Prologue

As a shadow slips by TadpoleKat's front door, they drop off a package. The stranger didn't know what would come of the person who resceived this package, but they knew it wouldn't be good. She wished whoever resceived this package good luck, and to be safe. Then the shadow silently slipped away...

A Mysterious Package

rrrrrrriiiiiinnnnnnggggggg

went TadpoleKat's alarm. She slapped it at the top to turn it off. She got up and got dressed ready to go to her voulenteer job at the animal shelter. She opened the door and there was a package sitting at her door. She picked it up and was suprised at how heavy it was for such a small box. She was quite confused, because she hadn't ordered anything. Maybe it was a gift she thought to herself.
She put the box on the table and went into the drawr and got a knife. She walked over to the package. No return address, that's weird. She thought to herself. She cut the tape holding the top flaps on the box right down the middle. It was filled with abunch of old looking cd's and tapes. She was quite confused. Who would have sent these to her?
She went into her room and got a tape player and a cd player. She grabbed her headphones and put one of the cd's in the cd player and pressed play. There was nothing but a scratching sound for the first few seconds then played some music. Well she thought it was music but she had never heard any music like this.
It was very hard to understand. It was in some kind of different language that she had never heard. Or maybe she had, she didn't know. It was quite puzzling to her. Then she thought of Skyler. Maube he knew what this was. So she got in her FireBreather and started it.
"Nya!" There was TacoKat
"Nya!" She went
"Ok TacoKat come on in" TadpoleKat said
"Nya! Nya! Nya!"
"Ok, calm down." She said as TacoKat jumped into the car.
TadpoleKat buckled her seatbelt the put TacoKat in her special cat bed seat. TadoleKat backed out of the drive way. As she was stopping at a stop light, she remembered that she could listen to the tapes and cd's on her radio. She pulled out one of the cd's and put it in her radio then turned it up. She tried to listen to it carefully see if she could understand any of it.
It was really scratchy sounding too. She listened carefully, trying to see if there was maybe a reason why somebody had sent these to her. It was just too complicated. As she pulled into Skyler's driveway, she could see Skyler was home, because the lights were on. She turned off the engine and got out of the car. She walked up to the door and Skyler opened it.
"Hey Baby" He said as she walked inside.
"Hey Sky" She said as she kissed him gently on the cheek.
"What? That's all I get?" He said as he leaned in to kiss her on the lips.
"Not right now Sky" She said
"What's wrong baby?"
"I got some strange package this morning filled with a bunch of old cd's and tapes. The sounds really scratchy and there's some kind of language I've never heard of on this. It's really weird. I've been trying to figure it out but I can't understand a single thing on these. It's really agitating. It's got me in a really bad mood right now. It's as if there hiding something from me." She said.
"Let me hear them Babe" He said as he motioned her to the table.
"Put the cd's and tapes on the table and pick a few out. I'll go get my cd player and tape player. Also I'll bring a few books on ancient languages and other stuff like that. Ok sweety?"
"Ok baby."
She put them on the table and pulled out three cd's and three tapes. Just looking at them made her angry. It was if they were taunting her. Daring her to try and figure them out. She wanted to throw them on the ground and watch them break into a million peices. But what good would that do? She just decided to sit down and try to think of something else.
"Nya" went TacoKat
TadpoleKat had forgotten to let her in. She rushed over to the door and let her in. TacoKat looked at TadpoleKat as if saying "How dare you lock me out" TadpoleKat stiffled a purr. She couldn't help it. Just the Skyler came back carrying dozens of books and his cd and tape player.
Skyler was a total geek so he had tons of books. His whole upstairs was filled with books. She loved him though. Geekieness and all.
"Here you go Sky" She said as she handed the cd's and tapes to hime.
"Thank you baby" he said as he took them from her hands and kissed her on the forehead.
He took one of the cd's and put it i the cd player. he turned it up so they could both listen. He started to lean toward it as it started playing. Just like the others. it started off with a scratchy sounding noise the the strange music started. As they listened to the strange music Skyler raised one of his eyebrows. He ran into the other room and came back with some peices of paper and pencils. He started to jot down as much as he could from the lyrics. Or atleast he wrote down what he thought was correct.
When he looked at the paper after it ended all they had was gibberish. None of it was real words. This fustrated TadpoleKat even more.Skyler took the paper and opened one of the books about ancient languages and tried to see if any of it matched. In the first book, nothing. So he tried a second book and ofcourse again, nothing. After about seven books, they still hadn't got anything to match. So they gave up for now and took a break...

Little progress

After about an hour and a half, TadpoleKat and Skyler went back to work on decoding the tapes and cd's. TadpoleKat handed Skyler a different tape and put it in. Just like the cd's, a scratchy sound at the beggining then the music, but this time, the music wasn't scratchy, it was very clear this time. They started to right down the sounds as fast as they could. This time they got more out of this tape.
Whenever it ended, it was alot of stuff. They started looking through the books for any matches but they ended up with nothing as usual. They made sure to mark this tape so they could figure it out later. It was clearer than the others so it might be able to help them solve these things.
They started on the next cd. This one was scratchy. Just like the others. But the voice sounded different. It was deeper, stronger sounding, unlike the others that were almost like a woman's voice. But not this one. Because it was so much deeper it was harder to understand. The music was more...choppy too. This really confused them. They tried to jot down the voice, but they onbly got about half of a page.
TadpoleKat and Skyler got really aggrivated at this. They wouldn't get anywheres if they continued on like this. They stayed up all night listening to the tapes, but they hadn't even gotten half way through the tapes yet. They hadn't even made that big of a dent in it.
As they listened to the next tape TadpoleKat finally just gave up.
"I just can't take this anymore. I give up. It's probally just gibberish! Screw this. Ugh!" She said as she walked out of the room.
"Baby, come on. Come back here. We're still not done!" He said walking after her.
"Baby!" He said.
"No! I can't stand this anymore!"
"Baby"
"No!!!"
When Skyler finally caught up wiith her he grabbed her wrist.
"Let go!" She said
"No. Come on baby!You can't just give up."
"It's no use though, we'll never decode it."
"Yes we will."
"No we won't-"
But she was cut off when Skyler pulled her in closer and kissed her passionetly on the lips. When he pulled away TadpoleKat looked him in the eyes and just said "wow"
"I love you" he said
"I love you too" she said

"Oh but it is"

They went on like this forever. Until Skyler finaly gave in.
"Yes I win!" She said.
"Yea Yea whatever."
TadoleKat just sat there and smiled. She pulled him in and kissed him passionetly on the lips. They walked over to the table and started to listen to the tapes and cd's again. Then TadpoleKatjumped up.
"What if it's not an ancient language!?" She exclaimed.
"huh? what are you talking about baby?" Said Skyler very confused.
"Maybe it's a code. You know how they do in the army with the special code messages. Maybe we just need to figure that out!" She said
"I never thought of that!" he said as he held TadpoleKat's face and kissed her.
"I can't beleive I never thought of that!" he said to himself.
He grabbed the paper they wrote that had the most and made a second copy of it. He gave one to TadpoleKat and gave one to himself as they tried to decode the message. They worked for hours upon hours trying to find some kind of pattern.
"You got anything Sky?" She said looking at him hopefully.
"Nothing" he replied.
TadpoleKat was starting to lose hope. They weren't getting anywheres. What were they going to do?!?! Maybe it was just a prank pulled by some teenager. Or maybe there was something in the box to help them decode it!!!
TadpoleKat jumped up and ran to the box. She pulled everything out tryiong to see if there was something, anything, to help them make sinse of this whole thing. And then she saw it, a map at the bottom of the box taped down.
"Skyler look at this!"
"What is it baby!?"
"It's a map! It was taped to the bottom of the box! Maybe it will help us decode the music!"
"Let me see it!" He said as she handed him the map.
As he looked at the map, his face lit up. He knew what to do...
Skyler was just sitting there studying the map. TadpoleKat petted TacoKat as she waited for Skyler to finish studying the map. After about fourt five minutes he finally put it down and walked upstairs to get something. When he finally came back downstairs, he had more books and papers. He set them on the table and started setting them out. The papers he got were actually more maps.
"What's all this for?" Asked TadpoleKat.
"This map is from 57 years ago, so I'm pretty sure most of it is inaccurate." He said in reply.
"Oh." She said, "Okay"
As Skyler was trying to get the map up to date TadpoleKat plugged in her earphones and started listening to the tapes again, writing down as much as she could. It was all hard to understand though. It seemed like to her each tape she put in just got more and more foreign sounding to her. It was really irritating to her. She just wanted to set the whole box on fire and just watch it burn.
It was as if this thing was mocking her. She hted whoever put these on her door. She wish they would die a slow, painful, fiery death. It pissed her off. Each tape she got less and less written down on the paper.
Knock Knock Knock.

Somebody was at the door. Who would be here? Probally some person trying to sell them something. TadpoleKat got up to get the door. When she opened it, there was nobody there. Probally some teenagers pulling a prank. Trying to get some kind of laugh. What they were going to get was a death wish. She thought to herself.
"Yall better stay away from here unless you have a death wish!" She yelled so that they knew she was serious. She took one last look around then went back to the table to help Skyler. As they continued working on making the map up to date, they made sure to write down the list of places that weren't on the map, incase maybe those would help them figure it out.
Knock. Knock. Knock.

Somebody was at the door again. TadpoleKat rushed to the door this time to see if she could catch who was at the door. When she opened the door, once again, nobody.
She was really irritated now.
"Who ever is doing this, next time I'm calling the cops!" She threatened as she slammed the door shut. Then she moved the curtains to see if they would come out again. Nothing.
Now she was really pissed off. She was serious about calling the cops too. She grabbed her phone incase they came back. After a few minutes waiting for them to come back she went back to helping Skyler again with the map and stuff. After a few minutes of helping Skyler she went back to the music to try to figure it out again. She popped in one of the cd's and pressed play.
"Skyler come listen to this!" She said as she pressed pause then rewinided it. She popped out the headphones and waited for it to play back to the beginning. Skyler rushed over to TadpoleKat.
"What's wrong baby?" He said as he got there.
"Listen to this!" She said, "It's in english! This tape is in English!"

A giant Step

"Really!? Let me here!" He said
TadpoleKat pulled a chair over for Skyler to sit in. She pressed the play button and they listened to the tape. It was in a very young sounding girl's voice. Probally about 16 years old. This is what it said:" Hi, by now you've probally figured out that most of these tapes are recordings of scratchy foreign music. Hopefully by now you haven't figured out the code to these yet. If you have I'm very sorry of what will become of you."

TadpoleKat and Skyler looked at eachother questionly Then went back to listening to it.
" I bet you're wondering what all this is about, well, you are one of the twelve people to receive this package. You are actually part of my little game. Here are the rules to our little game."

TadpoleKat and Skyler paused the tape and got a pen and paper to write them down. Then they pressed play. " Rule one, no matter what, you can not quit the game, if you do, well, let's just say you will not want to know. Rule two, Inside the box are the tapes and cd's, each has it's own special code to it, you must decode them all correctly. Rule three, After you decode them all you must find out the order in which it all goes. Rule four, you can not tell anybody about the game except for whoever is listening right now. Rule five, if you do not figure out the codes, and the orders within 12 months, you lose. Rule six, If you lose, you die. Rule seven, you can not stop playing the game for a break for more than twelve days. Rule eight, You can not cheat at this in any way shape or form. Rule nine, after you decode the messages and the order, you will find at the last one of the tapes, you will find your name and other names in it. The person after your name is the one who you must send it to next. Rule ten, once you decode them and find the order, you must send it to the address you will also find at the end of the last tape. Rule eleven, if you win, you live. And last rule is rule twelve, if you break any of these rules you die. So, good luck in the game. Oh yeah and I forgot, once you start decoding, you will have things happen to you some good...and some bad. Good bye."

Silence it ws over. TadpoleKat and Skyler were speechless.
They just didn't know how to react. How could you react to this. But all they knew was, they were in great danger....
"So we're just part of a game?" Said Skyler trying to make sure he didn't process that whole thing wrong.
"Yeah, I think so." She said. Her voice showing no emotion, but her eyes were filled with just plain, raw, horror.
"So what do we do now?" He said
"We win this game and we survive." She said.
"Sounds good to me." He said
"Well, let's hurry up and figure this thing out."
"Ok"
TadpoleKat and Skyler walked over to the table and started listening to the tapes. They would both listen to one and write down what they could make out, then at the end they switched tapes and tried to see if they could make out something that the other one couldn’t. Then they would get a separate sheet of paper then put what they both had together, then make another copy so they could try to see if they could figure out the code.
They were so sick and tired of theis thing.
