Chapter 1: New town, New People.
First day in a new town going to a new school, very exciting, I am taking my sister to school due to the fact that she is 15 and can’t legally drive yet. Has that stopped her? No. She drives any time she gets the chance to, but my dad decided that we didn’t need to get a ticket our first week in town, so I have to drive her. My brother on the other hand is 17 as am I. Well we’re not really 17. We are actually 25, born in 1981, but since we are werewolves and have the gene in us, we still look like we are 17.Aaron could have drove Cameron, but he didn’t want her to "cramp his style", as he put it. Aaron can be a little rude sometimes but when he wants to he can be very loyal and caring. I wouldn’t consider my family "rich" but we all have very nice cars. My mom is the head journalist for a huge magazine, and then my dad is a carpenter. So all-in-all we have it pretty well. I don’t really like the look of the old muscle cars so my parents bought me a 2007 Chevy Corvette. My brother on the other hand builds cars and he refurbished a 1969 Ford Mustang, and it’s pretty sweet for an older model. We live about 10 miles away from Fox Hill High, and personally I wanted to walk to school but dad wouldn’t let me because it’s usually a long hike for humans. My dad, Aaron and I are full werewolves, the gene passed down from his dad and so on. We are different from the story book werewolves; we don’t need a full moon to phase. My mom and sister are half-werewolves. My mom gets the gene from her father, but the gene doesn’t pass fully to females, so they can’t phase. They just don’t age like the rest of us. It really works out to, despite the fact that every 3 or 4 years we have to move. My family just moved from Virginia to Oregon , and I’m beginning to believe that I can deal with it.
We are about 5 miles outside of the town when my mom calls. I ask Cameron to turn the radio down and pick up, “Hi mom." "Hi Damian, I was just calling to make sure you guys were grabbed everything you needed for school." "Yeah mom, we have all the supplies, map of the school, all we are missing is our schedules which we will get when we get to school.” "Ok Damian, I was just making sure. How is your sister? Tell her I said that it is ok to be nervous; just don’t let it get to you." "Yeah mom, she says she isn’t really nervous at all, it will all be fine mom." "Ok mom, no worries, we’ve done this enough to know how it works. Everything will be perfect, but I got to go we are pulling into the school parking lot." "Ok I love you Damian. Tell Cameron and Aaron I love them to." "Ok mom. Bye." "Bye." We pull into the school parking lot, and I’m having second thoughts about whether I should have brought my car or Cameron’s.
Everyone in the parking lot is staring at us. I pull into the open space next to Aaron and quickly comb my hair. Cameron chuckles under her breath. "What’s so funny Cameron?" "Nothing is funny Damian. Nothing at all...” And she starts laughing again. I nudge her arm and hop out. "Hey Aaron wait up.” Cameron and I hurry up to Aaron and go into the school. We walk around till we find the main office and get our schedule. “Cameron do you want us to walk you to class?" "No Damian I have it under control but thanks anyway." "No problems meet me at my car by 2:30, and if you’re not there then you’ll have to walk home. Ok?" "Yeah I’ll be there bye." "So Aaron what’s your schedule?" "Well I have English, science, math, lunch, gym, and then social studies. What do you have?" "Well I have math, social studies, English, lunch, gym, and then science. So this year we have 1 class together, fine by me." "Yeah I get enough of you at home. One class is enough." RING! "See you later Aaron." I run down the hall till I find room 133 the math classroom. I slip in right as she calls my name for attendance. "Mr. Damian Wolfe?" "Here" "Ah Mr. Wolfe I hope you don’t make becoming tardy a regular thing." "Sorry I had to make sure my sister found her class. It won’t happen again." "Very well Mr. Wolfe. Please take your seat." And with that she points to an empty seat in the back of the classroom. I hurry over and sit down. The rest of the class slowly drags on. I got called on one time throughout the whole hour. I was praying that the rest of the day would go by a little quicker. The bell rung and everyone hurried out of the classroom. I found my locker and to my surprise I had to share a locker. I was thinking great I get to share a locker with a jock. How wrong I was. When my "locker-mate" came he was just a little bit preppy. He reminded me of Aaron. He had black spiky hair, he was wearing some baggy jeans with a black rocker shirt, and he was kind of pale. He opened our locker and there were pictures of skateboarders and of famous rock groups. I was thinking this is really cool he is a skateboarder and so am I. So I walked over and cleared my throat. The guy spun around and said in a voice that sounded like he was annoyed "Yes?" "Hi I’m Damian. I just moved here from Virginia and apparently we are sharing a locker." I stuck my hand out and he shook it. "Hi my name is Derrick. Sorry if I sounded kind of rude just people are kind of annoying me today." "Oh it’s cool. So do you skate?" "Yeah, why do you?" "Actually my brother and I both do. Maybe we could skate with you sometime." "Yeah that would be cool. But I got to go. Peace." "Yeah, bye." Well that didn’t go as bad as it could have.
I looked at the clock and there was 2 minutes left till class, so I went and found room 215 social studies. I went in and gave the teacher the slip and he pointed me to a desk that was 3 seats away from the last row. I sat down and got out my book. The bell rang and the teacher shut the door. As he was calling roll a girl came in and apologized for being tardy. There was something about her that made it so my eyes couldn’t look away. Finally she glanced over and saw me. I quickly forced my attention back to the front of the room. I couldn’t help but glance at her again. She looked at me and smiled. I smiled back and then the teacher called on me. "Mr. Wolfe, the answer?" "I’m sorry what the question was?" "Next time Mr. Wolfe please pay attention." "Yes sir." The girl gave a very faint chuckle, "Rebeckah that means you to." Rebeckah, so that was her name. “Sorry Mr. Walker it won’t happen again." She looked at me and whispered sorry then looked back at the teacher. There was something about her that kept me thinking of her. Was it her pale skin? Her blonde hair? Or was it her crystal blue eyes? Whatever it was she was on my mind till the bell rung. I got up and walked out of the room, and there she was waiting for me. "Sorry about that. I didn’t mean to get you in trouble." "It’s cool. No harm no foul." "I’m Rebeckah. Rebeckah Smith." She stuck her hand out and I gladly shook it. “Hi I’m Damian. Damian Wolfe." "Wolfe? That’s a strange last name. No offense." "None taken I get that a lot. You kind of look like the guy I share a locker with. His name is Derrick." "Yes I do suppose I would look like him. He is my brother." "Oh that’s cool. He seemed like a nice guy." "Yeah he is, but I have to go or I’m going to be late. I’ll see you later Damian." "Yeah see you later Rebeckah." I went to English and I have to say it was the most boring out of the classes I have had. The teacher had this really monotone voice that made sure nothing could get you excited. Finally the bell rang and everyone went to the cafeteria.
I met up with Aaron and Cameron right before getting in line. "So Cameron how has your day been so far," "Actually Damian it’s been good. In 1st hour I met this girl and she was very nice and kind, I’m sitting with her at lunch." "Well that’s awesome Cameron. How was your day Aaron?" "My day has been very boring and dry. I can’t wait to get home so I can skate." "Oh that reminds me my locker-mate is a pretty cool dude and he skateboards. I thought we could eat lunch with him." "Yeah that sounds cool D." So we go through the line and as we are paying Rebeckah walks up. "Hey Cameron, Are you planning to eat lunch with me? We could always make room for your brothers." "Yeah Rebeckah that sounds fine, Aaron, Damian meet..." "Rebeckah Smith." "Oh so you already know her Damian?" "Yeah she got me in a little bit of trouble in social studies." "Oh I soooo did not get you in trouble you got me in trouble. You were the one that was staring at me. Not the other way around." "I was not staring I was looking around the room and noticed you looking at me." "Whatever. So are you guys eating with us or not?" "I will. What about you Damian because I know Cameron will?" "Yeah that would be great."
We follow Rebeckah over to her lunch table and I see her brother. "What’s up Derrick? This is my brother Aaron." "Hi Damian, hi Aaron; Are you guys eating with us?" "Yeah if it’s cool with you." "I’m fine with it. So Aaron can you can skate?" "Yeah I was the second best skater in Virginia, right behind Damian." "Oh that’s really cool." Aaron and Derrick start talking about skateboarding, and it seems that Rebeckah understood everything they said. She looks up and smiles at me. I start to say something but then her brother looks in her direction. She quickly looks away and starts to eat. I don’t know if that was a warning glance or what but for the rest of the lunch period Rebeckah’s eyes never leave her tray. The bell rings and we all get up and start heading for class.
I have gym next with Aaron, so I’m kind of looking forward to it. In gym we are playing basketball. Me and Aaron partner up and start shooting baskets. Everyone else is looking at us like we are from another planet. I really could care less though, and I’m guessing Aaron feels the same way because he was in a chipper mood all through class. We go change back into our regular clothes and wait by the door till the bell rings. “So Aaron are you going to skate with Derrick after school?" "Yeah he knows where this awesome skate park is and we’re going there right after school. You can come if you want." "Nah I have too much stuff to do. But thanks anyways." "No problem." The bell rings and it’s time for the last class of the day. I go to room 157 and give the teacher the slip. This time I have to sit at the first lab table in the left corner of the room. This is great right up front, I truly despise sitting in the front. I get called on more in the front. For the rest of the class I am barely paying attention to the teacher. My mind is more focused on Rebeckah. Why did her brother give her that look at lunch? Was it because of me or Aaron? Or was it a family thing? Whatever it was it was weird.
The bell rings and I go wait by my car for Cameron. Finally she comes out and guess who is walking with her, Rebeckah. "Hey Damian I was wondering if you could drop me and Rebeckah off at the mall." "Yeah that would be fine Cam ." "Ok thanks, Rebeckah do you want front seat?" "Yeah that would be fine Cameron, as long as it’s ok with Damian." "Go ahead Rebeckah. I don’t really care as long as we can leave soon." "Ok and thanks for driving us there Damian. That’s really sweet." "It’s fine by me." I pull out of the parking lot and start heading for the mall. It’s a pretty quiet ride. I turned on the radio and Cameron and Rebeckah start singing to every song that comes on. Rebeckah has an amazing voice. I was just listening when Cameron hollered, "Damian you just missed the turn." "Geez Cameron calm down. I’m sorry I was just distracted." Rebeckah laughs a little bit as I turn around. "Don’t worry Damian; Rebeckah said her mom can take me home." "Ok I wasn’t worrying. That takes some stress off of me. Thank you Rebeckah." "It’s really no problem Damian. My mom will adore Cameron." "Yeah cause who doesn’t adore an annoying little sister." "Hey! I am not annoying. I’m just a little outspoken." "I know Cameron. I was just kidding around. Do you have a car Rebeckah?" "Yeah I do it’s just that I rode to school with Derrick today and I didn’t want to ask him. I hope that’s ok." "Yeah that was fine. Anytime you need a ride you can just call me." "Ok thank you Damian." "Hey was your brother ok today at lunch?" "Yeah he was fine. Why do you ask?" "Well it’s just I saw him give you a look so I was just wondering." "Oh you saw that. Yeah he’s fine he’s just a little over protective. He doesn’t want me to get hurt." "Why is he being over protective? I didn’t see anything today that would give him a reason to be like that." "Well to be completely honest he was being over protective because of you. He saw how you looked at me and how I looked at you and I don’t know I guess he thinks something." "Well like I said if you ever need anything you can just call me. Do you have a cell phone?" "Yeah, what’s your number I will put it in. "314-588-0162 you can call anytime. I get up really early, but I stay up kind of late so yeah." "Thank you very much Damian. You ready to go Cameron?" "Yeah I’m ready. See you later Damian." “Bye." I turn the car around and start to head home, when all of a sudden my phone rings. I turn the radio down and answer, “Hello?" "Hi Damian, are you going home? Why don’t you come in?" "Who is this?" "It’s Rebeckah. Come inside. They have a skate park. Please?" "You really want me to come in?" "Well no I don’t want you to, but uh Cameron really wants you to come in." "Well then tell Cameron that I have to go home and unpack boxes." "Oh ok I will tell her. I guess I’ll talk to you later Damian. Bye." “See ya." By now I am about 6 miles from my house. I’m going to go into the woods and explore in my wolf form.
I pull in the driveway and notice neither of my parents cars are there. Oh well that just means we get to refrain from the "how was school questions." I go through the garage and get bottled water from the fridge. My room is in the basement. Not because my parents don’t like me I requested that room. I like my privacy. I hurry down the steps and turn on the light. My room is covered with boxes ceiling high. I decide that I’m going to put away my stuff before going out. It doesn’t really take that long when you’re jamming to your favorite music. I get done in about 40 minutes. I pull out my werewolf cover up or W.C.U. for short and throw it on. When werewolves phase we keep none of our clothes so when we turn back to our human form we are naked. Our special scientists decided something had to be done so they made the W.C.U. Now when we phase back to our human form we aren’t naked. I finish my water and hurry out of the basement door. I head towards the woods and in a flash I go from being human to a black wolf. Most fairytales say that werewolves are huge and walk on hind legs, those stories are completely bogus. When we phase we are just a little bit bigger than a normal wolf. Another cool thing is when we are in wolf forms we can still communicate with our "pack". I run through the woods catching every little movement from the forest around. It’s so different than just walking through the woods. You can hear every little sound, smell every different odor, and see even the smallest details.
I’m 3 miles away from our house when I hear a high pitched noise. I guess my dad’s home. When we go out in our wolf form, if our family needs us our dad just whistles. It’s amazing the sounds you can hear. I turn around and start heading home. I catch sight of my mom and quickly phase back. "Damian it’s time to come in dinner is ready." "Ok mom just let me change and I will be right up." I run through the door and change into a casual outfit. When I make it upstairs everyone is there including Rebeckah. "Hey Damian I hope you don’t mind I invited Rebeckah over for dinner." "Oh it’s no problem Cameron. Did you guys enjoy yourselves?" "Yeah we had a blast me and Cameron went in every store. I got a new outfit and a CD that I have been wanting. How was your day?" "It was pretty boring. I finished straightening up my room then I went on a short hike." "Oh that sounds fun." "Oh yeah it was a blast." We finish dinner and Rebeckah calls her mom to come pick her up. While we are waiting for her mom Cameron gives Rebeckah a tour of the house. I go downstairs to finish my homework but it’s a little difficult when a girl that you like is upstairs hanging out with your family. Finally I hear Rebeckah’s mom pull up. Rebeckah tells everyone bye then comes down stairs. She gently knocks on my door, "Damian?" "Hey Rebeckah." "Hey I just came down to say goodnight. Thanks for having me over." "No problem Rebeckah anytime." "Ok well I guess I will see you at school tomorrow." "Hold on I will walk you out." "Oh you don’t have to." "Your right I don’t, but I want to." I slide my shoes on and lead her out the back door. I walk over to the passenger side and open the door for her. "Thank you Damian." "Anytime Rebeckah." Instead of getting in she just looks at me. I stare into her crystal blue eyes and without thinking I kiss her. It last for about a minute then I pull away. "I’m sorry Rebeckah I should not have done that." Instead of saying anything she kisses me again. This time the only thing that broke the kiss was the sound of the front door opening. Rebeckah blushes and quickly gets in the car. "Goodnight Rebeckah." And with that I shut the door.
I go back into the house and look at the time. Its 9:30. I go down stairs and grab my phone off of my nightstand. Searching through my contacts I find Rebeckah`s name. Trying to decide whether or not I should call, I hear my brother holler for me. I hurry up the stairs and walk to Aaron’s room. If I thought my room was messy then Aaron’s would be considered a junk yard. He has no boxes in his room but his stuff is all over the floor. "Aaron don’t you think you should at least make a path from your bed to the door?" "No my room is fine for now. Lets go." "Go where? Every store in town is probably closed." "I don’t want to go to a store I want to go on a hike. Are you coming or not?" "Yeah I’ll go. I just have to go get my W.C.U." "Ok I’ll come down stairs with you. We can go out the back door." We run down stairs and I quickly thrown my W.C.U. on. When I get outside there are 2 brown wolves wrestling. I phase into my wolf form and join in the fight. "Aaron you didn’t tell me dad was coming. Now it will take us twice as long just to make it to the river." The darker of the brown wolves gives a low growl. "Oh come on Dad you know I’m just messing with you." "And who says I’m mad? I’m just warning you to watch before I do get mad." "Ok you two let’s get going, unless you guys want to sit here and chat the night away." And with that being stated we all dart off. Each of us has a certain talent. I am the fastest and by a little the strongest, Dad is the most skilled fighter (but only from experience), and Aaron well we a still trying to figure out his skill. We make it to the river in 10 minutes. While Aaron and Dad get a drink I look at the mountain. It’s about 5 miles away, but it looks huge. "Dad, look at the mountain." The dark wolf glances up from the river. "No Damian, we need to get home." "But dad cant we stay out a little longer?" "No Aaron, it’s late enough. I’m sorry; we will go out again in a couple days. Now let’s go." Something’s not right. Usually dad will let us stay out for hours at a time. The darker wolf starts running towards the house. Aaron and I follow after, but before the mountain is out of view I turn and look at it once more. In 15 minutes we are back at the house. I quickly phase back and go in through the basement door. I take off the W.C.U. and throw on some boxers and a shirt. I climb into bed, but before falling asleep I check my phone. 0 missed calls. I let out a little sigh then roll over. I cut out the light and within 5 minutes I’m dreaming.
Chapter 2: Just a Dream
"Aaron, wait stop!" It’s no use, the faster I run the farther away he gets. I try with all my might to catch up to him, when all of a sudden he stops dead in his tracks. Its takes no time at all to realize why, 10 feet away from Aaron is the most hideous creature imaginable. It’s got the head of an eagle, wings of a dragon, a fox’s body, and a huge tail covered in spikes. Aaron tries retreating a little from the beast but it keeps coming towards him. I am almost to them when something catches my eye. I look over to where the light came from. It’s Rebeckah; she is imprisoned in a cage the size of a small shed. I release a low whine then look back towards the beast. He is still following Aaron. "Aaron, you have to get away from him. There is no way that we can beat him." "I’m trying, but there is no way out unless I want to be squashed. What is this?" "I don’t know Aaron but you have to get away now!" The beast lets out a horrible scream. Aaron whines and stops retreating. "Aaron get out of there!" He doesn’t even glance at me. He is staring at the monster as if he can’t look away. The monster advances on Aaron, but instead of retreating Aaron continues to stare at it. I hear a scream and turn towards the cage. Coming out of the woods is another beast, and he is heading towards Rebeckah. I start towards the cage but, then I remember Aaron. If I don’t help Aaron but save Rebeckah, Aaron will die. But if I don’t help Rebeckah and save Aaron, Rebeckah will die. Looking back and forth from Rebeckah to Aaron, I figure if I hurry I can save both. I start running towards the cage. I am 5 feet away when I hear Aaron scream in pain. The beast had Aaron in his hands and was squeezing him to death. The beast that was near Rebeckah’s cage returned back to the forest... I run towards Aaron but they keep getting farther and farther away. "Aaron fight back. Please Aaron do something." Aaron is screaming from the pain. I try harder and harder to reach him, but they’re gone. “Aaron please come back." Its no use, the hideous beast has killed my brother. The beast lets out a horrifying laugh and throws Aaron away like he’s trash. He is starting towards me; I turn and run to Rebeckah. Instead of being happy someone can save her she starts hollering at me, telling me to leave her alone. I try to understand why and I remember I’m in wolf form. The only way to save her is to show her the real me, Damian the werewolf. I think for a quick second and decide it’s not worth her dying to keep a secret, so I turn back to my human self. "Damian? What... What is going on? What are you?" "Rebeckah I’m..." and then the beast that went back into the woods picks up Rebeckah from her cage and starts strangling her as it did Aaron.”Rebeckah!"
Something started beeping I look around trying to recognize the noise and realize I’m dreaming, it’s just a dream. I wake up sweating and panting. Looking at my alarm clock I see its 4 o’clock. I shut off the annoying alarm and get up. "At least it was just a dream." I grab my clothes and go upstairs to take a shower, but before I get to the bathroom though I check on Aaron. I can hear him snoring from outside the door. I let out a sigh of relief and get in the shower. 15 minutes later feeling fully awake and relaxed I get dressed and go to wake up Cameron and Aaron. I knock on Cameron's door and quietly say, "Cameron are you up?" "Yeah Damian I’m up, getting dressed be out in 5." "Ok just making sure." "Thanks." I proceed to Aaron's room and he is still snoring. I open the door and walk over to him. He doesn’t even budge. I walk to the end of the bed and jump on him. "Wake up Aaron!" "Damian what the hell? Did you have to do that?" "You shouldn’t still be sleeping, get up you’re going to be late to school." I get off of him and he sits up, "I’m going to get you back Damian." "Yeah sure you are how many times have you said that?" I chuckle and leave the room. Walking towards the kitchen, I hear that everyone is up. Mom is cooking breakfast, Cameron is making the table, and Dad is sitting in a chair reading the newspaper with his morning cup of coffee. I go to the fridge and grab bottled water. "Cameron who are you going to school with? If you are going with me I’m leaving now. “Why are you leaving so early Damian?" Dad looks up from his paper," Damian stay away from that mountain. I don’t want you 10 miles from it understand?" “Yes sir I’m not going there though, if you guys must know I’m going to the library."I`ll go to school with Aaron, give you time to study or whatever you are doing." "Ok, see you guys later." I walked over gave my mom a kiss on the cheek and gave my dad a hug. I went down stairs grabbed my W.C.U. just in case and went out the basement door. I got to my car when my cell phone went off, it was a text. "Hey Damian are you up?" It was Rebeckah; I quickly hit reply and told her I was. I turned on the ignition and pulled out of the drive way. 2 minutes later I got another text from Rebeckah "Are you going to be at school today?" Instead of texting back I called her; I had to hear her voice. The phone only rang twice before she picked up, "Hey Damian." "Hey Rebeckah, how was your evening?" I secretly wondered if she was going to ignore the fact we kissed or not, my thought was answered quickly, "Before or after we kissed?" My spirit lightened up and I quickly responded, "After." "It was good; I couldn’t fall asleep for a while." "Ha I couldn’t either; hey do you want to go get some coffee or something before school?" I really didn’t like coffee that much but I was dying to see her. "Well I don’t really like coffee." I chuckled a little, "What’s so funny Damian?" "Well to be truthful I really don’t like coffee either, I just wanted to come pick you up and hang out a little before school." I held my breath waiting for a response, "Oh ok well you can come pick me up if you want to, I don’t mind. You should’ve just said so." She laughed a little; her laugh was so light and sweet, "Ok I’ll be there in 5 minutes." You live 15 miles from me, how are you going to be here in 5?" "Well again to be truthful I was already on my way to your house, I thought you would like to come, I hope that’s ok." "Yeah that’s fine; I'll see you when you get here. Bye Damian." "See ya." I guess the thought never occurred to Rebeckah that I didn’t know where she lived. Lucky for me all I needed to know what subdivision she lived in, she had a certain scent or aroma that was hard to miss. I pulled onto her street and saw her sitting on the porch of the fifth house.
I pull in and she stood up collecting her things, she looks beautiful today, as she does every day. I get out walk to her side and open the door, "Good morning Rebeckah." "Good morning Damian." She slides in and I shut the door. "Thank you Damian." "Anytime Rebeckah." I pulled out of the drive way and go down the street. "So where are we going?" I think and realize I really don’t know what there is to do in this town, "I don’t know we have an hour before school. Where do you want to go?" "Well I, I really don’t know." She looked down and blushed, she was nervous, why I don’t know. That didn’t bother me though; I thought for a second and then remembered the river. It was beautiful and calming, I thought she would love it. "Ok I got a place." "Where are we going Damian?" "It’s a surprise but I’m sure you'll love it." The river was about 8 miles from Rebeckah's house. It’s a pretty quiet ride, minus the radio. Rebeckah seems tired and doesn’t talk that much, but I take no offense to it, I mean we have known each other for a day and a morning. I pull over into the trees and park the car, "Damian this is just the woods, are we going to sit here?" I chuckle, "No we have to walk a little to get there, and I hope you don’t mind." "No its fine." I get out and open her door for her, and help her out of the car. "Have you always been like this Damian?" "Like what?" "Gentlemen like this, opening car doors helping me out?" "Yeah a little I picked it up from my dad; it’s sort of become a habit now." She laughs and starts walking; her laugh is beautiful, so innocent and sweet. I follow behind her into the forest, glad that she didn’t where flip flops. "Damian where are we going? Are we going deep into the woods?" "Why are you scared to be out here? I'd protect you from anything Rebeckah, and we only have to walk about 5 minutes." "I'm not afraid I was just curious." She looks at me and I stare into her blue eyes, so deep so beautiful. She laughs and starts walking again. I get the bag out of the car, then run and catch up and grab her hand, hoping I’m not going too fast. She doesn’t seem to mind though so I’m not worried at all. The forest is amazing, and with the added presence of Rebeckah it seems perfect. Not that much of a distance left between us and the river, I cover Rebeckah’s eyes. "Is this really necessary Damian?" "Trust me Rebeckah." "I do." I lead her through the last of the trees and uncover her eyes. "Oh Damian, it’s beautiful." We're standing a little higher than the river on an overlook. The water is so still, just the currents moving it. With the sun on it, the water is sparkling, as bright as Rebeckah's eyes. "Yeah, you are." She looks at me, confusion yet happiness is written across her face. I unzip the bag and pull out a blanket. Setting it down on the rock, I sit down and find peace. Rebeckah seems to be in a trance with the beauty of the river, eyes never leaving it. She is too beautiful, making me feel as if I am dreaming; I pinched myself to make sure I wasn’t. When I realized I wasn’t, I was still in awe. I reached back in my bag and grabbed a camera, standing up I take a picture of the river. Rebeckah is looking at me, "May I?" She looks confused so I hold up the camera, her cheeks turn pink, "Sure I guess." I take a picture of her against the river, "Beautiful." She blushes again, "Damian this has to be the best view in the world, the river, the cliffs, the sun, and you here with me." She looks away, embarrassed I’m sure, but the statement she said is exactly what I’m thinking except she is the main focus. "Rebeckah, about the other day, I want to apologize, I reacted wrong and I’m sorry." She walks over to me, wraps her arms around me, "Damian, I wouldn’t go back and change it if I could, and I hope you feel the same." I lift her chin with my finger and look into her eyes, "Rebeckah I wouldn’t change it at all." She looks at me, like she’s staring into my soul, I kiss her, passionately and she returns it. We sat on the blanket, are hands entwined, "So Damian, are we together? Or is it a different kind of relationship?" "Rebeckah, I would love to be with you." She lays her head on my chest, and we sit there enjoying the view and each other. I glance at my watch, sighing as I see the time. "What’s wrong Damian?" I show her my watch and she see the time, “I guess we have to go?" I stood up and looked at her, reaching out my hand I answer, “Unfortunately yes, if you want I have time to run you by your house so you can get your car." I’m praying inside my head that she doesn’t want to, so I will have more time with her, "If it's fine I will just ride to school with you." I pull her over and kiss her forehead, "That’s fine with me.” I packed my stuff, as Rebeckah was having 1 last look of the river. I threw the backpack over my shoulder and walked over to Rebeckah," Are you ready to go?" She sighed softly, but loud enough for me hear, "Yeah, lets go." We walked hand in hand back to my car; I walked over to the passenger side and help her in. School usually isn’t something I looked forward to, but I was fine and happy knowing Rebeckah and I were together. It took 10 minutes for us to go to school, it wasn’t as long as I wanted it to be, but being with Rebeckah was enough. We got to school and I pulled in a parking space, I walked over to the passenger side and opened the door for her. “I loved the lake Damian , and I loved being able to see it with you.” She wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed me,” Thank you.” I smiled at her and look into her beautiful eyes, “anytime Rebeckah”, I kissed her again and we walked into school hand in hand. “Rebeckah, what is your schedule?” “Well I have English, social studies with you, math, science, and then gym.” “Well then, may I walk you to English?” She smiled, “I’d love that.” We walked to her class, “Thank you again Damian for being such a gentleman,” she kissed me on my cheek, “I’ll see you later.” My eyes followed her as she walked through the English room door. I spun away from the room and started walking to my locker; I wasn’t paying much attention and ran into Derrick, “Hey sorry Derrick I guess I wasn’t paying attention, my fault.” He glared at me and walked away, but his mood didn’t disturb me, I felt as though I was floating on clouds. I opened my locker and got my math book, barely making it to my seat on time I pull out my notes and pretend to be focusing on the lesson.
The first half of school passed rather quickly and before I knew, it was lunch time. I walked to meet Rebeckah at the lunch line, but when I arrived there I couldn’t find her. I walked around looking and when I walked around the corner of the vending machine I heard whispering. Listening I heard Rebeckah’s voice. With my “special” hearing I also heard Derrick’s voice and from what I could tell he was pissed. I know it’s wrong to ease drop, but Rebeckah sounded like she was about to cry. So instead of doing the right thing and walking the other direction, I stayed and listened. “Rebeckah, I told you yesterday you can’t be with him. You can’t be with any human! It’s not safe! Do you even care about the safety of our family? What if he found out what we are? Do you think he will like the fact that the lips he kisses are lips that also suck blood? I don’t think so, and besides that it’s just not safe for him.” “Derrick, I love him! There is no way that I could not; he stole my heart if I even have one. You wouldn’t understand, your heart is as cold as our skin to humans.” Vampire? My Rebeckah a vampire? It was impossible; there was no way that she could be. “Rebeckah, do what you want, if you want to date the human date him, but if you jeopardize our safety, no more.” I couldn’t take it anymore, I had to get away, go somewhere. It was just too much to think about, to harsh of a reality. Walking in the other direction I started thinking that maybe it could be true. I was planning on leaving and just going home, but as I was walking out the door Rebeckah came over. “Hey Damian, where are you going; are we going to eat lunch or are you leaving?” Her eyes were so innocent; looking into them I almost forgot the conversation. “Well I was going to go home, but I won’t if you don’t want me to.” I choked the words out, hard to say them because to me it just wasn’t fair. In the same breath I was hiding something wasn’t I? I mean I hadn’t told her I was a werewolf, but how can you just say that? There really isn’t a way to is there? “What ever you want to do Damian, if you want to go to your house we can.” I grabbed her hand and we started walking to the door, “Rebeckah I have to show you something, will you come with me?” She chuckled lightly, “Of course I will Damian, where are we going?” Opening the passenger side door I answer, “Back to the river.” I walk around and open the trunk, grabbing my W.C.U. and hop in. If the drive to school was quiet, the ride to the river was dead silence, no radio and no talking, just thinking. When we pull into the side road I shut the ignition off and grab Rebeckah’s hand. Looking into her eyes I get lost, “Rebeckah what ever happens know that I love you, and yes I know we haven’t known each other that long at all but I truly do love you.” I release her hand and get out, walking ahead of her I can’t believe that I’m actually about to do this, to show her my families secret, to show her the real me. Rebeckah catches up and grabs my hand, “Are you ok Damian?” Sighing I told her to just remember what I said earlier, “Everything is fine.” We walked through the clearing and walked to the spot we sat earlier, “Will you wait here for a second please? And will you promise me that no matter what you see that if you run away you won’t tell anyone what you see and you’ll just forget about this, about me?” “Damian, I promise that I won’t tell anyone but I won’t forget about you. What is this about?” “Stay here, I’ll show you.” I walked into the woods, but before I went in all the way I turned around and just looked at her again. “I love you Damian.” I walked the rest of the way and put my W.C.U. on; before I went out I thought once more about what I was doing and decided it was for the best. I might be jeopardizing the whole reality of my kinds existence, but people do stupid things for love right? With that final thought I phased and standing in my place was now not the Damian everyone knew, it was Damian the werewolf. Nausea swept over me, but I swallowed my stomach and walked a few steps, but before I was out of the woods completely I saw that Rebeckah was still in the same spot that I left her in. Walking out the rest of the way, head down, I heard a sharp inhale. I looked up at Rebeckah; she was terrified, “Back! Back! Damian, help me!” I looked down at the ground, Rebeckah was still screaming but I tuned it out, with a final thought I phased back into my human form. “D-D-D-Damian? That wolf thing was you? You’re a . . . a werewolf?” I looked up and met her eyes, “Rebeckah, I couldn’t keep this from you. I had to tell you, its one of the most important things about me.”
