Cycles
Cycles,
The threads that run through life
And knit together many themes
We observe them on our life journey
Acknowledgment and celebration.
Of the seasons,
Spring flowers awake to a bright dawn,
New beginnings.
Of a summer sun that beats down upon the land
And heat waves shimmer in the air.
Of the coolness that autumn brings,
Of gently falling leaves,
Changing colors and the shedding of old.
White snowscape covers the ground,
Hibernation of a hot sun
And the frigid cold air of winter.
The seasons pass and turn as a wheel,
One cycle of life we see.
From dawn to dusk,
Sunrise to sunset,
Light to darkness
The solar cycle that makes our days bright,
Like the dawnings of hope all the way to restful black
As we turn in for the night
Sleep our weary selves
And awaken to a brand new day of promise, birds chirping outside
One cycle of life we see.
Moonlit nights
Of many faces
Sometimes growing, sometimes diminishing
Sometimes full,
And sometimes just a tiny crescent
The lunar cycle of dreams and night visions
We rest in its tranquil silver light
Illuminating our deepest selves
One cycle of life we see.
The tide of emotions
From to joy to sorrow,
Light to dark,
And many in between
Excitement and inspiration,
That make us soar
As though we had wings.
Desire and passion,
Fulfill us as we fulfill our wants and needs.
Hope and peace,
As we glide serenely through the luminescent clouds
Of our greatest moments of tranquility.
Grief and despair,
When we lose someone we love
Or something that makes us
Be filled with sadness
When we feel that life has abandoned us
The loss too great to bear
Depression of the soul
Brings one down to the great and lonely pits of anguish.
Confusion and curiosity,
As we question the concept of God,
And that of life in general
Who are we in this grand epic tale,
This story of life.
Anger and frustration,
Like volcanic eruptions of the mind
Break out in lava pools of ire and aggravation
Makes one's skin crawl,
Then cools off
As whatever has disturbed us
Is solved or neutralized.
And many more
The cycles of emotion,
One cycle of life we see.
Rites of passage,
From birth to death
Beginnings and endings
As we count the years of age,
And celebrate our victories and accomplishments
Or simply to acknowledge
Those important turning points on our life maps
Birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, funerals and others
One cycle of life we see.
Cycles,
That dance into our days
And we dance with them,
Influencing each other
We see, we live through, we cherish
A patchwork quilt of the divine
Without them, everything would be stagnant
Still and dead, lifeless
So as we have them,
These cycles of life
That make and shape us
In ways sometimes we don't even know ourselves
As we in turn,
Embrace and move with them
Heartbeat of the universe
The cycles of life
The forever movement of nature and of existence
We see,
We acknowledge,
We celebrate,
We become
Cycles of continuous change and motion.
