Lovers

“Jake please don’t go without me.”
“Babe my friends have a job waiting for me in Venice. I’ll be living near the beach.”
“I’ll die without you!”
“Your mother will never let you go, you’re too young.”
“She’s never home, besides I have an I.D. that says I’m eighteen.”
Sherry put her arms around Jake and drew him close, “Kiss me.”
“Okay I’ll take a chance. Get a few things and let’s split.”
Sherry ran in the house and grabbed her clothes and cash. They jumped into his souped up Mustang and drove away to start a brand new life.

Angels of Mercy

Sherry woke up disoriented. Her body and matted hair had an offensive odor. “Dear would you like a shower and some clean clothes?” Sister Angelica asked.
“Oh yes.”
“A police officer found you, alone in an alley. How old are you?”
“I’m fourteen, and where’s my boyfriend. We ran out of money. He left one day to get food, and never came back.”
“Do you want to call someone dear?”
I’ll call my mama, could she forgive me and still love me?”
“Always”
I’m so tired. I want to be a child again. Is it to late to go home?”

Reconciled

Sherry was sent to juvenile hall after she had eaten and cleaned up. She couldn’t forget how Jake had left her. Monday morning came suddenly. She was taken to court with little hope for her future. She knew now, running away with Jake was the wrong choice, he never really loved her. Entering the courtroom, Sherry looked around and spotted her mother and was embarrassed to look her in the eye. The judge made her go with her mother to family counseling. She had to attend summer school. Sherry’s mother cried softly and embraced her daughter as they left together.
