Prologue

The teenager ran, terrified. And yet, no matter how fast or far she ran, those slow and steady footsteps that never changed from their casual stride continued to grow louder. The girl looked behind her and saw a large shadow looming. She ran even faster, wishing she had never decided to follow her urge to visit the Human World. All of a sudden, the footsteps stopped. She stopped, listening. Later, she would regret this decision, and wish she had kept running. What happened to her next would change her life forever.
Suddenly, she heard the footsteps start up again, but this time there was more than one pair of feet. She started running again, this time, she ran faster than she had ever run before. She would have flown, but one of their arrows had pierced her wing, a perfect shot. They obviously meant to maim or injure, not kill. If they had wanted to kill her, they would have done so by now. They had certainly had several chances.
On she ran, the two pairs of feet ever-persistent footsteps behind her. Then, she came to a dead end. Then she realized; it was a trap. They had planned this from the very beginning. She stopped, nowhere to go, and blood dripping from her wing. She tried one more time to fly away, but it was in vain. A vital bone in her wing must have been broken, for her left wing would barely move, and when it did move, the pain almost made her black out. Terror seized ahold of her as the owners of the footsteps came around the corner. They were demons.
She saw one of the demons make a strange gesture, and then she realized; these were no normal demons. These were Demon Mages, the most terrible form of creature that ever existed. The worst part was; a Demon Mage normally kept to its self, unless employed by a very high-ranking Dark Creature. And only one type of Dark Creature could employ more than one Demon Mage and that is a Dark Elder. All of this flashed through her mind as everything turned black. Right before she completely lost consciousness, she heard a terrible rasping voice.
“Finally, we have her. The Dark Queen will be pleased.” Then everything went black.
