You know the feeling when you're lost in an amazing dream, right? People feel that lots. Mainly in the late hours of the night.
It was midnight. When the first bell chimed on my dad's old clock, something came to vision in my head. An amazing world full of joy and happiness, with just a boy in it. He looked about seventeen, one year older than me. Then a dragonfly flew across the area. It wasn't an ordinary one. It's wings were like crystals, in purple and white.
Suddenly, the clouds came in and lightning shot onto both the boy and the dragonfly, making them disappear...
My dad had told me all about dragonflies when I was twelve.
He said they were ugly beings before they were beautiful dragonflies with their wings out.
He also said that dragonflies don't live forever. Like love, they only last for a little while.
But he didn't tell me that my mom's mansion was called 'Dragonfly Manor'.
Dragonfly Manor is in the country, just out of London. It's massive - with three floors. One for living, one for Mom and one for me, right at the top!
I have to move there because my dad's wanted by the police. He accidently hit someone with his Land Rover while showing off and he's being charged for murder. He's going forward once I've gone.
After my yummy breakfast of bacon sandwiches (with mayo, my favourite!!) I decided to go and start my packing. I packed all of my clothes and beauty products in one suitcase, my old teddies and cuddly toys in another, my posters, books and photo albums in another and in the last suitcase, all of my laptop accessories. Mom already has my laptop - a Sony Vaio in black.
As I got to the airport, my dad didn't cry. He gave me my ticket and then got dragged off by security guards. He didn't care.
On the plane, I watched a bit of TV. There was nothing I really fancied, just celebrity chat shows and all that. I turned it off and went to sleep.
I awoke under a palm tree on a dragonfly-shaped rock. There was a boy above my head, saying 'You're almost here with us. Come and join us...'
I sat up. 'Where am I?'
'Paradise.'
'Wha-'
'Please fasten your seatbelts. The plane is landing.'
I jumped up and fastened my seatbelt. Finally, I was arriving at Heathrow Airport.
Mom was waiting for me. She was bright and bouncy, and I loved her extremely much. She has blonde hair, blue eyes and slightly tanned skin.
'Hey, babe! How are you, Rosa?'
'Great, Mom. Dad's in jail.'
'What's he done this time?'
'Hit someone with his showy Land Rover.'
'He deserves to go to jail anyway. Come on, babe!' Mom said and then we went to her Mini Cooper.
At home, Mom had decked out my floor! There was a ginormous hall, with a hot tub room, a bathroom and bedroom! There were little crystal dragonflies on the ceiling, making small rainbows in the room. There was a desk in the bedroom with my laptop in it. Mom rumaged my bag for the charger and plugged it in. She pressed the button and my laptop started powering up immediately. The hot tub room had enough space for me and my friends.
Mom is so generous!
She tucked me up in bed that night, like what she used to do when I was younger.
'Don't forget, you're the birthday girl tomorrow! Fifteen, hey? Goodnight, darling.'
I had a dream about the dragonfly and the boy again.
'Welcome home, Rosa..'
'Rosa...'
I opened my eyes.
'Huh?' I saw the boy and the dragonfly yet again.
'You're not fourteen anymore.'
'What do you me-oh! Yes! My birthday!'
'Happy Birthday.'
'Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you,'
I opened my eyes to see Mom coming into the room with four bags full of wrapped boxes. My birthday presents.
'Happy Birthday, dear Rosa, happy birthday to you!' Mom sang, putting the bags on my bed and sitting by me. I shifted over to give her space (I had a double bed) and she got under the covers. Carefully, she picked up a present out of a bag. It had shiny silver paper with a purple ribbon.
'This one's from your grandad.' Mom said, passing the present to me. I wondered what it would be. Grandad always gave me something like a snowglobe. I loved them. I have ten on my shelf from London, Paris, New York and others.
This present didn't look like a snowglobe. It was like an envelope!
Excitedly, I opened the wrapping paper. Inside a small gift envelope was £100! There was also a card, in which said:
Dear Rosa,
I thought you were too old for another snowglobe this year, so spend the money how you want! Clothes, books, makeup, the lot.
Happy Birthday!
From Grandad
xx
I loved my grandad so much.
A few presents later, Mom finally handed me a square-shaped one.
'This is also from me.' she said.
Cautiously, I opened it. There was a box saying 'Loverdose'. Loverdose was a huge jewellery brand in the US - the necklaces were very rare! Girls in my old school wanted one so badly. Now, I had one! Unfortunately, I couldn't show off, because I wasn't in that school anymore.
I opened the box. There was a dragonfly necklace inside! This was the most expensive and beautiful, which all of the girls really, really wanted.
'Wow, Mom! Thank you!' I cried, and I hugged her.
A few hours later, I was on my own in the living room, watching TV. Suddenly, I saw my necklace glow! I turned off the TV and went upstairs to my floor. I opened the door and...
nothing was the same.
Everything looked beautiful. There was a river, a yellow brick road (sound familiar?) and, the best thing, the boy and the dragonfly from my dream!
You're going mad,
I thought. You're only seeing things...
'No, you're not.' The boy said. It was as if he read my mind! The dragonfly flew over me, like one of those LED helicopters people throw at Christmas. Its beautiful body curved in the sunlight.
'Flitter seems to like you!' The boy cried. 'Anyway, I'm Jock. Nice to finally see you in person at last. The dragonfly is Flitter.'
'I'm R-'
'We already know you, Rosa.' Jock interrupted. I knew what he was speaking about.
