To my friends, family, and professors
who supported me on my journey as an
aspiring writer.
INTRODUCTION:
Inspired by the 2016 election and the Trump administration, I wanted to write a poem that primarily focuses on hypocrisy and dishonesty whether it’s for political, social, or personal means. Can apply to anyone, basically.
Pretty Words Can't Save Ya
Get off your high horse,
you goddamn fool!
Preaching
like you have all the answers
to the world.
Ignorant fools
applaud
as you boast your way
up high,
trusting your word
like it’s the most obvious
truth out there.
Paint that pretty picture,
make me your villain.
Watch as your lies crumble
by tweets and posts
hundreds will read
a war between words
unmask the dirty
little bastard
hiding nothing
but the real truth.
INTRODUCTION:
I was often told that I had a really nice skinny body throughout my middle and high school career. Now that I’m almost twenty-two, I get told something entirely different.
"Eres gorda...[1]"
“Metate la panza.[2]”
I don’t want to see your
belly showing in that tight
red dress.
“Ya no comez golosinas.[3]”
It’s not good for you.
You have to eat healthy if you
want to maintain that nice body you once had.
“Los hombres no les gustan a las mujeres gordas.[4]”
