Foreword

Each individual poem in this collection shares a unique source of inspiration, offers a new idea or perspective, and/or displays a creative way to express sentiments and emotions. I hope the reader has as much pleasure in reading the verse throughout as I did in composing each poem.

“Poetry on the Run” is a collection of poems I made while walking, at work, or performing mundane tasks. I was writing to reach the top on Poetry.com I was usually busy and the thoughts just pop so I jot them down on anything I could find. Sometimes even on my hands. Usually my co-workers would say “Do you know you have a pen in your hair?”

I would just smile and say “yes. So I can jot those thoughts down quickly.”

Here you go people. Now you can read my thoughts.

Green Fig and Codfish

Green fig and Dasheen, that's what I crave right now.

Boiled green fig, just like that.

Give me the salt fish with lots of onions.

Fry it good in Olive oil.

Smells so good, I want it now,

But I must wait till I make juice.

Passion fruit juice, yes! That's my pick,

To wash down all the fig and cod.

Love of her Life

For twelve years, she brightened his smile, cheered up his eyes,

Looked up to him with love in her eyes.

Her love for him would never die.

His love for her would stay alive,

A fire burning in their hearts.

His touch would be her ornaments,

His voice a song worth dancing to.

Her sway adds a bounce in his steps.

He walks like his gliding when she's around.

She looks enchanted when he's around.

They portray a dream love fairy tale.

Dominica's boys

I have fallen in love with Dominica's boys.

The cute boys who walk with the bounce,

Their nicknames are all very unique- Bowar, Choupitte, Sazon, Cocoyea, Taby and the list goes on and on.

There are the Ghetto boys who hang on the block, whistling at girls as they go on their way.

The business guys are always on the move, always have something important to do.

The professionals with their suits and ties, attitude big, all primp and proper.

All the baby fathers all around the town, running around trying to make a dollar.

The goody, two shoes church boys, Bible in their hands and singing praise songs.

Dominica's boys, I admire you. You are the boys who are good as gold.

It's not Right!

It is not right!

Where are the poems I just wrote?

Don't tell me you've stolen my pot of gold?

The words I wrote were placed just right.

Put them back on I beg of you.

It is just not right! You stole from me?

It is not right. It is not right!

Red and Blue

Girls in red, boys in blue.

What happens when a girl leaves a boy hanging?

She leaves him blue.

Mango versus Girl

A girl and a mango has three things in common.

They could only be admired when they are young.

They make a
