Nano-particles

What are Nano-Particles?

Nano-particles are atoms that are 1-100, meters long and congregate together in small clusters as well as having its own multiple dimensions of orders, for example, orders such as 100nm or less.  The word Nano comes from the Greek language meaning small or dwarf, its smallest unit can act as an entire entity in the terms of property and transport.  There are different types of Nano such as:

·         Nanosecond:  The second of a billionth of a second.

·         Nanoliter: The billionth of a liter.

·         Nanometer:  The billionth of a meter.

Nano-particles can be compared with things that are in our natural world, for example, human being atoms are a few tenths of a nanometre in diameter, DNA molecules have 1 nanometre, which are 2.5nm wide and an ant can have hundreds of nanometres.

What Types of Nano-Industries are there?

There are two different types of Nano-Industries.  These ones are:

·         Nanotechnology:  Nanotechnology can be explained in many different ways by many different scientists, but the true meaning of nanotechnology can that a product can be creates, which is a normal/causal product with a purpose to benefit all factors of people’s lives and their societies, for example, products that can be put into the nanotechnology category are products such as computers, memory chips, motors, anti graffiti-coatings, safety packaging and cleaning products.  Another main of nanotechnology can be the company, which works in the nanotechnology category, deals, creates and engineers high-quality products in a small scale using structures of Nano particles with 100nm or less , for example, these products, that are made with structures of 100nm or less, which are located in Nano-factories, can be sold as reasonable cheaper prices, for example, products that are made from particles with 100nm or less, can be robots, materials, satellites, manipulation of molecule substances in food, improving heat resistance, as well as different types of vaccinations that can repel dirt or bacteria.

·         Nanochemistry:  As for Nanochemistry, scientists, in Nano-industries, look into the structure of Nano particles and manufacture their simple structures, using standard size tools called nanoscales technology, in order to find their special properties and use them in products, which improves it and makes it better, for example, nanotubes have the property of being good electric conductors, which is useful in electric circuits, nanospheres properties can be used to hold strong drug molecules like a jail cell, this particle can be used to treat tumour cancers by carrying the  drug to the tumour, without affecting other parts of the body, before the drug is released on the tumour.   There’s even a particle called Titanium Oxide, which is used in sunscreen to whiten skin when it’s applied, Polyaniline fibres can be useful for self cleaning windows as well as other Nano particles that can reduce the weight of bikes, to make them lighter, as well as improve wear and tear in clothes and solve skin problems by working on Nano particles to create new and more aiding cosmetic products for example, creams, serums, make up, masks and face washes.

What are the Two Different Consumer Products that use Nano-Particles?

The two products I shall explain, that uses Nano particles, are scratch-proof glasses and self cleaning windows:

·         Scratch Resistant Proof Products:   There are many scratch proof products, for example, scratch proof cars, windows, flooring, helmets, watches, and mobile phones, plastic as well as paint, which are scratch resistant so that the product is protected from damage such as dropping or accidentally scrapping. Before they become scratch resistant, they are applied with a special coating made from special Nano particles.

To create these scratch resistant proof product coatings, the Nano particles that are normally used are silica non-aggregated nanopowder, Diamond-like carbon, Polycrystalline diamond, Aluminium Oxide, Alumina Particles, Siloxane, Pyrogenic silica and Aluminium silicate, therefore, all these particles help create good scratch resistant coatings for certain types
