Chater 1

The New Order began when the United States declared martial law at midnight on January 1 , 2016.  Ensted of staying up late to watch the ball drop everyone was hiding in bomb shelters the government had built all over the country. The evacuation started at nine thirty when we found out ISIS was going to go on an air raid. Normaly it wouldn't be such a big deal but this time they had gotten their hands on nuclear weapons and were taking off from Mexico. I remember the military going down my street with a tank and busses gathering everyone from their homes and sometimes forcing people on to the bus. My family was taken to a shelter deep inside Capitol Peak where we waited. It was a few hours after that we found out. It was not ISIS who was threatening us but our own government.

Over the span of a couple months people's lives were changed for better or worse. Everyone that was twenty and older was required to have a microchip implanted in their wrists. The chips contained every bit of information on you and your family in it as well as a tracker. People without a chip received an ID card. Once the tracker was implanted and or received your cards you were allowed to return home, but the people who resisted were taken to camps. While we were gone we found that our two rifles and handgun were gon. All weapons were confiscated from civilians and from then on it was illegal the bear firearms.  It was a week after that the food rationing started and things gradually changed. The schools were taken over, they still taught all the subjects but the teachers  were replaced by ones from the government and students were issued uniforms. Access to things like internet, books, and entertainment  became limited to how hard you worked and how you behaved. If you were an adult and didn't have a job you were given one. Alcohol was restricted and curfews were put in place, seventeen and younger was nine thirty unless their job required them to be late and everyone older was at one a.m.

It may have seemed like things were getting better, the crime rate  was drastically lowered and there wasn't anyone out on the streets or starving.  But the people who were affected the most were students. Poore behaviour and grades reflected badly on your whole family and the new restrictions infuriated  us.  In the high schools, most club activities were shut down. My step  sister who was a freshman, struggled keeping her good grades.  My younger step brother who was in sixth grade had a terrible temper and was in constant trouble.   My grades weren't anything to brag about in the beginning but  I saw the state in which my family was heading and knew that something had to change. So I decided to be my family's support and soon became one of the top students in the school district. This achievement wasn't  without  sacrifice though, because I was so focused on achieving my goal I became a "Teacher's Pet" and turned not only my friends but the student body against me.

This later became part of my plan because the less people wanted me around the less likely someone would figure out what I was doing behind their backs.  A couple weeks into the first month of the New Order I happened to stumble upon a resistance group leader, though that wasn't his position at the time. He was at resistance a meeting and got busted so he ran into a park with a lot of old willows and stopped under the one I was sleeping in.

"Dam their persistents is so annoying" He whispered to himself while trying to catch his breath. It was past curfew and I had been woken up by the patrol cars and had guessed what was going on. As quietly as I could I Climbed down onto the branch right above the boy and whispered in his ear "You know, if you kneel out there in the open you are more noticeable." Startled he jumps up from his crouch and pulls a knife on me and wisper/ yells, "Where did you come from?!"  "The tree, and shut up or we'll both be caught." As if on cue we heard shouting in the opposite direction. "Hurry climb up and do it slowly." I said. It was no use telling him to do it quietly but if he did it slowly at least it would be less noticeable.  He didn't have to be told twice within a minute we were safely hidden near the top of the gigantic old willow.

We wanted for twenty minutes till the search party moved on then we talked. "Who are you and what are you doing out here?" He asked. "I was reading and fell asleep." "And, who are you?" "Isn't it rude to ask for one's name before giving your own? But I don't think you will give me your name and don't I want to know it either. So I will tell you, my name is Maria Candore DeFiamatta." "You are a strange person, why do you not want to know my name?" "Because knowing it would only bring me trouble." "How so?" "You are a rebel aren't you? Or are you just stupid? It is the only reason someone would sturrup this much commotion." "And if I was a rebel what would you do?" "Nothing to do except get home without someone noticing which you have just made more difficult." "You're not going to turn me in?" He sounded astonished. "Why would I do that I would be in trouble as well." "Well if that's the case could you put me up for the night?" "Not a chance." "I could just follow you back to your place, then we both might get caught." At this I paused, was it alright? What if I really did got caught with him? But I can't just leave him. It's hard enough to get back with only one person though. I was about to refuse again when he said," I'll pay you." "Fool it would be suspicious if I was to come up with money out of nowhere."  "What if it was gradual?" The offer was tempting, the behavioral issues were piling up against us and supplies were cut short all the time. "Ok deal." I shook his hand.
