The words of love you spoke pierced my heart
because they were for another.
I turned away, stunned by your declaration.
Unable to breathe as the walls closed in, I fled.


My heart was tied up with secret thoughts of love for you.
I crawled through jeweled corridors
hearing your words echoing in the night.
We had been so close—I couldn’t imagine you with her.

I allowed myself to walk through lavish gardens
into golden dreams of love and hope.
Escorted by sweet melodies from my heart unwilling
to imagine a world without you.


My tears fell like nature’s dew and swallowed the velvety earth
till I was desiccated and could weep no more.
I saw your face, heard your voice, and escaped wanting distance between us.
My heart still ached I couldn’t believe I was such a fool.

I remembered once when we kissed, and the ecstasy
I longed for that one more time.
I’m trapped I could never escape you, and my feelings for you will never die.
I’ll always remember our kiss.
