Chapter One

The thunder crashed through the sky the clouds illuminated but the lightning. A short girl stood in the heavy rain. Her body was slender but also curvy. The rain plastered her clothes to her body. Her favorite place to be was there in the thundering rain. A place where she could scream all she wanted and not be heard she run freely without the fear of being seen in the waves of falling water. The greenness around her just added to her enjoyment. The people who had discovered her many years ago had moved her to Colorado. It was so beautiful to her. They had bought a great deal of land so she could wander freely. She would take everything that she could get, though her thoughts of escaping the hold of her ‘owners’ had been quickly crushed when they had put a cuff on her right wrist and left ankle. The damn shock collars again. She had thought that they would have trusted her by now but that hadn’t mattered. Mainly cause they had the right instinct. She had wanted out and she wanted out then.

She didn’t let this put a damper on the fun that she was having in the rain. A shock shot through her body and her rain slicked wavy hair went on end and dried for an instant. Her body crumpled to the ground in pain. She had found the boundary of where she could go. She had never liked it when she encountered the invisible fence. She always knew it was there but it always slightly disappointed her when she found it again. There was plenty of space but she still had the hope that someday she could start running and never stop. That there would no longer be any barriers keeping her in one place. Suddenly unhappy with her situation, she started to head back to the house, her rainy evening ruined.

She arrived in the enclosed clearing that held her house. She was not the only one that the people who ‘owned’ her had discovered. There were six kids living with Jessi in the house now. They were special like she was but some in completely different ways. She opened the door to run nearly into Alan before she jumped over him to try not to her him. He was the youngest ones in her very mixed up family. His soft blond hair dry and fluffy unlike her drenched wavy hair. Still flying through the air she crashed into the cabinet across from the door. Alan’s eyes widened with shock at the loud crashing sound. ‘This was not good’ her thoughts raced in her mind. She didn't want to make things strained more than they already were.

“Who the hell is making all the noise,” a deep voice sounded throughout the house.

“Sorry Jessi,” Alan whispered.

He froze and disappeared in an instant. She was alone in the room as the booming footsteps clattered towards her. The thought of running came into her mind but she quickly pushed it away knowing that it would only make the situation worse, for all of them. Not only her. The thunder continued to clash, making the house shake in its wake. It only added to Jessi’s discomfort now. ‘Why the hell did I make all that noise?’ she silently cursed herself. She froze as Alan had moments though she could only hope to disappear. The door to the kitchen slammed open and Mr. Kale his blond hair and cold blue eyes did not ease her panic.

“What the hell happened?” his voice full of menace.

“Well,” her voice softly shuttered, “I came in to the house to get out of the rain and ran into the cabinet.”

“You stupid freak! What the hell were you thinking. I was taking a nap! And you woke me up! You are sleeping outside tonight. And make sure everyone is ready for tomorrow.” he stomped out of the room and she crawled back outside. ‘Good thing I love the rain.’ she smugly thought. How she wished that she could go say night to the others. She started to climb a tree next to the house. She needed to say goodnight to Alan at the very least. He was the youngest and the most likely to come out looking for her. The weight of her body made a soft thud on the shingles. She saw the blond haired Alan crawling out of his window. She lightly giggled at the sight of him. He was not the only one to be climbing onto the roof. Though they weren't as fast as Alan to get to her. She looked down at Alan and smiled.

“You know that I like it outside,” a small smile crept onto his face. “Now go to sleep you’ll be starting school tomorrow remember? Go!”

A soft ball of black fur rubbed against her calf. She looked down and rolled her eyes at the large cat. A smirk somehow appeared on the cat's face and caused Jessi to smile in response. She climbed over to the tree to go find a somewhat dry place to sleep. Though while looking around she felt that that might be a more difficult task than she had thought before. She sighed as she came to a particularly large tree that seemed to have enough leaves to keep her relatively dry. She looked up into the canopy and watched the lightning light up the dark clouded sky. Sleep didn't come till early in the morning when the rain has slowed to a drizzle.

Something heavy came crashing through the tree, startling Jessi from her ever fitful sleep. she fell from the branch that she had been perched on to the cold muddy ground beneath her. She looked up to see Ben standing above her with a smirk on his face. This was so like him. She got up, scowling in his direction, and ran to the house she that she could get ready for the school day that would be starting soon. She rushed into the shower and cleaned off the mud that was now caked in her hair. She had just finished and was wrapping a towel around her when a banging came from the door. She opened it to see Aleisha standing there with her stuff ready for the showers herself. Jessi quickly let her in and slipped out heading to her room at the end of the hall.

Her room was small but just perfect for her. she went over to her small closet to get out some clothes. She pulled out a baggy pullover Men's hoodie. It was one of the only jackets and tops that she had so she wore it as a shirt. The sleeves hung past her hands and hid all that she wanted hidden. Attention was dangerous for what she was. She put on some baggy black pants that were one of the guys that she had stolen from them. Like they would care. Towel drying her hair she heard a soft knock on the door. Little Alen came in with his pajamas still on. She sighed and went to help him get dressed for his first day of school.
