I Remember
I remember walking down that dirt road
The sand and rocks beneath my feet
I remember how it felt
My back warmed by the sun’s heat
I remember walking next to you
Your strong, tan hand in mine
I remember wanting nothing more
Than walking this straight line
I remember your embrace
How you felt so strong
I remember thinking
Now, I hope it won’t be long
I remember always telling you
What you meant to me
I remember wholly wishing
You’d kneel down on one knee
I remember her call
And the pain it caused inside
I remember trying to calm it
Give the pain some place to hide
I remember how it made me feel
When you turned my face to you
I remember knowing that our time
Had seconds left, so few
I remember what you promised
Together forever, always
I remember believing your every word
But those were forgotten days
I remember begging, pleading
I love you, please don’t go
I remember you saying so quietly
I cannot tell her, “no”
I remember feeling a tear fall from my eye
Slowly hit the ground
I remember having to breathe real loud
So my heart, you wouldn’t hear pound
I remember the large knot
Felt deep in my heart
Knowing that now, forever
We’ll always be apart
