Lost love
By
Hannah Ratliff

I dropped the letter, as I run out my front door. My love. My heart. Has come back to nether field after ten years of travel. I run to meet my love. Twenty more miles my breath heaving in and out. I can still hear his voice, ten years back. “When I come home we will be together, forever.” – “and I always be yours right Adrian?” –“yes Julie my heart belongs to you and yours I”. Seventeen more miles, my muscles ach my lungs burn. Yet I still leap for joy, for today my love, my lover has come to me once again. Fifteen more miles, my heart thumps faster and faster to meet its other half. My mind and body screams to stop, but my heart says faster. Twelve more miles. My lungs burn and my muscles ach. My mind says stop, but my arms, my arms ach to embrace my lover. My arms feel bare, they ach to feel the heat of his body to hold him and never let him go. Nine more miles my lungs are screaming to stop. My muscles are tearing. My heart yet is yelling go, go, go! “Adrian, Adrian, Adrian. I keep whispering to myself, motivating myself to keep going six more miles. I run across the stream, wetting my dress. Four more miles, my lungs are screaming, my muscles are on fire. My heart beats faster than a cheetah can run. One more mile! I scream with joy. I top the hill and see my lover’s house. My body has gone numb from the pain; my lungs have turn to stone. ADRIAN!! I yell at the top of my lungs for my lover. I cross the gate and as I round the bend I see my lover step outside the house. The arrow of death has pierced my heart, for my lover is not alone. He embraces another, who holds a child, his child. I fall to the ground; my heart has broken in a million pieces. My arms are cold form the lack of heat from my love. My muscles ach, my lungs scream, my eyes are filled with tears. My heart has slowed to that of a turtles pace; I cannot go on without my lover. Adrian. I whispered as my last breath left me.
