Alice Coffman did not expect for the hostess guy to talk to her in school. When she shut the door of her locker and turned left, the direction of her history class she was stunned by the guy who was their waiting for her to shut the door of her locker.
“Hi” he said, his name was Drake Goldman almost the same name as me.
“Hi” I said back. “What are you doing here don’t you have um science class to go to. I knew his whole schedule. He shook his blond hair and blinked his ocean blue eyes he was everything to me I evolved around him. “Well cant a nice guy like me come and visit a pretty girl like yourself” he said. He was talking to me actually talking to me I was getting dizzy and my head was spinning my heart was pounding so loud I wondered if he could hear it. “You think I’m pretty?” I asked looking down at my shoes.
“Yes”
Wait hold up hold up we have been going to school with each other since 1st grade it was weird how he just now noticed me. “Um Drake, we’ve been going to school together for a long time and why are you just now talking to me?” He looked shocked like he was surprised probably because that was the most I have said to him so far. “well I guess I was caught by the mastermind, look Amber States wanted me to talk to You to see if you would freak or stay calm and collected She has a video camera recording this sorry” he said in a low voice I told him it was okay and he turned and walked away so my first true love moment had come and gone in about 3 minutes. I turned to the right and ran to the girls restroom in there was Amber States herself. I guess she figured out that I would run to the girls bathroom the first chance I got. The bell rang I guess I’m skipping class.
“Well if it is the old Alice Coffman”
I stopped right in my tracks.
“Where are you going?” said Amber in a snooty tone.
“You’re not the boss of me Amber”
“I am older than you”
“By one year just because your 18 does not make you the boss of everyone in the school.”
She casually walked over and stared at me. Amber had blue eyes and dirty blonde hair compared to my dark black hair in a ponytail and dark brown eyes a too small of a nose and small lips she was the queen of Iceland I was the slave.
“It does if my daddy owns the place and guess what he does” she turned toward the mirror and put on more unnesary lip gloss she had enough on as it stands.
“and I’m friends with everyone except people like you and I’m dating Drake you could call him the jock and me the future prom queen and you better vote for me” then she turned on Gucci pink high heeled shoes and walked away.
Proms ha like I’m going to that. Wait a sec. PROM! I totally forgot that’s a senior’s most favorite thing of the year how could I not go. Oh yeah you have to have a date as if I would ever get one.
I walked out of the bathroom and into the deserted halls of the school trace high school. I heard a locker door slam on the other side of the hall it was Sam my best and only friend. She had dark curly brown hair and crystal green eyes. She was holding a hall pass in one hand and a science text book in the other I walked up to her.
“Hi i thought you were in history not science this period?”
“I am Mr. Hayward gave me a pass to come get a book so if I had spare time I could study for the history test” she was always studying.
“Besides I thought you were in history class too?”
I told Sam about the whole Drake thing and meeting Amber in the bathroom she wasn’t all that stuned just a little freaked that she would even talk to me.
“Well what do you think this was all about?” I asked her walking her to class.
“Honestly Alice if I were you I wouldn’t make a big deal out of this just vote for her at prom so she won’t pick on us anymore”
“wait and let her win and be the queen no way she doesn’t deserve that and she needs to be nicer to people not just you and me but if she won as prom queen that would just wreck the whole thing” after I finished I took a breath and stopped in the hallway there was no point in going on.
“What is this thing you’re talking about sure she gets prom queen so what? Don’t let her get to you. And besides I thought you weren’t even going maybe we can go together as friends does that sound good?” Sam was almost too her class so I told her yes that was fine if we could go together. When Sam had left I turned around and went to my locker to get my books for next period, English.

When I got to Ms. Raves English I saw Drake and Amber there before me and before the teacher arrived making out. How much I wish that I could be the girl kissing Drake’s wonderful and perfect lips.
All of a sudden Drake looked up and saw me in the doorway starring at them.
“Well it’s the mastermind” he then stood up and pushed Amber off of him and walked toward me. I can’t believe it he stopped kissing Amber to come to me it was the sweetest and coolest thing that has happened.
“Hi, Drake”
“Hi” he was now write in front of me his face inches away from mine.
“Drake, honey come over here we only have a few minutes left to cuddle”
When I saw drakes face it hurt me a lot he looked devastated like he wanted to stay there 1 inch from my mouth. Why did Amber States have to ruin it all? Drake turned away from me and walked back to Amber kissed her on the cheek grabbed his stuff and went to his seat right when Ms. Raves walked in. After that all of the other kids streamed in and sat down getting ready for the class to start

When the bell rang signing that it was the end of the day I was as happy as could be but when Amber and her followers came up to my locker and sneered at me the day got worse
“Um can I help you?’’ I asked.
“Ha ha very funny what is going on with you and Drake?”
WHAT!
She must be demented she thought something was going on between me and him no way.
“Um nothing Amber do you really think he might have a thing for me cause if you do you are so wrong”
“Whatever your hiding I will find out so you might want to watch your back instead of making up stupid little lies okay” she smirked turned and walked away.

No one was home when I got home so I was by myself when the doorbell rang. I got up of the couch put down my laptop and walked to get the door. My house was a very untidy and small place I hate it. When you first walk in theirs a little hallway that leads to the living room witch has a small couch and TV in the middle that it. Then there’s the kitchen with cupboards for the pantry. MY room leads off of the living room it has a small bed with a desk and chair and window. Write across from my room was my mom’s room it was just a bed and a TV and that room led off to the bathroom.
I never had a dad I guess my parents split up before I was born
When I opened the door to my small house ready to say sorry I don’t want to buy anything I was most shocked when I saw it was Drake.
“Hi Drake what are you doing at my house?”
“Hi I wanted to say sorry about the thing with Amber today”
“It’s ok you could had told me that at school you know that right?”
I was trying to stay calm as possible because it was a miracle that Drake Goldman came to my house to say sorry.
“Yea, Yea I think I just might have wanted to see you. Mastermind at work?” apparently he was asking if I was doing my homework. No because I already did it
“No just sitting working on my laptop…
Hey do you want to come inside for some water?”
He shook his head told me he would see me at school on Monday and left.
It wasn’t until I saw him leave that I noticed he had arrived with Amber in her cherry red corvette, lucky girl. I had a car but mine was a black BMW that was in the shop. I liked it okay just I wanted a fancier car. Is that a problem?
I went back inside got on my laptop and eventually I fell asleep

Into the deepest dream
I was running, running away from Amber who had gone after me saying she knows about me and Drake.
We were in the school hallways I was running away from amber and toward Drake.
I ran to him.
He had his arms out waiting for me to come into them.
I ran to him but when I got to him I fell through him like I was a ghost.
Drake started calling someone’s name but it wasn’t mine he was calling Amber.
“Amber come toward me” he shouted.
Amber ran up to him and hugged him. But over his shoulder she smiled at me. Taunting me that she had won Drakes heart.
“Alice?” the name interrupted my dream I could see Drake and Amber walking away and leaving me on the hallways ground
“Alice!” I heard the name more frantic this time.
“Alice wake up! Alice come back darling! Wake up…..


I woke up to someone shaking my shoulders.
For a second I couldn’t see, my vision was blurry
But when I came to I could tell it was my mom she was leaning over me on the couch shaking me telling me to wake up.
“Mom I’m awake” I said pushing her off of my shoulders
“Honey you scared me half to death because you wouldn’t answer the first time I thought you had passed out or were hurt” she said sitting down on the couch next to me.
“Well now that you know I’m save I’m going to fix dinner ok? And you’re going to stay here calming yourself down.” I got up of the couch and went into the small kitchen got some frozen meals out of the freezer. We’re not eating well tonight exspesualy after what my mom just went through.
I put the meals in the microwave and went back to my mom who sitting on the couch TRYING to calm herself down.
I sat down next to and started patting her back
“Mom relax I was only sleeping I was having a dream that was hard to wake up to”
“”I know it’s just that you mean everything to me I can’t bear to lose you” she said in a whimpered tone
“Mom you have no reason to worry that I can get hurt”
“I know I don’t it’s just….
Your father died in a fire while I was pregnant with you. He had fallen asleep smocking cigerate it caught on to the paper he was reading. Ever since then before I had you I swore never to let that happen so when I saw you asleep I thought about the fire and it scared me” reaching for a tissue she blew
her nose and started to cry.
For a second I felt like crying I wanted to curl up in a ball and cry my eyes out my mom has never talked about my dad before it hurt me a lot.
“Mom how come you never told me about dad before?”
“I thought you might have thought it was his fault and get mad at him or even me and I thought it was the best thing for you please honey don’t blame him I’m so sorry”
I heard the microwave beep so I got up put a tray out in front of my mom and went to go get the meals out of the microwave. When I came back to give mom her dinner she wasn’t sitting on the couch where I had left her so I went into her room there she was on her bed looking threw an old box of pictures. She had one picture in one hand and the other hand was covering her heart. Apparently the pictures were of my dad.
“Mom dinner is ready if you want it it’s on the tray in the living room” mom didn’t answer she was too busy thinking so I decided not to bother her so I left and went across to my room.
I fell on to the bed and fell into deep sleep almost immediately

I woke to a sound of something hitting my window I looked over at my clock it was almost 3 in the morning. I thought the noise was just a branch from the wind hitting my window.
So I closed my eyes and tried to go back to sleep.
Then I heard it again this time with a voice.
“Alice wake up and let me in”
I got out of bed turned on my desk lamp and looked out the window.
There waiting outside the window was Sam.
I slowly opened my window and helped Sam crawl inside.
“What are you doing here?” I whispered as I shut the door to my room.
“You know how you said that Drake was talking to you because Amber told him to?”
Sam must be nuts because she could have told me this on Saturday or even on Monday before school.
“Yes and I don’t understand why this couldn’t have waited till school”
“I know but Amber’s fixing to revive it and make it looked like you freaked out when you saw Drake!” Sam looked like she was happy that she knew about this
WAIT!
How did she know about this?
“Sam how did you find out about this?” I asked her uneasily.
“Oh um I heard her talking to her friends on the phone about what she was going to do”
Sam started making her way back out the window
“Sam, couldn’t this have waited?” I asked walking up to the window she was already halfway through my lawn getting ready to leave.
“Nope because I also herd from Drake himself that he was going to ask you out”
And with that she turned and ran the direction of her street.
As I closed the window behind her I could not believe the last thing she had said.
Drake was going to ask me out! I’m so happy but first I have to take care of this Amber thing first.
BUT
The one thing about this whole thing that I don’t get why would Drake tell Sam that he was going to ask me out that has no sense but that will have to wait for right now I talk to Sam fix the thing with Amber tomorrow.

I woke up in the morning to silence nothing but silence I got up showered and put on jeans and tee-shirt.
We live in Florida the weather is mostly hot.
Then I went into my mom’s room to see if she was awake.
But she wasn’t there. So I went into the kitchen and she wasn’t there either. I looked in the garage everywhere but she was nowhere to be found.
Then I relized that her car wasn’t in the car she must have left to go to the store she does that every Saturday.
Now all I know about Amber’s house is that she lives somewhere near my street so when I left the house to go in search for Amber’s I coulsd easily tell which street she lives on.
Rose street.
She lives on Rose street the richest street in the state of Florida.
Now if that part was easy the hard part is finding her exact house maybe I could wait to see if she would come outside to get the mail.
That’s ridicules she probably has a maid get the mail for them. But who would have thought that at 10:30 Mr. States the guy and Amber’s father who own Trace High School would come out and get the paper.
When I saw him I ran down to his part of the street and walked up to him like I was one of Amber’s old friends.
“Hi I Mr. States it’s so good to see you” I said to him in a polite way.
Mr. States looked old and tired he had his gray and white hair and his gray rope on with his gray house shoes. He was a bleak person.
“Why is it Alice how are you?” he had the paper in one hand and was shaking mine in the other.
“I’m great I just wanted to say hi to Amber mind if you can tell her I’m here and send her outside?
He nodded and told me to wait out in the yard.
Amber’s house was big and it was red brick her patio out front had bushes and shrubs and one palm tree in the front.
Then I herd the grand white door slam I turned around to see Amber in a white silk blouse with desiner jeans and white high heeled boots.
“And would you care to explain why the hell you’re at the front of my house?’
She pursed her plump lips and waited for me to answer.
“Amber I know we don’t get along that well but do you really think that posting that video is necessary?”
I turned to her to look her straight in the eye.
Then she caved.
“Look, we don’t get along and that’s just how it’s supposed to work ok so if I were you I would just get out of my yard walk your little sorry and poor but to where it came from!” she smirked her evil smile went back inside and slamed the door.
I had no idea it could go that bad.
As I walked home I rembered that I needed to go see Sam to ask her about wy Drake told her About him asking me out.
I decided that could wait till Monday I wanted to see if Drake would still like Amber after he found out that she’s messin with the video.

When I got home mom was still not there.
Strange, so I went to my room pulled out a book and read until I heard the garage door open.
I opened the door that lead to the garage to find my mother trying to get out of her car and unbuckle the seat belt. My mom had been drinking. She said she would stop last year and hadn’t had a whiff of alcohol since. Now she’s starting all over again.
I helped her out of the car and into the kitchen sat her down and got her a glass of water.
When she finished that I lead her to the bedroom to let her sober up.
Gosh how could she do this to me she knows how much I want her to stop but drinking out of no where? Something is going on something I don’t even want to know about. And I left it at that.

When Monday came around it was just a blur of the weekend. Mom slept all night the day she came home drunk. When she woke up the next morning she was real sick it was unusual for a hangover but she said it was for her. I awoke on Monday morning to find my mom lying in her bed crying I went to lay down next to her she told me she was okay but to just get ready for school so I did I left the house with my mother still in bed crying. When I walked down to the end of my street Sam was already waiting for me.
“Hi” I said right after I said it Sam had known right away that something was up.
“Ok tell me what is going on?”
I told her, I told her everything about visiting with Amber to my mom getting drunk to the hangover.
Just then I relized I had wanted to talk to Sam about the Drake thing.
As we walked down to the bus stop at the end of Sam’s street I asked her.
“Sam how come Drake told you he was going to ask me out?”
As I said this I could see a smile coming on to her lips.
“Alice were you worrying about this the whole weekend?”
Actually no I hadn’t I was so busy trying to help my mom that it had escaped from my mind.
“No I was just wondering”
“Well picky, picky Alice he was asking me for advice on where he thought you might like to go”
That was it I thought it was something like more guess not we didn’t say anything till we got to school.

When we got their I saw drake in the hallway waiting for me at my locker.
“Hi” I said and started turning my lock to undo the code.
“So how was your weekend?”
He turned and he was so close to me. I wanted to throw my arms around him and kiss him on those plump lips.
I turned and we were even closer than before.
“It was really um weird” I said and I could feel his breathing on my face.
Then he slowly put his arm around me we were so close now his lips were almost touching mine.
My eyes wondered down to his cute grey and red tee and his almost like skateboard shorts with the plaid designee and his Rhino shoes.
“Look at me please”
I looked up to his eyes found them wondering all over my face.
“Ever since I saw you 2 years ago in high school, I wanted you I needed you, I forgot about Amber but when she told me to go and talk to you last Friday I was scared out of my wits and now I’m here face to face with you”
Then he slowly but stilly moved his lips closer and closer to mine, until finally our lips met and we were kissing in front of everyone. But as I said why does Amber States have to ruin it all.
“Well, well, well if it isn’t the old shit bag that showed up at my house to confront me” Amber was wearing her juicy couture purple tank top and skinny jeans, Gucci black high heeled boots and handbag.
Then I did something that I never did before, I stood up for myself.
As I stopped kissing Drake and turned away from him I thought about what I was going to say.
“Wow Amber, who knew you, could be such a Bitch”
I was even surprised by what I said drake smiled and started laughing.
But Amber wasn’t even stunned. Everyone had no idea what was going on no one had paied attention to what I had said.
But as Amber slowly stomped toward me a crowd had already started to watch what happened.
“How dare you call me a bitch when you’re the one that was macking all over my boyfriend?”
There was a slight noise in the crowd some even said burn.
“Amber we broke up last week”
I had totally forgot that Drake was even her but when he said something I was stunned.
“No we didn’t we just had a little fight” she smiled and raised her hand to the crowed had started talking about what Drake had said.
“Amber no matter what you say or how you say it you and me are done over”
Then Drake turned to me and said he was going to class, Amber just stood their shocked when Drake had left. “Oh my gosh did he just dump ME!” there is no possible way, no one ever dumps Amber States.” I walked up to Amber smiled at her as the bell rang saying that the start of first period had started. I smiled and walked away so did everyone else.
She was left their alone.

As I walked to English I stopped by the office and got my hall pass she said that I was ok that she saw the standoff between me Amber she thought that Amber had threatened me. I just said ok and headed off to class. But as soon as I sat down the buzzer went off saying it was time for me to show up at the office right away. I laughed and got up and went back to see Sam and her mother. The both looked sad real sad.
“Um what is going on?”
Sam’s face looked flush and I knew she had been crying.
Something strange and weird.
Sam looked me in the eyes.
“I’m so sorry” she said and hugged me again.
“What is going on why the heck are you here in the office with Ms. Parker.” I waved to her then looked back at Sam
“Oh um your mom she is in the hospital”
As soon as she had said the word I saw all black around me and I felt myself falling and the wham I hit the ground but as soon as I felt the hit my eyes cleared up it was blurry for a minute then I saw Sam leaning over me her hand on the part where my head had hit. But I thought i had hit the ground and woke up turns out I had passed when I hit and they took me to Ms. Parker’s car.
Then I heard the car stop and the engine off.
“Where am I?” I asked
“You are at the hospital we are going to see your mother”
By the time she had said it I was already out of her car door and running toward the hospital.
By the time Sam came to thr front desk I was already in my mother’s room looking down at her.
“Mom what the hell is going on?” she sat up and saw me she had also been crying I went up to her and stroked her hair.
Then Sam came in saw us and backed up and left.
Then a nurse walked in and saw me next to my mom.
Her long brown hair had been covering her eyes so I could not tell what she looked like.
“What happened to my mom?” I asked.
She looked up and saw me looked at the water bags on the rack.
“she tried to kill herself” she said this in a boring way.
“Mom what the hell?”
I looked at her and she had started crying again.
“I had to get away from him that man, that horrible man”
I looked her like she was nuts then looked at the nurse she was writing something on the clipboard.
She looked up and saw me with tears in my eyes.
“she is also three weeks pregnant” then the nurse left and Sam came in.
She sat down and closed her eyes.
“Mom what man?”
She moved her head toward me.
“The man drugged me and hurt me but before that we had been going out we had it and that is how I got pregnant but the day I came home I was not drunk I was drugged to act drunk. I wanted to leave go to heaven but when I stabbed myself in the wrong place where the baby was I called the cops they came to me and did massage surgery. Honey you have a sister.” And right then and there she passes out. I looked at Sam and back at my mom. This weak has been the weirdest yet of the year.
Then there was a knock and Drake walked in. Sam and her mom immediately got up and backed out of the room again.
“How did Sam find out before me?”
“All I heard is that she was in the office, when the phone call came from the hospital”
Then he wrapped his arms around me and hugged me close.
“Hey, everything is going to be all right ok?” he looked down at me and smiled his wonderful smile.
I heard a noise as my mom came to. Drake sat down and I went to stand by the bed.
“Mom, wy did u not tell me any of this?”
She looked me in the eyes and grabbed my hand.I looked her in the eyes and a tear rolled down my cheek."I thought you would hate me. OH honey! please so not hate me!" she yelled. "Mom, I would never hate you, there is nothing on this earth that would make me hate you, I love you too much." Drake stood up and came toward me, as he wrapped his arm around me my mother passed out once more. I turned toward Drake and leaned into him."OH, Drake! What do I do?" I looked up at him, his eyes were on the door. "Drake what are you looking at?" I asked. "What?" he said looking back at me. "Oh um.... Look Alice I really have no idea what you want me to do." Then he walked out. I stood there, just looking around. What had just happened? Did he just leave or was it what I said?
I stepped out of the room and walked toward the front desk. Sam and her mother were sitting in the waiting for me. "How did it go?" Sam immediatly asked when I sat down next to her. "Sam, I am going to have a baby sister" I said, then I dropped my face into my hands and cried. I wished Drake was here I had no idea if he left or not. Then again how did he know about what happened? Mabye he found out from the other kids. Who knows, I got up and walked into my mothers room. I sat there for an hour waiting for her to awake. She didn't. I got up and took a cab home, knowing that Sam and her mom had left. I slept for twelve hours, I missed school for a month, my mom came home on the fourth week, but she was still in pain.
Her stomach had gotten bigger from the baby that was growing inside. It was hard to imagine having a liitle sister. All my life I was the only child, all that was going to change in November.

It was around 2:30, on a cold November night, when I had heard a scream in my mom's room. I ran out of my room and went across the hall to see my mom packing a large red suitcase.
"Honey, go put the car seat in the car, and then take me to a hospital" she looked up and saw my stricken face. "I'm going into labor, now go!"
I ran out of the room and grabbed the already unpacked carseat, my bae feat almost slipping on the slick floor. After I got the carseat in, I looked at my ugly old nightgown and i guessed my hair was just as bad.I had no time to change, instead I grabbed the phone off the hook and dialed the number that I knew by heart.
"Sam!" I scame into the ohone when she answerd. "What are you doin calling at this hour?" her voice sounded tired and sleepy. "Sam, get up and get to the hospital, my mom's having the baby!" it wasn't till then that I relaized that I was sorta happy.
After we agreed that she would be there around 4:00 o'clock, when mom came around I put the bag in the trunck of my mom's car, as she got into the passenger side.
When we arrived at the hospital I told the front desk and they immediatly took her back I fallowed, when they braught her into the room, her water broke. I Relized that it was not going to be long before I would have a baby sister or brother. I sat in the corner of the hospital, as the doctors got her ready for birth. I stood up and went into the waithing room, when I looked up Sam sat there reading a Fashion magazine.
"How is she doing?"
