recommend the planet earth as the only planet that accommodate life due to the ability to absorb ultra violent rays been produced by the sun. The ozone layer is responsible for this and we can also say that this is one of the greatest benefits that the Supreme being has given to us. I regard it as one of the greatest positive ways environment affect our health, without the ozone layer, the earth will not be able to accommodate life and we living organism will not be able to survive.
Negative ways environment affect health
These negative ways are mainly caused by both biotic and abiotic factors. Some negative ways can be reversed while some cannot be reversed. They are
1. Disease causing organism:- these organism cannot be hindered fr not surviving in our environment due to the fact that they serves as the 'life starters' for science and researchers. We can actually maximize the actions of these organism by ensuring that we follow all protocols been put in place when there is an outbreak of disease and also ensure general neatness.
2. Vectors:- They grow and reproduce in dirty and to their taste environment. Most vector like mosquitoes and house fly grow in bushy, dirty and water logged environment. This vector are also living organism that they live with us that is they are biotic factors in our environment, but, most times they cause sickness to us and make our health status show a red sign when not been controlled.
3. Abiotic factors:- they are some factors that play both positive and negative factors. They are known as the abiotic factors which are temperature, wind, sunlight, rainfall and the others. This factor creates some negative impact just like when there is a too much increase in temperature, headaches and other complicationed disorders will spring up thereby creating an avenue for some diseases causing organism to grow. The impact of these factors must not be neglected but most important thing is that we cannot control and stop this impact.
Let me say something here that biotic and abiotic factors affect the environment positively and negatively. The facts are been cleared in this topic. Most biotic factored like predators, vectors, parasites impact negative effects on the environment while plant, animal and humans with some good and beneficial microorganisms impact both positive and negative effect to it..
The building of big industries that produce both sound, water, air and land pollution affect our health thereby making us sick and unhealthy. The facts about the environment remains clears to us that all improvement to the environment comes with a negative and positive to the environment. My extensive research proves this fact.
GOOD AND HEALTHLY LIFESTYLE
Our lifestyle affect our health. According to research, 80-95% of our people health in this world is been affected by lifestyle. Our lifestyle needs to be watched if we want to live and become healthy everytime.
Exercise:- exercise is one thing/habit that we need to add to our lifestyle if we want to live an healthy life. This make our bones and muscles stronger and healthier. It manages our stress level by reducing it and improves our brain activites and smartness.
Eating balanced diet:- eating balanced diet fod make our body stronger by supplying the amount of nutrients our body needs. Carbohydrates and other classes of food needs to be included in our diet because any deficiency of these classes of food and their nutrients can cause diseases.
Drinking water:- drinking of water has also been recommended of you want to life a healthy lifestyle. Water replenishes the body and aids most of the characteristics of living things been carried out, infact drinking of war water every morning very early, according to researchers and scientists has been tested and proven as a great method of living a healthy lifestyle. Most times the warm water clears aways junks in our body system and also aids our bowels.
Avoid pressuring situations :- try and avoid pressuring situations that can bring much problems to your emotional and mental health as fast as you can. If you try not to aviod it, it can affect your emotional and mental health. We should learn that all pressuring situations that can be avoided should be avoided inorder to live a great and healthy lifestyle.
Meditating:- this is a way of managing stress. Meditation is classified in so many forms by the founders. Breathing, yoga, Taichi and many among others are various ways of meditating. You can use the form you think is good for you to manage your stress and keep your health healthy.
Sleeping:- try getting the required amount of sleep that your body needs. A normal human being need to sleep for atleast eight hours at most. Too much js not good and too less is dangerous, so try and maintain a good sleeping style if you want to live a healthy life. This booast the activitieness of the brain and keep your body healthy. Sleep makes your body relax from all what it has gone through and make your body feel lighter and healthier.
Regular checkup:- researchers has proven that regular checkup helps to discover sickness early and also helps in preventing sickness and body disorders illness. Getting medical regular checkup makes your body healthier by discovering diseases faster and also make recovering process easier without having doing much damages to the body.
Aviod self medications :- when you are feeling sick or unhealthy, please learn to visit a medical pratitional or a doctor. Self medication is not advisable because it can cause more damage been done by the sickness. Learn to aviod self medication and visit your doctor if you gave any complain about your health.
Cleaning your environment :- neatness and cleanliness of your environment increase life span and healthy life. Burning of refuse, cleaning of room and other personal hygiene tips must be properly carried out if you want to live an healthy life.
MAINTAINING GOOD ENVIRONMENT.
Maintaining good environment is another thing we need to look at. Our environment must look good and clean always inorder to ensure good and healthy life. Most of our environment are not clean enough and that is why you see developing of diseases and sickness everyday. Although, sickness development cannot be hindered according to research but can be maximize into a stage that people will not be affected in a large scale.
Good, clean and neat environment can kill/disinfect at least 80% of pathogenic microorganisms in our society and this can garantee a good and healthy life. Media call, it is been proved that a polluted environment/unhygienic environment can kill and make one sick if not taken care off. Diseases like tuberculosis, cholera, malaria and the rest can spread in an area that is well taken care off.
We all know that there is te and season for everything that happening in the world i.e there is time for development of new diseases and the spread of it, but we can manage this by ensuring that we take sole steps to prevent this from happening in a very large scale and becoming uncontrollable. There are some of the steps I can recommend in maintaining good environment.
Clearing of bushes:- this can help reduce the spread of some vectors like malaria causing vectors. The process is very effective because not only chasing away vectors alone but reduces the reproduction of predators like reptiles and the others are harmful to our health.
Draining stagnant water:- this should also be ensured it is carried out to live healthy. Drinage system and development of gulters should be made to facilitate and implicate this activities as this reduces the reproduction of some harmful vectors.
Aviod any form of pollution:- this is one of the major things affecting our environment. 40-70% of self occurring disease are brought to life by the help of this pollution. Air, water and land pollution must be avoided and heavy santions must be put in place so that anybody that go contrary agaist the law should be punished. There was a time lagos state which is in Nigeria ensured this process and that is why lagos state has atleast 50-70% of its areas neat and clean, not only lagos state in Nigeria ensured this but other countries all over the world. Creation of so many environmental agencies and laws must be put in place, heavy santions and tax should be laid out on companies that exhaust heavy and dangerous gas to the atmosphere. Aforestation must be encouraged inorder to make our atmosphere purifiered. Dumping of refuse in water bodies and in land should be avoided. This can also make our environment to be neat and also ensure good health among us.
Education:- educating people on personal hygines and maintaining good health can also help. Most people are ignorant of this and they make a lot of mistake by polluting our environment. Environmental agencies and bodies should try their best to educate the citizens on how to maintain good environment and the benefits they enjoy when they maintain good environment.
Establishment of medical and health centers:- the government should try and establish more medical and health centers for the use of the public as this would help discover diseases faster and also aids fast treatment or management of disease. This would also aids enlightenment of the public to how maintaining good and neat environment can be of great value to them. to educate the citizens on how to maintain good environment and the benefits they enjoy when they maintain good environment.
