Ch@pter 1

I looked out the window watching the world go by. The seat bounced and I turned to see Devon sitting there looking at me. He was one of my neighbors that use to talk to me on the bus. But ever since I outed my secret people treated me like a disease.

“Can we be friends?” He asked.

I blinked at him wondering what brought this on.

“Sure.” I said hesitantly.

He smiled at me then moved back to sit with his two friends. I looked back out the window shutting out everyone as I got lost in the fast moving greenery. I faintly heard my name being whispered and I turned my head slightly to pick up the conversation. Devon was talking about me with his friends.

“She’s a monster. I wanted to be friends and she snarled at me and said no.”

I frowned,

why was Devon lying to them?

The school bus scratched to a halt and I rose from my seat to get off. As I neared the front I felt my jacket being pulled and looked down to see Devon pulling it then he marked my hand with a pen. I glared at him snatching it away.

“Devon!” I yelled after I realized he was trying to write freak on me.

“Jenny what’s wrong?” The bus driver asked.

I turned to him frowning sadly.

“Nothing I just found this pen.” I said handing it to him before I ran off the bus.

I didn’t want to start trouble. I just wanted to be considered normal again. As I walked through the open garage door I sensed an intruder. I kept the house door open just a crack so I could see my mother’s truck. After a moment two men dressed in black climbed out from under the truck and snuk towards the house. Their faces were covered by black ski masks and they wore black shirts and sweats. I enhanced my hearing to listen in as they crept closer.

“Just get the goods and go. We can’t take her down alone.”

My eyes widened and I closed the door running to the other end of the house where my mother was.

There after me.

I slammed the door opened as I reached the end of the house.

“We have to get out of here there are intruders.”

My mother’s brown eyes snapped up to lock with mine for a second before she moved. She dropped the clothes basket she was carrying and pulled me into the room. From behind me I heard the lock click when she locked the door crating a dead silent room. The only audible sound was the boots pounding down the hall. As soon as she made her way to the “thermostat” in the room I knew she was going to take us down to the lab.

But just as her hand flipped the cover up to show the master lock the door was busted down. Mom pulled back away from the panel so the thermostat cover snapped back down and their attention wasn’t on our escape route. She blocked me from view but my defense programming took over and I stepped in front of her.

“Jenny don’t” She whispered.

I ignored her engaging my power source so my armor would form. A metal head piece framed my face; a breast plate emerged from my skin, then arm, shin, thigh, and back guards. Finally my hair clicked together in needle like dreads. I knew my skin now looked like shinny metal and the guards were coal black.

“So you’re the robot child.” The skinny man said.

“So what if I am?”

“Well then you’re the one we need blood from.”

I glared at him.

Ch@pter 2

Both men took out vials and pulled off the tops to reveal two long needles. I flinched back for a second but then lunged forward because the skinny one was coming after me with the needles. I wanted to keep him as far away from mom as possible. I wasn’t designed to kill only defend so I blocked as many blows as I could to avoid the needles. They were specially designed to penetrate my armor and tap into the veins in my body.I knew they wanted my blood so there experiments with evil androids could continue but they weren’t going to get it.

I struck out shoving the needles into the skinny man’s hand. He yelled back handing me as he collapsed to the floor. The short man who until now had been watching finally took action trying to bury the needles in my arm. I pulled back closing the distance I had build between us and mom. I was forced to take the shot to keep them away. He pierced my arm guard and I screamed at the burning pain flaring up my arm as the short man shoved them in more. Suddenly he was ripped away from me and I looked up to see a blonde boy I didn’t know.

“Jenny!” My mom shouted as I passed out.

I groaned rolling to my side as I got to my feet ready to fight. I heard a grunt from my side and took a defensive position. It was the blonde boy who had saved me. His hair was spiky and glistened with sweat from pounding the short man. I felt dizzy suddenly and collapsed to my knees. I started at the floor ignoring the boy pummeling the man as I was forced to power down my system.

Analysis positive for poison, detected area left arm guard, immune droids dispatched

. My processor told me,

poison?

I thought.

“Jenny, are you ok?” Mom said.

I shook my head no.

“Analysis came back positive for poison.” I said.

Glaring at the needles in my arm and yanked them out. Blood seeped out of the holes.

They didn’t want my blood samples they wanted my whole body.

My mother picked up my arm to examine the green liquid that oozed from the puncture wounds and frowned.

“We need to transfer your plasma now so it can be cleaned.”

I nodded and stumbled over to the master key almost falling. The boy caught me and supported me as I drug myself over to the panel. Flipping the cover up I punched in the code quickly. The floor and wall the key was on shuddered and groaned as it started to spin us around to take us to the lab. My mom placed a hand on my shoulder and I slimed weakly at her. The dark area light up as it flew down eight stories to the lab like an elevator. The blonde boy supporting me suddenly let go and I started to fall so the short silver haired one caught me.

“I’m Toshi and that was Kevin.”

“I’m Jenny.” I responded.

He helped me over to the metal kiosk and into the seat I had pointed to. Mom rushed over to me firing up the kiosk and started messing with my left hand that the needle had struck. I powered up so my left hand transformed into my robot one so she could pop it off. Leaning my head back I closed my eyes so the spots I was seeing would stop floating around. Things to my right crashed and fell over making me open my eyes to see what was going on.

Toshi and Kevin were stuck under boxes and other things staring at me. I looked away knowing they had fallen because they saw my true form. I was a robot, a freak among humans. I felt so sick from the looks they gave me I powered down leaving only my hand in its true form.

“Jenny? Jenifer don’t you dare die on me.”

My lips twitched. “I won’t.” I replied hoarsely.

Someone’s hand touched my forehead and I opened my eyes to see Kevin. He pulled his hand back when I looked at him.

“You have a fever.”

“It will go away in five minutes.”

“Why?” He asked.

“Because the infected blood is being taken from me and fresh blood put in.” I said.

He was staring at me again but it seemed different from last time somehow. I closed my eyes to rest. He grunted and I heard him walk off again. He seemed to have a habit of doing something and then when he was on the verge of opening up he ditched.

“Will she be ok?” Toshi asked my mom.

“I hope so.” She said.

I sighed.

What did they care? No one cares about a robot. There just moving metal.

I withered for a few more hours as the transfusion continued. I went into a hibernation mode in that time and was positive I could feel Kevin checking in on me every few minutes. He was so confusing. Either he cared or he didn’t why was he forcing himself to be almost emotionless? I let the trivial thought go it wasn’t like he was going to stick around long.

Finally after the excruciating transfusion I was ready and up and running on full. I snapped my hand back on checked its functions and started to leave when someone grabbed my hand stopping me. Glancing back I saw Toshi smiling at me.

“Can we talk?” He asked.

“Sure what is it you want to talk about?”

“Kevin.”

I blinked feeling strange. Why Kevin? He smiled turning my shoulders to steer me to the stairs.

Stairs? The lab didn’t have stairs.

“Where are we?”

“At Kevin’s house. It’s like a strong hold for us.”
I said nothing just let my processor scan the area as Toshi steered me through the house and out the back door to a barn.

“So I’m sure you noticed Kevin acting strange.”
“Yes why is that?”

“He hates to get close to girls. He was once in love.”
“Was? What happened?” I asked interested.

“She died.”

I turned to face him eyes wide as I searched for a sign he was lying. My hands covered my mouth, he wasn’t lying. And not only did that explain Kevin’s behavior it meant he liked me in some way or form.

Dropping my hands to my sides I looked at Toshi sadly.

“What happened to her?” I asked.

“He never told me but I know she died in this barn. It use to be her house. He bought it when he turned eighteen.”

I looked around the barn that was well kept except for a part to the south. It was dusty and seemed like a rundown house. I took a step towards it but from the corner of my eye I saw something brown walk by. Immediately I stopped and turn to look at the flash of color. There chewing on a horse treat was a platypus.

“That’s so cute! Where’s my phone?” I squealed.

I had completely forgotten what I had been doing before and started patting my pockets for my phone. It took forever to find it in my jacket and when I did the platypus had disappeared. I frowned as my mind felt foggy and I looked back to the run down part of the barn. I vaguely remembered I was going to look at it but then the platypus stuck its head out and talked.

“If you’re going to go come this way.” It said.

I felt like a puppet as I obeyed and began to follow it. Someone roughly jerked me back when I was about to pass over the threshold. My mind snapped back to reality and glanced back to see Kevin glaring at me.

“That’s where Maria Bocdia haunts, forever stuck where she died.” Toshi said.

Kevin crushed my shoulder as a noise came from the second floor of the house making me look up. A beautiful girl was dressed in a corset dress with her hair all curled like she was going to prom. The only thing that startled me about her was the fact she was a ghost. I took a side long glance at Kevin causing my chest to constrict in pain. He was looking at her so lovingly and she was returning the look.

Returning the look? Was she aware of us?

I forced myself to look away from them. It was making me so sad. I had heard of time riffs and death echoes before. She was in one, stuck forever reliving her death over and over again. And Kevin had to watch. I’ll save her for him, I thought. Just as I did her eyes flickered to mine and she smiled.

“Are you ready?” She said to me.

I blinked wondering what on earth she meant. She turned from me jumping in and out of focus for a second and then walked off to the door I assumed use to lead from her room. Kevin groaned at my side as he traced her every move with his eyes, I looked at him still confused about what Maria said and why she flicked.

Rift detected,

my processor told me just as I saw it open I the door leading from her room. Then at that moment I knew what she meant and I bolted from Kevin heading for the rift.

I’ll save her.

“Jenny wait!” Toshi yelled.

I heard him run after me so I picked up the pace jumping from his out stretched hand at the last second and into the rift.

As my finger tips brushed the rift I screamed. It was destroying my circuitry, destroying me. I screamed again as it sucked me in up to my arms. Someone’s hands wrapped around me and pulled trying to free me from the quicksand like time rift.

“Kevin you’ll get sucked in too!” Toshi yelled.

“Then why don’t you let go of me.” He snapped back.

I couldn’t hear Toshi’s response because my head was pulled in. I stopped screaming and looked around then down at my skin. It looked human and when I tried to get my processor to do a scan I only got my thoughts asking for a scan. After a second I realized I might be human. My whole body had been sucked into the rift, along with Kevin and Toshi. I ran from them only to run into a solid Maria. I looked at her wide eyed.

“Jenny if you meant what you thought there is only one way. You must stop my death yourself. But tinkering with time is dangerous. Are you ready to accept the consequences?”

I deliberated for a moment.

If she lived He probably wouldn’t have saved me. But I could live with that.

Nodding my head I took her out stretched hand and we started to flicker. I looked around and suddenly was afraid when I saw Kevin. He looked torn he was glaring and pleading with Maria and then he would look really sadly and wishfully at me? But then before I could be sure of the second emotion they disappeared.

“Maria they-“

“There there, just ghosts. This is my past. The day Kevin came to school and fell for me.”

“Wait how am I suppose to save you if it’s not the day of your death.”

She said nothing and disappeared. I looked around spotting her outside of a school. She wore a ninja outfit and she was talking to two other girls dressed like ninjas.

Ok this is bizarre.

More kids dressed like ninjas walked past the three girls. I blinked this was getting weirder and weirder as I realized everyone was dressed like a ninja. Not like Naruto but like kimono tops and short shorts. I glanced down at myself and stumbled back I was wearing a black kimono and matching shorts.

A dazzling katana was strapped to my side decorated with black beads and white skulls on the hilt. My fingers ran over it as I shivered from a sudden chill. Glancing up I almost screamed as a translucent Kevin glared down at me trying to grab my wrist. I tried to step back from him feeling afraid of his pricing stare but I couldn’t. It was glaring through me right to my soul, striking me in place. He lifted his hand to try and touch my cheek. I felt the cold chill and then he started to warm up and solidify.

“No!” Maria screeched.

Both of us jumped from the sudden noise. Kevin spun like he was going to go to her rescue but instead ran back into me. I gasped first at the fact Kevin was half solid and then at the monstrous demon cat growling at him.

“Break the genjutsu Kevin. I let you come to observe that was all.” Maria said venomously.

My foot stepped back finally like I was released from Kevin’s stare that held me. The white cat Maria was sitting on growled at Kevin as he backed up trying to grab my hand. He let it drop and Maria landed on the ground before him.

“Kevin please let her do it.”

“No I won’t let you change her life too.”

“She wants to change yours!”

“What?” He said confused.

“She’s not some trespasser or threat she’s a girl with a past and future that needs changed. She can do that weather she means to or not. So leave!” She yelled.

The cat hissed and leapt forward snatching Kevin away.

My heart skipped a beat and I started to reach for him. Maria clamped a hand over my mouth.

“Shh they can still see you and if you scream it will be over and you’ll fail.”

My eyes widened and I turned away from Kevin as he screamed at the cat. It was so hard to look away but I had to.

Maria wouldn’t hurt him, right

I had to brush the thought aside as I gasped again throwing my hands up to cover my mouth. Kevin! He was strolling up to the school, hands shoved in his jean pockets with his head down. The studenst all watched him, and I realized just then they were all girls.

What is this a female ninja school?

Kevin walked right past Maria’s past self and I found my body being propelled forward. I wanted to hug him and ask if he was ok after the cat took him. But as I neared him I realized this was the past Kevin he wouldn’t know me. I was pulled up short as I started to stop too late. I collided with his back knocking us both down. Closing my eyes tight I readied for the impact that never came.
I opened my eyes to look up at Kevin holding me. Blinking a few times I felt a blush creep over my cheeks. I found the feel of his skin against my human skin lovely. Jerking out of his arms I coughed and straightened my kimono top.

Lie

.” Sorry I didn’t see you.”

I did too that was the problem.

“That’s ok. Are you lost too?”

“Uh yeah I just started school today.”

Half lie I was lost.

“Me too, what clan are you from?”

Clan? What is he talking about?

I was fighting with my sleeve trying to think up an answer before I was found out. Thankfully just as I was about to answer Bocdia a shrill bell rang out making him turn.

“Where late, “I sighed internally,”Can we walk
together? Maybe if we work together we won’t get as lost.”

“Ok” I breathed out.

I was a wreck at this point. What was I suppose to do? Maria didn’t die today and I was here to save her. If I got too evolved with Kevin he might not run into Maria.

“I just remembered I have to do something first sorry.” I said quickly and ran around the corner of the school out of view.

Pressing my back to the wall I slid down to the floor to catch my breath.

“What are you doing?”

I looked up to see Maria’s ghost frowning at me.

“I don’t know what I’m doing or suppose to do. I know I need to save you but you don’t die today.”

“How do you know that?” she asked.

“Your outfit” I motioned to her, “you’re in a prom dress. Today you’re wearing a ninja outfit.”

She smiled at me and laughed.

“Very notable of you, your right I don’t die today. But you don’t need to save me. You need to save him.”
I blinked lost again.

“Save him?”

She nodded placing her hand on my arm so she could pull me to my feet. We started flickering again and I found myself in a hallway.

“Where am I?”

“A few minutes from where you where” She said and disappeared.

“Maria!” I hissed.

She needed to give me more than that. She was starting to annoy me with her vague answers and disappearing acts.
“Look at this, he burses so easily.”

I turned my head to the sound of the voice and followed. I had to walk down the hallway and into an open room to find the source. I slid behind a rack of weapons and watched like a ninja. Kevin was on his knees glaring at one of the girls Maria had been with. She was extremely pale and holding a knife to Kevin’s throat. I was ready to lung after her but I wasn’t sure if Maria would come or not since they seemed to be her friends. My decision was made for me when the black ninja holding him drew a line of blood from his shoulder.

“Stop!” I shouted as I sprang from my hiding spot.

The girls looked at me and Kevin shook his head no. The white one spoke up first.

“And who are you?”

“My name is Jenny and that” I pointed to Kevin,” Is my friend.”

She laughed giving the knife to the other girl.

“My name is Diamond I come from the Tiara clan. What about you?”

I paused biting my sarcastic come back off,

again with the clan question.

‘Say Lynn’ Maria whispered in my ear.

“Lynn” I said obediently.

It was my last name but I wasn’t sure if that meant anything to them but I guess it did. Diamond smiled more and drew her purple katana.

“Great I need to practice my sword skills. And this kills two birds with one stone.”

My reflexes kicked in and I drew my own sword. It felt awkward in my hands until she attacked and then I knew what I had to do. Block her blow then pull back strike forward with a down ward swing followed by swooping upper swing to the shoulder. I nicked her drawing first blood.

“Very good now it’s my turn.” She said.

She spun like a ballerina with her katana held out. I back tracked to avoid her razor tornado but just as I managed to get a safe distance away I screamed and fell forward. Diamond laughed in my ear.

“Don’t believe your eyes around a ninja.” She said as she pulled her sword from my shoulder.

I collapsed to the floor panting as I closed my eyes tight. I caught a glimpse of Kevin looking worried.

I can’t give up yet, not yet!

My eyes flashed open as something in me snapped. I pushed myself up and swiped Diamond’s legs out from beneath her. Picking up my sword I leapt onto a table and readied myself. I was going off pure instinct I didn’t know I had. Spinning my katana I pressed the dull side against my arm. The stance freed my left hand for another weapon of to grab her. I blocked her blow for blow as she yelled at me and struck out madly when she changed her stance to a more aggressive one.

I saw an opening and struck out using my wrist to flick the tip of the sword out to cut her arms. Glaring she charged striking out with her sword. I dogged making a fast block but missed a dagger she had hidden. I sucked my stomach in to try and avoid the strike but she changed the path at the last second bringing the dagger up. It forced me to push her away or be gutted. But still even after that the dagger dove into my hand. She smiled backing off before she disappeared. I feel to my knees panting.

“Sword master please come here.”

My head snapped up to the familiar voice. Maria, the past one, was holding the other girl by the throat. I got to my knees and made my way slowly to her. I was feeling light headed, not from blood loses but just plan light headed.

“No she lost Maria!” Diamond shouted from the shadows.

She charged me again. I reacted slow but still fast enough to drag my katana up her arm. She screamed trying to cut my chest but I shoved her away just in time to get just my top cut open. The past Maria grabbed her shit and jerked her back yelling at the two girls. I would have laughed but I was dizzy and my vision was messed up. I almost didn’t make it to the counter where I let my forehead slam down on the table top. I moaned at the coolness. Someone cleared there throat and I looked up to see Maria.

“Sorry about those two. They don’t like male ninjas or newbie’s.”

“It’s ok no one was hurt right?”

“You where and your shirt it’s...” She trailed off.

I looked down to see myself exposed. I blushed madly and quickly fixed it in time to look up and see Kevin looking off blushing too.

Ah!

I was flipping out in my head but played it off as nothing.

“Say what’s you name?”

“I’m Jenny.” I said holding my hand out to shake.
She took it.”Maria Bocdia.”

“Maria.” Diamond said quietly.

All of us turned in her direction making her shrink in on herself like she was a totally different person. Maria huffed waved goodbye to me and drug the girls off. As soon as they were out of sight I wobbled and started to fall to the side. I hit something solid and warm making me open my eyes.

“You ok?” Kevin asked.

I closed my eyes forcing out a breathy ‘no.’ I was having trouble breathing and I felt like I was on fire. My vision was blurred so bad the farthest I could see was the spot of blood of Kevin’s shirt right in front of me. And to top it off my head was killing me.

Ch@pter 9

Air rushed around me causing me to open my eyes in shock. I thought I might have started falling again but to my surprise Kevin was carrying me down the hall.

“Where are you taking me?”

“The nurse where else.” He stated matter-of-factly.

“You’re not my mother and you have no authority over me.”

“I’m older.”

“I’m eighteen that makes me an adult.”

He sighed and continued to carry me.

“Put me down!”

I shouted so suddenly he dropped me on the spot. Bending over I hurled blood and collapsed to all fours as I started at the blood.

Was I completely human?

This wasn’t something that happened before. Not to my robot body. And then I blacked out.

“Never mess with the Tiara clan, were poison masters.” A hallucination of a black Diamond said to me.

“Jenny, Jenny, Jenny.” Kevin was yelling at me.

Slowly I opened my eyes and attempted to sit up. I gasped at the pain consuming my body. I felt like I had been run over. After a moment of straining to sit up I fell back on the bed. There was something seriously wrong.

“Jenny you awake still?”


“Unfortunately.” I said.

Something brushed my hair and I opened one eye to see Kevin frowning at me. I let my eye close again figuring I was in the nurses office.

“What the heck!” I said springing forward suddenly.

“Hold still!” He yelled at me.

I just stared at him. It was Kevin, current Kevin, in the flesh.

“How did I?”

I couldn’t fathom how but I seemed to be back in the present.

“That would be my doing.” Said the platypus from before.
“I’m hallucinating.”

“Oh right sorry I like this form.”


A cloud of white smoke engulfed the small creature and when it cleared the second girl who had helped Diamond stood before me.

“Kimberly Giles of the Giles clan, masters of transformation at your service.” She said bowing.

I waved at her like an idiot completely lost.

What was going on?

Someone knocked on the door and Kevin went to answer it.

“All you need to know it you succeeded. But not at what you wanted to do.”

“What?”

“You’ll see.” She said.

She stepped back to show me the people who had entered. I gasped there was Diamond, now black, standing next to Maria. She was smiling at me proudly. I blinked and rubbed my eyes before I looked back at her.

“But it wasn’t the day you died.”

“Nope it was the day Kevin fell for me. I died on the way to prom with him.” She said as she walked over and plopped down on my bed.

Kevin sat down on the other side and took my hand. I looked at him like he was the robot freak and not me. Then it hit me.

“If he never liked you, you wouldn’t die. So that means…” I trailed off looking at him.

He smiled kissed my hand, arm, forehead, and finally my lips.

“It means if you say yes were going to prom tonight.”
My jaw dropped.

So that was her plan, she was evil.

“Then the ninja thing?” I asked.

“Is real, but the robot thing was Toshi using genjutsu on you. Don’t you remember who you are Jenny?”

I blinked looking down at my bandaged hand. I was Jenny Lynn the ro-, no descendent of the Lynn sword masters. I attended a ninja academy in the mountains. It was a coed school but the boys didn’t dare try to join, at least until Kevin showed up. I fell for him but he fell for Maria. She died and I wanted to help him so they decided to use genjutsu to help me through the rift. Looking at Maria now I was surprised she had made him fall for me and not her again.

“You deserve a chance. I had mine.” She whispered in my ear.

I smiled at her and laid down. I was so worn out from this messed up situation. Rolling on my side I grabbed Kevin’s retreating hand. He sat back down and brushed the hair from my face. He moved in to kiss my forehead again and I moved placing my lips on his for a kiss.

“Yes” I whispered against them.
